LeakFilm controllers and sensors are designed for installation and use in ordinary
areas only. Do not install the controllers and the sensors in hazardous areas.
Installation must be in accordance with the recognized standards of the
appropriate authority in the country concerned.
Access to the terminal block for wiring and switches for conguration of the
controller, when carrying out any work, must only be conducted by trained
personnel.
Before carrying out any work ensure local regulations and site procedures
are followed. Appropriate standards must be followed to maintain the overall
certications.
Never attempt to open a plastic enclosure or connector or replace/ret the wire of
the sensor while power is still applied to the controller.
LeakFilm controllers must be earthed/grounded for electrical safety and to limit the
effects of radio frequency interference. Earth/ground points are provided “F.G.” or
“SHIELD” terminal of the controllers.
Ensure that all screens/instrument earth/clean earth wiring is earthed/grounded
at a single point (either at the controller or master controller - BUT NOT BOTH)
to prevent false readings or alarms that may occur due to potential earth/ground
loops.
The plastic enclosure of the controllers is a potential electrostatic charging
hazard. Avoid any conditions that could result in the controllers becoming
electrostatically charged.
Take care when handling LeakFilm sensors as they may be damaged by sharp
tools.
LeakFilm controllers should be handled with care to avoid mechanical shock and
impact.
Do not expose to temperatures, humidity and other conditions beyond the storage
and operating ranges.
LeakFilm controllers must have a suitably rated fuse.
LeakFilm controllers and sensors should be installed in a location free from dust,
direct sunlight, temperature extreme, strong magnetic eld and heavy vibration.

4. Introduction
LeakFilm MC is a master controller to monitor the status of controllers connected to its
communication line. LeakFilm Pro, 5 and HC controllers can be connected to the
LeakFilm MC.
The controller features a buzzer, and 9 push buttons UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT, ENTER,
MENU, RESET, ESC, SILENT for conguration. 4 LEDs indicate the status of fault, leak,
communication error and power and a 20x4 character LCD gives status indication and
conguration.
The master controller also provides 3 relays (fault, leak and communication error) for
controlling external equipment such as alarms, sirens, valves or switches.
LeakFilm MC has been designed to be mounted through 4 mounting holes, so that the user
can easily install the controller on a wall or in the interior of an electrical control panel.
Caution: LeakFilm Mini cannot be connected to LeakFilm MC because it does not
have the appropriate communication feature. LeakFilm 5 should be used instead
to connect to LeakFilm MC.

4.1 Package Contents
LeakFilm MC is supplied with pre-congured and 100% tested controller, manual CD-ROM
and package box as shown in below.
The CD-ROM should run automatically when put into a computer CD-ROM player. If the
CD-ROM does not start, click on ‘My Computer’, locate the CD-ROM and double click the le
‘start.exe’.

5. Installation
5.1 Mounting and Location
LeakFilm MC has been designed to be mounted through 4 mounting holes, so that the user
can easily install the controller on a wall or in the interior of an electrical control panel easily.
The following points should be noted when locating the controllers.
• When locating the controllers, consider the possible damage caused by natural events
e.g. rain or ooding. LeakFilm MC provides only IP43, limited water proof feature.
• Consider ease of access to the controller for repair and maintenance.
• Avoid any location mentioned in the above warnings.
See the installation drawing at the end of this manual for mechanical dimensions.

