About this document
This document is for operators and technicians working in the natural gas industry. This
document provides an overview of ERX350 and instructions to install ERX350. It also describes
how to connect to the instrument via MasterLink software, configure, calibrate pressure &
temperature and retrieve various types of stored data. In addition, this document provides
information on how to navigate through the Human Machine Interface (HMI) menus and
introduces the user to different communication mechanisms featured in this device.
The Honeywell ERX350 is a microprocessor-based, stand-alone, self-powered data recorder
that measures gas pressure(s), gas temperature, case temperature, and power supply voltages.
Sampled measurements, logged audit trail data, alarms entries, user change events, and
operating parameters are stored in non-volatile memory. The stored data may be retrieved
directly with a laptop computer, PC, mobile devices, or remotely via modem. ERX350 recorder is
capable of recording audit trail data into (up to five) independent loggers. Each of the loggers
can be configured for; number of items, logging interval and record size. Using the display and
keypad, the user can configure the recorder and perform various other activities. The ERX350
offers a large feature set along with a path forward to support new technologies.

1 About ERX350
The Honeywell ERX350 is a microprocessor-based, stand-alone, self-powered data
recorder that measures gas pressure(s), gas temperature, case temperature, and power
supply voltages. Sampled measurements, logged audit trail data, alarms entries, user

Note: Battery can optionally serve as back-up for external DC voltage.
1.1.3 Environmental
lAmbient Temperature Range:
l-40 °F to +158 °F (-40 °C to +70 °C).-without Modem
Note: If using an ERX350 device with a modem, it is recommended to consider the
operational temperature range of the modem. The temperature system will continue
providing accurate measurements even if the modem is unable to operate because
of environmental conditions.
l-13 °F to +158 °F (-25 °C to +70 °C) when used with Cloud Link 4G modem

1.2 Safety Instructions
ERX350 complies with the general safety standards and regulations. However, failure to operate ERX350
as per the safety instructions available in this document may lead to hazards.
ERX350 is approved for use in hazardous areas (Class I Division 1 or Class I Division 2). Different
versions of ERX350 are available depending on the operating conditions. The permitted operating
conditions are marked on each ERX350. Check the operating condition limits of ERX350 before installing.
You must be familiar with the currently applicable electrical installation standards and regulations before
installing and operating ERX350 in hazardous areas.
Warning: Denotes an explosion hazard. Ensure you follow all instructions described in the warning
notification.
To avoid explosion hazard, ensure to note the following:
lInstall ERX350 depending on the operating conditions permitted for that particular ERX350 unit.
lERX350 device for Class I Division 1 is intrinsically safe and must be connected to other circuits
as per the installation drawing specified on each ERX350.
lERX350 device for Class I Division 2 must be connected to other circuits as per the installation
drawing specified on each ERX350.
lSubstitution of components may impair suitability for use in a hazardous location.
Caution: The caution warns you of possible damage to property and provides instructions to avoid
damage to ERX350.
Honeywell recommends you to observe the warning information described in this document and other
generally applicable safety rules.
lNo warranty claims can be asserted if there is an unauthorized interference with the device.
lYou can use ERX350 in hazardous areas, under some permitted operating conditions. Ensure to
comply with the applicable laws and regulations, and company policies for the usage of
ERX350.
lInstallation and commission of ERX350 in hazardous areas must only be done by specially
trained and qualified staff. The device is designed in accordance with the IP 65 degree of
protection as per EN60529. The installation of the intrinsically safe circuits must comply with
the applicable local laws or regulations. Operate ERX350 only if the instrument is completely

lTo maintain acceptability of use in hazardous locations, replacement of ERX350 battery packs
must use replacement batteries supplied by Honeywell. For further information about changing
the ERX350 battery pack, refer to the section, “Installing or Replacing Battery”.
1.2.1 Things to Remember
1.2.1.1 Usage of ERX350 in Hazardous Areas
You can use ERX350 in hazardous areas, under some permitted operating conditions. Ensure to comply
with the applicable laws and regulations, and company policies for the usage of ERX350.
Installation and commission of ERX350 in hazardous areas must only be done by specially trained and
qualified staff. The device is designed in accordance with the IP 65 degree of protection as per EN60529.
The installation of the intrinsically safe circuits must comply with the applicable local laws or
regulations. Operate ERX350 only if the instrument is completely intact.
1.2.1.2 Service, Maintenance, and Troubleshooting ERX350
The service, maintenance and troubleshooting of ERX350 device operating in hazardous areas must be
performed only by specially trained and qualified staff.
To maintain acceptability of use in hazardous locationsreplacement of ERX350 battery packs must use
replacement batteries supplied by Honeywell. For further information about changing the ERX350 battery
pack, refer to the section, “Installing or Replacing Battery”.

