YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
These instructions are intended to provide you
with the information you need to use the product
and to avoid such hazards. When using electrical
appliances, basic precautions should always be
followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock,
and injury to persons, including the following:
1. Read all instructions before using this heater.
2. This heater is hot when in use. To avoid burns,
do not let bare skin touch hot surfaces. If,
provided, use handle when moving this heater.
Keep combustible materials, such as furniture,
pillows, bedding, papers, clothes, and curtains
at least 3 feet (0.9 m) from the front of the
heater and keep them away from the sides and
rear.
3. Extreme caution is necessary when any heater
is used by or near children or invalids, and
whenever the heater is left operating and
unattended.
4. Always unplug heater when not in use.
5. Do not operate any heater with a damaged
cord or plug or after the heater malfunctions,
has been dropped or damaged in any manner.
Return heater to authorized service facility
for examination, electrical or mechanical
adjustment, or repair.
6. Do not use outdoors.
7. This heater is not intended for use in
bathrooms, laundry areas and similar indoor
locations. Never locate heater where it may fall
into a bathtub or other water container.
8. Do not run cord under carpeting. Do not cover
cord with throw rugs, runners, or similar
coverings. Arrange cord away from traffic area
where it will not be tripped over.
9. To disconnect the heater, first turn off the
product, then grip the plug and pull it from the
wall outlet. Never pull by the cord.
10. Warning - Connect to properly grounded
outlets only. This heater is for use on 120 volts.
This appliance has a grounded plug as shown
in Fig. 1. An adapter is available at retail (not
included) for connecting three-blade grounding-
type plugs to two-slot receptacles. The green
grounding lug extending from the adapter must
be connected to a permanent ground such as
a properly grounded outlet box. The adapter
should not be used if a three-slot grounded
receptacle is available.
11. Do not insert or allow foreign objects to enter
any ventilation or exhaust opening as this may
cause an electric shock or fire, or damage the
heater.
12. To prevent a possible fire, do not block air
intakes or exhaust in any manner. Do not use
on soft surfaces, like a bed, or where openings
may become blocked.
13. A heater has hot and arcing or sparking parts

HZ-614, HZ-615, & HZ-617 SERIES OPERATION
14. Use this heater only as described in this
manual. Any other use not recommended by the
manufacturer may cause fire, electric shock, or
injury to persons.
15. Avoid the use of an extension cord because the
extension cord may overheat and cause a risk
of fire. However, if you have to use an extension
cord, the cord shall be No. 14 AWG minimum
size and rated not less than 1875 watts. The
extension cord shall be a three wire cord with a
grounding-type cord and plug connector.
16. This heater draws 12.5 amps during operation.
To prevent overloading a circuit, do not plug
the heater into a circuit that already has other
appliances working.
17. It is normal for the plug to feel warm to the
touch; however, a loose fit between the
AC outlet (receptacle) and plug may cause
overheating and distortion of the plug. Contact
a qualified electrician to replace loose or worn
outlets.
18. Never tamper with this product or attempt to fix
it. Any tampering with, or modification of this
product can result in serious injury, death, fire
or risk of electric shock. Do not open, no user
serviceable parts inside.
19. Do not remove product labels that contain
warnings or safety instruction.
20. The output of this heater may vary and its
temperature may become intense enough
to burn exposed skin. Use of this heater is
not recommended for persons with reduced
sensitivity to heat or an inability to react to avoid
burns.
21. Caution - Before cleaning, or storage, or when
not in use, turn the fan to the off position and
unplug the heater from the electrical outlet and
allow it to cool.
22. Caution - place the heater on a firm, level open
surface free from obstructions and at least
3 feet (0.9m) away from any combustaible
materials. DO NOT use on an unstable surface
such as bedding or deep carpeting. Be sure
the heater is not in a position where it may
be tripped over by small children or pets. The
heater’s rubber feet will hold it firmly in position.
23. Caution - if your home has aluminum wiring
have a licensed electrician check your
receptacle’s connections. When using any 1500
watt heater, aluminum wire connections can
cause a safety issue.

SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS
• Place the heater on a firm, level surface away from any
combustible material.
• With Power Knob in the OFF position, plug the heater into a
grounded outlet.
• Turn the Thermostat Knob fully clockwise to the high setting.
• To turn the heater on, turn the Power Knob clockwise to the ON
position. (Fig. 2).
• If you want to use the Quick Heat® feature, turn the Power Knob to
the Quick Heat® Setting.
• When the room reaches a comfortable temperature, slowly turn the thermostat control counter-
clockwise until the heater goes off. This is the point at which the thermostat setting equals the
room temperature. If left at this setting, the thermostat will automatically turn the heater on and off to
maintain the selected temperature.