LeakFilm MC (master controller) can be connected to LeakFilm Pro, 5 and HC (slave
controllers) using RS-485 as shown in the above diagram. For LeakFilm Pro or HC
controllers, up to 200 units can be connected to the master controller while LeakFilm 5
is limited to 15 units. When the slave controllers communicate with the master controller,
each slave controller should have a unique ID. See the manual of each slave controller for
instructions on how to set the communication ID.
Caution: Each slave controller connected to LeakFilm MC should have a unique
communication ID, otherwise incorrect data can be transmitted to the master
controller.
Once the LeakFilm MC turns on, it starts to scan all IDs to check the slave controllers
connected to it. The user can determine the maximum ID number (MaxMD) of slave
controllers which is used for scanning from 1 to MaxMD. The acceptable range is 1 to 200
and the default value is 200. See “6.1 Electrical connections” for instructions on how to set
MaxMD.
When you use LeakFilm 5 together with LeakFilm Pro & HC, set the ID of LeakFilm 5
between 1 and 15 rst and then set the IDs for LeakFilm Pro and HC later to the rest of the
numbers, because LeakFilm 5 ID can be set only from 1 to 15 while LeakFilm Pro & HC can
be set from 1 to 200.
It takes around 20-25ms for the master controller to scan 1 slave controller, so it requires
at least 5 seconds (cycle time) to scan 200 slave controllers. If the cycle time is too long for
the application, the number of slave controllers connected to the master controller should
be limited. For example if the cycle time needs to be less than 1 second, a maximum of 40
slave controllers should be connected to one master controller.
Caution: Each slave controller connected to LeakFilm MC should have a unique
communication ID, otherwise incorrect data can be transmitted to the master
controller.
Caution: The number of slave controllers connected to the master controller should
be limited based on the required cycle time.

5.3 LeakFilm MC with Host System
LeakFilm MC can also be connected to a host system as shown in the below diagram. Up
to 32 LeakFilm MC controllers can be connected to a host system using RS-485 MODBUS
communication. See “10. MODBUS Register Map” for detail.
A communication ID is required for LeakFilm MC to communicate with the host system.
The acceptable range of the ID is from 1 to 32 and the default value is 1. The ID of each
master controller should be unique otherwise it cannot communicate with the host system
properly due to ID conict. See “6.1 Terminal connections” for instructions on how to set the
communication ID.

Caution: Caution: Honeywell Analytics does not provide any software tool to log
the data from LeakFilm MC. The user should create a tool based on the MODBUS
register map or should purchase a commercial tool suitable for the purpose.
Caution: Each master controller connected to the host system should have a unique
communication ID, otherwise incorrect data can be transmitted to the host system.

AC mains voltage supply cables should meet local and national regulations. LeakFilm MC
power supplies will accept wire sizes in the range 0.5 – 6 mm2(solid core), 0.5 – 4 mm2
(stranded core), or 22 – 12 AWG. Wire temperature ratings should be minimum 80 °C and
wires should be tightened to 11.9lb-in torque.
For terminals (CON16, J11, J7, J8, J2, J3, J4 and J5), LeakFilm MC will accept wire size in
the range 0.13 ~ 2.0 mm2(stranded) or 26 – 14 AWG. Wire temperature ratings should be
minimum 80 °C and wires should be tightened to 3.5lb-in torque.

The communication ID of LeakFilm MC is set by SW3 dip switch. See in the below table how
to set the ID using the SW3 dip switch.

User can set MaxMD using the SW4 dip switch as shown in the below table. If MaxMD is
7, LeakFilm MC scans from 1 to 7 only. In this case any controller with an ID of more than
7 will not be scanned, so it will not be monitored by the LeakFilm MC. To avoid missing any
controllers that are connected to the LeakFilm MC, leave MaxMD set to the default value
of 200.

6.2 Power on (Commissioning)
Caution: The following procedure should be followed carefully and only performed
by suitably trained personnel
1. Check that all electrical connections are terminated correctly as per the wiring diagram.
2. Switch on the power supply to the controller.
3. Using a Digital Multi Meter (DMM), check the supply voltage of power+ and power- at
CON16. The measured voltage should be in the range of 24VDC±5%.
4. Switch off and on again.
5. The LCD displays the software version, communication ID and MaxMD, and the power
light turns on.
6. LeakFilm MC enters normal monitoring mode.

The user can set the ID of LeakFilm MC using the SW3 dip switch on the PCB and MaxMD
using the SW4 dip switch. See “6.1 Terminal connections” for details.
Caution: The ID of LeakFilm MC should be unique to communicate with a host
system, otherwise it cannot communicate properly due to ID conict.
Caution: MaxMD does not have to be adjusted by the user. Just check that the

status. The master controller provides three options.
- Switch Off: Once an alarm occurs, the user can mute
the buzzer using the “SILENT” button.
- Auto Off: User cannot mute the buzzer. The buzzer
will stop only when the alarm is removed.
- Mute: The buzzer is not activated in alarm status.
Select an option by moving “→” cursor using the “UP”
and “DOWN” buttons and exit using the “ESC” button.
