HPE ProLiant server setup checklist
Install the hardware
TIP: Did you know that HPE has QR codes on their servers? Scan one to access important information on your mobile
device.
After installing your new HPE ProLiant e910 Server Blade:
1. Install your new HPE ProLiant e910 Server Blade in the chassis.
2. Power up your new server blade.
Prepare for configuration
Prepare to configure your new server by completing the tasks below:
1. Verify operating system support—For information about operating systems supported by ProLiant servers, see the
operating system support matrices at http://www.hpe.com/info/supportos.
2. Gather OS installation media and product key
Installation can be from virtual disc, network share, FTP, or USB. Be sure to have installation keys and read any
implementation notices that accompany the OS.
3. Verify network connectivity
Ensure that the network connection is active, if desired.
4. Verify Internet connectivity
Verify Internet access from your business network. Make a note of the gateway IP address, you may need it later.
5. Have a USB storage device available
A small portable data storage device, often called a thumb drive, which plugs into any USB port. USB drives are ideal for
storing information like OS installation media.
6. Plan for the server network address
If you do not have DHCP enabled on the network, you must have networking details ready: An IP address to assign, subnet
mask, gateway address, and DNS name. For initial setup, it is faster to allow automatic assignment of these details by
connecting your iLO to a DHCP enabled network.
Complete the configuration using Intelligent Provisioning
Complete the setup by following the information in this guide at the following links:

1. Boot your new server for the first time and start Intelligent Provisioning
2. Configure your hardware settings and install an operating system
3. Update the firmware
Set up iLO
The iLO default settings enable you to use most features without additional configuration. However, the configuration
flexibility of iLO enables customization for multiple enterprise environments. The initial iLO setup steps include:
1. Review the General security guidelines for setting up and using iLO.
2. Connect iLO to the network.
3. Connect a keyboard, monitor, and mouse to the DisplayPort and USB ports on the blade.
4. If you are not using dynamic IP addressing (DHCP), use the ROM-based setup utilities to configure a static IP address.
5. If you will use the local accounts feature, use the ROM-based setup utilities to configure user accounts.
NOTE: You no longer need to be directly connected to the blade with a monitor, keyboard, and mouse. The following steps
can be performed remotely on your network. You will need the iLO IP address or the iLO hostname (see the tag on the
blade).
6. Log into iLO for the first time.
7. Configure the iLO access settings.
8. Optional: Install an iLO license.
9. Begin using iLO.

Operations
Powering up the HPE Edgeline EL8000 Converged Edge chassis
If the HPE Edgeline EL8000 Converged Edge chassis is connected to a power source, it powers up automatically by default.
Generally, it has to be powered up only after a manual shutdown.
Procedure
1. Connect the power cables to the power supplies.
2. Connect the power cables to the power source (UPS or wall outlet) or to an installed PDU.
3. Make sure that the power supply LED is green.
Powering up the server blade
Blades can be powered up individually in the chassis. Choose the procedure that fits your need.
When each blade is installed into a powered chassis, auxiliary power is automatically provided to the blade, which powers the
blade iLO module.
Use one of the following methods to power on blades:
• Press and release the power button on the server blade.
•Use the virtual power button in the Edgeline EL8000 Chassis Manager web interface.
•Use the virtual power button in the iLO web interface hosted on the blade.
• Enter the set power on b<slot#> at the chassis manager CLI. See the HPE Edgeline EL8000 Converged Edge
System Chassis Manager CLI User Guide on the HPE website for details on CLI commands.
• Enter Power at the iLO CLI.
Before proceeding, verify that the server blade is powered on by observing that the system power LED is green. See Server
blade LEDs.
Installing the server blade into the chassis
The HPE Edgeline EL8000 Converged Edge chassis supports HPE ProLiant e910 Server Blade. Permissible server blades
configurations:
• Up to four 1U server blades
• Up to two 2U server blades
• Up to one 2U and two 1U server blades
IMPORTANT: The 2U server blades must be installed in bay 1 and bay 5.
Prerequisites
Before performing this procedure, make sure that you have the T-15 Torx key available.

Procedure
1. Align the blade and install it in the chassis:
a. Insert the blade in the chassis.
b. Close the latch on the server blade and secure it.
2. Optional: Lock the server blade.
Removing the blade from the chassis
Prerequisites
Before performing this procedure, make sure that you have the T-15 Torx key available.

1. Power down the system.
2. If locked, unlock the server blade.
3. Press and open the blade latch.
4. Remove the server blade.
Removing the top cover
The top cover is present only for the 2U server blade.
Procedure
1. Power down the server blade.
2. Remove the server blade from the chassis.

1. Install the top cover.
2. Install the 2U server blade in the chassis.