Quick Heat® will propel a steady blast of warm air out of your baseboard. This can help heat your room
more quickly. You will hear a fan operating in this mode. You can also turn the Quick Heat® setting off
and the heater will operate silently.
QUICK HEAT® FEATURE
This heater is equipped with several devices and features for added
protection.
• A high temperature safety control prevents overheating
(Hi Limit).
• A back-up thermal circuit breaker that will permanently shut down
the heater should it operate at higher than normal temperatures
(HZ-614, HZ-615, HZ-617 and HZ-817 only).
• A SafeGuard™ Alert Heat Indicator Badge that indicates the grille is
hot and should not be touched - turns from black to red (HZ-614C,
HZ-617, HZ-617C and HZ-817 only).
• Tip-over switch feature - The HZ-817 SERIES ONLY is equipped
with a tip-over switch that disables the heater if it is tipped over.
To restore power to the heater, stand the heater up properly and
press the power button.
• A three-prong grounded plug.
• This heater was created using a high quality safety plastic.
SAFETY FEATURES
• Place the heater on a firm, level, open surface free from
obstructions and at least 3 feet (0.9 m) away from any
combustible materials.
• Never leave an operating unit unattended.
• Plug the heater into an electrical wall outlet.
• Touch the Power Button to turn the heater on.
The power indicator light will illuminate. (Fig. 3)
• To save up to 35% in energy bills, turn the Energy Smart™
knob to your desired temperature. There are four distinct
settings of 65°F/18°C, 70°F/ 21°C, 75°F/23°C, and
80°F/26°C. The Energy Smart™ heater will automatically
select the appropriate power level to best accommodate
your desired temperature. As the air temperature in
the room approaches the set temp, the heater will
automatically lower the power consumption and provide
consistent warmth without wasting energy.
• The illuminated LED lights will indicate what the current room temperature is.
• The LOW setting ( ) is designed to operate only if the temperature is below 55°F (12°C). If the room
temperature is above 55°F (12°C), the heater will remain OFF until the temperature drops below this
level. If you want the heater to operate when the room is above 55°F (12°C), then move the Thermostat
to a higher setting.
• To override the Energy Smart™ feature and produce maximum heat, turn the knob fully clockwise to
HIGH ( ). This will produce 1500W of heat at all times.

CONSUMER RELATIONS
If your heater shuts off unexpectedly or fails to operate, one of your heater’s safety features may have
been activated to prevent overheating.
• Be sure the power cord is plugged into a working electrical outlet.
• Check for any obstructions. If you find one, turn the heater OFF and unplug it.
• Wait at least 10 minutes to allow the heater to cool completely before removing any obstruction.
When done, plug in the heater and follow the OPERATION instructions.

CLEANING AND STORAGE
We recommend that the heater be cleaned at least once a month and before off-season storage.
• Turn the heater OFF and unplug it. Allow it to cool.
• Use a dry cloth only to clean the external surfaces of the heater. DO NOT USE WATER, WAX, POLISH
OR ANY CHEMICAL SOLUTION.
• Clean your heater using the above-mentioned steps, then pack the heater in its original container and
store it in a cool dry place.
• This heater does not disassemble.

2. Le radiateur devient chaud à l’emploi. Ne

Gardez les matières combustibles – meubles,
oreillers, literie, papiers, vêtements et rideaux –
à au moins 0,9 m (3 pi) de l’avant du radiateur
et éloignez-les des côtés et de l’arrière.
3. Redoubler de prudence lorsqu’un radiateur
est employé par des enfants, des personnes
handicapées ou en leur présence, ainsi que
lorsqu’il fonctionne sans surveillance.
4. Débranchez-le entre utilisations.
5. N’employez pas le radiateur si sa fiche ou bien
son cordon est abîmé, s’il a mal fonctionné, a
été échappé ou endommagé de quelque façon.
Retourner le radiateur au centre de service
après-vente agréé pour fins de vérification afin
de lui faire subir les réparations et réglages
électriques ou mécaniques requis.
6. Ne vous en servez pas à l’extérieur.
7. Ce radiateur n’est pas destiné aux salles de
bains, buanderies, ou autres lieux de ce genre.
Ne le posez jamais au-dessus d’une baignoire ou
d’une cuve d’eau dans laquelle il puisse tomber.
8. N’acheminez pas le cordon sous les tapis. Ne
le recouvrez pas d’entre-portes, de carpettes,
ou autres. Éloignez-le des passages où il serait
susceptible de faire trébucher.
9. Éteignez le radiateur pour le débrancher puis
tenez la fiche entre le pouce et l’index pour la
sortir de la prise de courant. Ne tirez pas sur le
cordon.
10. Avertissement - Ne branchez le radiateur que
sur une prise de courant à contact de mise à la
terre. Destiné au branchement sur 120 volts, il
comporte une fiche tripolaire, comme celle de
la fig. 1. Un adaptateur (non inclus) disponible
au détail permet de connecter les fiches à trois
broches sur prises à deux trous. L’ergot vert
en saillie de l’adaptateur doit être connecté à
une mise à la terre permanente, un coffret de
prise à la terre, par exemple. Un adaptateur ne
doit jamais servir quand une prise de courant
tripolaire est disponible.
11. Veillez à ce qu’aucun corps étranger ne pénètre
dans les prises d’air ou d’évacuation, choc
électrique, incendie ou dégâts pourraient en
résulter.
12. Pour éviter tout risque d’incendie, ne bouchez
pas les prises d’air ou d’évacuation. Ne faites
jamais fonctionner le radiateur sur une surface
molle – un lit, par exemple – où ses orifices
risquent d’être obstrués.

