Abstract
This guide describes how to install a basic HPE
StoreOnce 5200, 5250, or 5650 System that does not
include optional storage products. The StoreOnce
System can then be fully configured using the
StoreOnce Management Console, as described in the
HPE StoreOnce 3620, 3640, 5200, 5250, and 5650
Systems Installation Guide.
Use this guide when installing a basic system without
optional storage products and with all PCIe cards pre-
installed. PCIe cards that were ordered with the system
are pre-installed.
Use the HPE StoreOnce 3620, 3640, 5200, 5250, and
5650 Systems Installation Guide in the following cases.
• The system includes optional storage products or
capacity upgrade kits.
• The system arrived without PCIe cards pre-installed
or requires additional PCIe cards.
Process overview
Required tools:
• Torx T25 screwdriver
• A monitor and USB keyboard or a KVM for initial
network configuration

Verifying contents
The StoreOnce System includes a server node and the
base storage enclosure.
Procedure
1. Verify that you received the server components.

Recording the iLO default network
information
Procedure
Record the iLO default network information from the
label on top of the server node.

Installation prerequisites
Procedure
1. StoreOnce 5250 and 5650: Verify that the storage
enclosure has the required front and side clearance.
The clearance is required to allow hard drive
replacement.
• At least 1,000 mm to the front
• At least 300 mm to the right of the extended
drawer

2. Use rack stabilizers on racks that contain storage
enclosures.
IMPORTANT: See the rack documentation for
detailed instructions, including safety
information, about installing units within the
rack. Ensure that you have sufficient personnel
or lifting equipment to install the storage
enclosure safely.
3. StoreOnce 5250 and 5650: You can leave the disks
in the base enclosure during installation, but do not
add expansion disks until the storage enclosure is
installed in the rack.
Expansion disks ordered with the system are factory-
installed in the base enclosure.
CAUTION: If the system was delivered with
further expansion disks loaded and configured,
assess the total weight. If you remove the disks
before installing to reduce weight, ensure that
they can be returned to their original
configuration. Use the supplied labels to record
the drawer and slot location of each disk.
Installing the server node and storage
enclosures in the rack - 5200
CAUTION: Use extreme caution when installing
and pulling units from the rack. Units can slip and
fall, damaging the HPE StoreOnce System or
causing personal injury. Hewlett Packard
Enterprise is not responsible for any damage or
injury caused by mishandling the HPE StoreOnce
System.

Procedure
1. Install the server rails, as illustrated on the
installation instructions that ship with the rail kit.
NOTE: To leave room for future storage expansion,
install the base storage enclosure under the server
node. The system has a maximum of three
enclosures above the server node and three
enclosures under it.
2. Adjust the back bracket on the standard rail kit to
accommodate the storage enclosure.
Attach rear hold down brackets by sliding the tab
with the arrow pointed forward (1) into the
corresponding slot on each side of the rear of the
chassis. Use the black headed thumb screw to
secure tightly to the rail in the second hole from the
rear (2).
NOTE: It is easier to make this adjustment prior to
mounting the rails.
3. Position left and right rack rails at the desired 'U'
position in the rack, adjusting the rails to fit the rack,
as needed. Front and Rear bottom edge of rails
must align with the bottom of EIA boundary in the
lowermost 'U'
NOTE: Rails are marked L and R, with an arrow
indicating the direction the rail is installed.
4. Use guide pins to align the shelf mount kit to the
RETMA column holes.
5. To engage the rear, push the rail toward the back of
the rack until the spring hook snaps into place.
6. To engage the front, pull the rail towards the front of
the rack to engage the spring hook with the RETMA
column in the same manner as the rear spring
hook.
NOTE: Make sure that the respective guide pins for
the square or round hole rack align properly into
RETMA column hole spacing.
7. Secure the rear of the rack rail to the RETMA
column with either the provided round- or square-
hole shoulder screws.

