9–GB Disk Drive
User Notes
Refer to your workstation owner’s guide or your disk drive installation
guide for detailed information about installing your disk drive. During
the installation procedure, you may have to change the SCSI ID of your
disk drive. Refer to the appropriate illustration to set the SCSI ID
jumpers to the desired SCSI ID.
NOTICE: We recommend that you use SCSI ID 6 for your
workstation’s first hard disk drive, and SCSI ID
5 for the second hard disk drive.

The 9–GB disk drive is fully operational with HP-UX Release 10.01 and
later on Series 700 binary–compatible systems.
The following patches are required to the operating system.
HP-UX
Version Patches

Patches – Diags

10.10 PHKL_8906 PHSS_7585
10.20 PHKL_8908 PHSS_7929
After you have loaded HP-UX onto the drive, install the appropriate
patches using
swinstall and reboot the system.

NOTICE: When installing HP–UX 10.xx on the 9–GB drive, you
may receive an HP–UX Install Utility Message Dialog
with the following error reported:
ERROR:
The disk at address “x/x/x.x.x”
requires more than the current limit of
2000 physical extents (of size 4 mega
-
bytes (MB)) to completely allocate all
its available space (8676 MB). You must
either increase the physical extent
size or increase the limit for maximum
physical extents for the volume group
“vgxx”. (See the “Modify Volume Group
Parameters” screen.)
Select Modify Configuration at the bottom of the mes-
sages dialog.
At the next screen, select Modify Volume Group Param-
eters.
At this screen you should change either the number of ex-
tents or the size of the extents.
A greater number of extents uses more in–core memory,
but results in less file fragmentation on the disk.
We suggest the following:
If your system has
64MB or less
of system
RAM, increase the value for
Physical Extent Size.
If your system has more than 64MB of
system RAM increase the value for
Maximum Physical Extents.
The HP part numbers for this drive are A1658–60016 (spare) and
A1658–69016 (exchange).