14. N’employez le radiateur que conformément
aux instructions décrites dans ce manuel. Toute
utilisation non recommandée par le fabricant
pourrait provoquer un incendie, un choc
électrique ou des blessures corporelles.
15. Évitez de vous servir d’un cordon prolongateur,
il pourrait surchauffer et causer un incendie.
Si vous ne pouvez pas faire autrement, utilisez
une rallonge de calibre 14 AWG minimum,
dont la puissance soit d’au moins 1 875 watts.
Choisissez une rallonge trifilaire pourvue d’une
fiche à mise à la terre de sécurité.
16. Le radiateur consomme 12,5 ampères. Afin de
ne pas surcharger le circuit, ne branchez pas
le radiateur sur un circuit qui alimente d’autres
appareils.
17. Il est normal que la fiche soit chaude au
toucher, mais trop de jeu quand vous insérez
la fiche dans la prise de courant alternatif peut
entraîner la surchauffe et causer la déformation
de la fiche. Faites remplacer les prises de
courant usées sans délai, par un électricien.
18. N’altérez pas et n’essayez pas de réparer cet
appareil. Toute altération ou modification
pourrait entraîner blessures, mort ou incendie.
Risque de choc électrique. Ne l’ouvrez pas, il ne
contient pas de pièces que vous puissiez réparer.
19. N’enlevez en aucun cas les étiquettes
d’avertissement ou d’instructions de sécurité..
20. Le rendement de ce radiateur peut varier et
sa température être assez élevée pour brûler
la peau nue. L’emploi du radiateur peut être
préjudiciable pour les personnes dont la
sensibilité thermique est réduite ou qui sont
incapables de réagir pour éviter les brûlures.
21. Éteignez le radiateur et débranchez-le avant de
le nettoyer, de le remiser et lorsqu’il ne sert pas.
22. Posez le radiateur sur une surface rigide, plane,
stable, d’aplomb, exempte d’obstructions et à au
moins 0,9 m (3 pi) des matières combustibles.
NE le placez PAS sur une surface instable
– literie ou moquette épaisse, par exemple.
Assurez-vous qu’il ne puisse faire trébucher ni
les jeunes enfants ni les animaux de compagnie.
Ses patins de caoutchouc l’immobiliseront
fermement.

• Placer l’appareil de chauffage sur une surface dégagée, ferme et bien
horizontale, à l’écart de toute matière combustible.
• Après avoir placé le bouton d’alimentation à la position OFF, brancher
l’appareil dans une prise de courant mise à la terre.
• Tourner le bouton de commande du thermostat jusqu’au bout, dans le
sens horaire , pour le régler à la chaleur élevée.
• Pour mettre l’appareil en marche, tourner le bouton d’alimentation dans le
sens des aiguilles d’une montre jusqu’à la position ON (Fig. 2).
• Pour utiliser le mode Quick Heat®, régler le bouton d’alimentation à la
position Quick Heat®.
• Quand la pièce a atteint une température confortable, tourner lentement le bouton de commande du thermostat
dans le sens anti-horaire , jusqu’à ce que l’appareil s’arrête : c’est le point où le réglage du thermostat
équivaut à la température de la pièce. Si le réglage reste ainsi, le thermostat mettra en marche et arrêtera
automatiquement l’appareil de chauffage afin de maintenir la pièce à la température réglée.