1.3 Theory of Operation
This section provides information about the modes of operation of the instrument and the functions
performed in each of the modes. ERX350 has three operating modes. Each mode is well defined and
suited to a particular purpose.
The three operating modes are:
Sample Mode
HMI Mode
Serial Link Mode
1.3.1 Sample Mode
In Sample Mode, the instrument obtains, stores and compares pressure(s), temperature(s), and power
supply voltage readings with alarm limit set points. If a reading exceeds its alarm limit set points, the
instrument transmits a single pulse out the alarm channel and shows the ‘Alarm Bell’ icon on the LCD. If
the instrument is equipped with a modem and configured for Alarm Call-in, the ERX350 will dial a pre-
defined phone number or IP address, presumably to a host computer system waiting to receive such calls.

1.3.3 Serial Link Mode
To operate in Serial Link Mode, the ERX350 requires an IrDA cable & dongle, modem, or a Smart device
with Bluetooth, along with MasterLink R510+ software app. During Serial Link Mode, the, the ERX350
may be configured, calibrated, or download of various types of logged data i.e., Audit Trail logs, Event
logs, Alarm log.

The main interfaces of the ERX350 are:

1.4.1 IrDA Port
Connect the IrDA communication USB cable to ERX350 as shown in the image below. Connect the other
end of the cable to a USB port on the computer where MasterLink is installed. Second image shows PC
side of USB connector.

1.4.2 LCD
ERX350 provides a ten character, configurable, alphanumeric display with icons to show the status
information and alarm conditions. The display can be configured to on or off at different times of day.
Following is a display illustration, showing all segments ON.
The following table lists the icons on the display.
Icon Description
Heart Beat: Flashes every 3 seconds to indicate normal operation.
Lock: Indicates that the instrument is in a metrologically protected mode.
Unlock: Indicates that the instrument is not in a metrologically protected mode.
Battery: Indicates a low battery condition. Refer to the section Installing or replacing
battery. Battery alarm is also indicated by this icon
Alarm: Indicates one or more alarm conditions such as low pressure or high temperature
IrDA: Indicates that communication with the device via the front panel IR port is enabled.
Navigation key function indicator: As you navigate through the options in each operating
mode, this icon indicates the keys that are active for the selected option.
Pulse output channel indicator: Indicates which of the 4 pulse output channels are enabled,
and flashes when a pulse is transmitted.

Icon Description
Smile: Indicates the HMI is unlocked. The navigation keys are functional.
Star: The Star icon turns on during pressure and temperature measurement.
1.4.3 Keypad
The keypad is used for scrolling through the menu options. The following table lists the keys.
Icon Description
Use these keys for unlocking the keypad and activating the display. To unlock the
keypad, press and hold ESC and UP arrow at the same time until display text appears.
Up and Down Arrow Keys.
Navigate (scroll) Up or Down through the HMI menus Increase or decrease a digits
value during edit/entry modes.
Note: For convenience – the HMI main menus allow scrolling both forward and
backwards (reverse direction)
Left and Right Arrow Keys.
Use these keys for navigating to the next and/or previous digit. Use these keys to move
the cursor one character at a time, in forward or backward directions.
OK (Enter) Key. Used to accept the user’s input.
Use this key to access the main menu or display the submenu of the current menu. It is
also used for accepting an input value.
ESCAPE (Exit) Key.
Use this key to display the Home screen, cancel an entry, or go back to the previous
menu.
Note: Pressing the ESC key repeatedly brings user back to highest (starting pint) of
the HMI main menu screen – but it cannot completely exit the HMI.

To conserve battery power, after each processing cycle the ERX350 keypad is locked, if there is no input
received within the time out period (1 to 10 minutes).