• Poser le radiateur sur une surface dégagée, rigide, plane et
d’aplomb, sans obstructions et à au moins 0,9 m (3 pi) des
corps combustibles.
• Ne jamais laisser l’appareil sans surveillance quant il
fonctionne.
• Le brancher sur une prise de courant.
• Presser la touche d’alimentation pour le mettre en marche. Le
voyant d’alimentation luira. (Fig. 3)
• Pour économiser jusqu’à 35 % sur les factures d’énergie,
mettre le bouton Energy SmartMC à la température désirée.
Quatre réglages sont prévus : 18 °C/65 °F, 21 °C/70 °F,
23 °C/75 °F et 26 °C/80 °F. Le radiateur Energy SmartMC
choisit automatiquement l’allure appropriée selon le niveau de
confort sélectionné. Quand la température ambiante est proche
de la température choisie, le radiateur réduit automatiquement
la consommation de courant pour maintenir le niveau de confort sans gaspiller d’énergie.
• Les DEL indiquent la température de la pièce.
• quipé de la fonction « LOW », cet appareil se met automatiquement en marche si la température
baisse au-dessous de 12 °C / 55 °F, afin d’aider à empêcher la tuyauterie de geler et à éviter les
dommages causés par le gel.
• Pour annuler la fonction éconergétique Energy SmartMC et obtenir le dégagement de chaleur maximal,
tourner le bouton en sens horaire à « High » (haut). Le radiateur chauffera alors continuellement à
1500 watts.

Quick Heat® propulse un jet de chaleur. Ceci permet de chauffer plus rapidement une pièce. Quand ce mode est
utilisé, on peut entendre un ventilateur fonctionner. Lorsqu’on coupe le fonctionnement en mode Quick Heat®,
l’appareil de chauffage fonctionne silencieusement.
MODE QUICK HEAT®
L’appareil est équipé de plusieurs dispositifs de sécurité.
• Un dispositif de sécurité prévenant l’échauffement excessif de l’appareil
(dispositif de commande à maximum).
• Cet appareil de chauffage est aussi muni d’un coupe-circuit thermique qui
éteint l’appareil de chauffage de façon permanente si celui-ci se met à
fonctionner à des températures plus élevées que la normale
(HZ-614, HZ-615, HZ-617 et HZ-817 seulement).
• Un indicateur SafeGuardMC de chaleur intense qui indique quand la grille
est trop chaude pour être touchée - l’indicateur passe alors du noir au
rouge (HZ-614C, HZ-617, HZ-617C et HZ-817 seulement).
• Interrupteur de basculement – SEULS les modèles de la SÉRIE
HZ-817 comprennent un interrupteur qui éteint le radiateur en cas
de renversement. Pour remettre le radiateur sous tension, mettez-le
parfaitement d’aplomb puis pressez la touche d’alimentation.
• Une fiche mise à la terre à trois broches.
• L’appareil est fabriqué de plastique de sécurité de très haute qualité.

Si l’appareil arrête subitement de fonctionner ou ne se met pas en marche, il est possible que ce soit parce que l’un
des dispositifs de sécurité de l’appareil a été activé afin de prévenir un échauffement excessif.
• S’assurer de brancher le cordon d’alimentation dans une prise de courant fonctionnelle.
• Vérifier si un objet quelconque entre en contact avec l’appareil. Si c’est le cas, arrêter l’appareil (OFF) et le
débrancher.
• Laisser l’appareil refroidir complètement, puis enlever l’objet qui l’obstrue. Attendre au moins 10 minutes, puis
rebrancher l’appareil de chauffage et suivre les instructions de FONCTIONNEMENT.
DÉPANNAGE
NETTOYAGE ET ENTRETIEN
On recommande de nettoyer l’appareil de chauffage au moins une fois par mois et avant de le ranger, à la fin de
la saison.
• Régler l’appareil de chauffage à OFF, le débrancher et le laisser refroidir.
• Utiliser un linge sec pour nettoyer uniquement les surfaces extérieures de l’appareil. NE PAS UTILISER D’EAU, DE
CIRE, DE PRODUIT POUR POLIR NI AUCUNE SOLUTION CHIMIQUE.
• Nettoyer l’appareil de chauffage conformément aux directives, puis placer l’appareil dans sa boîte d’origine et le
ranger dans un endroit frais et sec.
• Cet appareil de chauffage ne peut être démonté.

réparation ou au remplacement d’un produit

ou déraisonnable, ni aux dégâts supplémentaires.
Les défaillances résultant de l’usure normale
ne sont pas considérées comme des vices de

à l’acheteur initial de ce produit, à compter de la
date de l’achat initial.
B. À sa discrétion, Kaz réparera ou remplacera ce
produit si l’on constate qu’il comporte un vice de
matière ou de main-d’œuvre.
C. Cette garantie ne couvre pas les dommages
découlant des tentatives de réparation non
autorisées ou de toute utilisation non conforme au
présent manuel.
D. Retourner tout produit défectueux à Kaz,
Incorporated, accompagné d’une brève description
du problème. Inclure une preuve d’achat et un
chèque ou un mandat de poste de 10,00 $US ou
de 15,50 $CAN pour les frais de manutention,
d’emballage de retour et d’expédition. Prière
d’indiquer nom, adresse et numéro de téléphone
durant la journée.