8. Secure front of rail to the front RETMA column
using the provided flat securing screw/guide pin in
the bottom screw position of the rail.
9. Slide the enclosure into position on the rails (1).
Secure the chassis into the rack by tightening the
captive CTO screw behind the latch on the front left
and right bezel ears of the chassis (2).
CAUTION: The front CTO screw must be
attached at all times when racked.
10. Attach the rear hold down brackets by sliding the
tab with the arrow pointed forward (1) into the
corresponding slot on each side of the rear of the
chassis. Use the black headed thumb screw to
secure the chassis tightly to the rail (2).
11. Install the base server unit into the rack and secure
it using the thumbscrews on the front bezel of the
unit.
Installing the server node and storage
enclosure in the rack - 5250 and 5650
CAUTION: Use extreme caution when installing
and pulling units from the rack. Units can slip and
fall, damaging the HPE StoreOnce System or
causing personal injury. Hewlett Packard
Enterprise is not responsible for damage or injury
caused by mishandling the HPE StoreOnce
System.
Procedure
1. Install the rails, as illustrated on the installation
instructions that ship with the rail kit.
NOTE: To leave room for future storage expansion,
install the base storage enclosure under the server
node. The 5250 has a maximum of one enclosure
above the server node and one enclosure under the
it. The 5650 has a maximum of two enclosures above
the server node and two enclosures under it.
2. Insert the eight locking nuts for the storage enclosure
into the rack; two on each column.
To locate the position for the locking nuts, count up
4U from the bottom of the rails (1). Place a nut on
either side of the +4U position on each rack column
(2).

3. Holding the handles, lift the storage enclosure onto
the rails and push it into position.
WARNING: Always use at least two people to
lift an enclosure into the rack and ensure that
the enclosure is aligned with the rails. When
loading an enclosure into the rack above chest
level, a third person is required. Two people
must support the weight while the third person
assists with aligning the enclosure with the rails.
4. Tighten the thumbscrews to secure the enclosure to
the rack.
5. Attach a retaining bracket to each side of the rear of
the storage enclosure and secure them to the rack.
6. Insert the two locking nuts for the server node into the
rack; one on each front column.
7. Install the server node into the rack and secure it
using the thumbscrews on the front bezel of the unit.
Attaching the security bezel
Procedure
1. Insert the security bezel right tab into the slot on the
chassis and then rotate the bezel to close.
2. Lock the bezel.
The key to lock the bezel is attached to the back of
the security bezel. One key is supplied.
Connecting the storage enclosure SAS
cables
These instructions describe how to cable the base
storage enclosure that is bundled with the server node. It
can be identified by the JBOD1 label on the rear pull-out
tab of the 5200 enclosure or affixed to the rear of the
5250/5650 enclosure.
If you are cabling more than one storage enclosure, see
the installation guide before proceeding.

TIP: The supplied cables are labeled on each end
in the following convention: N:S3:P2 -
J1:I2:P1, where N = Node, S = Slot, P = Port, J
= JBOD, D = Drawer, and I = I/O Module.
Check the labels to determine which cable to use.
The labels are the same on both ends of the cable.
Procedure
•StoreOnce 5200: Use the supplied HD SAS cables
to connect the node server RAID controller card to
the base storage enclosure.

Connecting the storage enclosure power
cables
Procedure
•StoreOnce 5200: Connect two power cables to each
enclosure. Connect each power cable to a different
PDU.
•StoreOnce 5250 and 5650: Connect four power
cables to each enclosure. Connect each power cable
to a different PDU.
Connecting the system cables
Procedure
1. Connect the power cables.
Connect each power cable to a separate PDU in the
rack.
2. Connect a network cable to LAN port 1.
3. Connect a network cable to the iLO port
(recommended).
4. If you are not using iLO for initial configuration,
connect a VGA monitor and a USB keyboard.
Powering on the system
Prerequisites
All storage enclosures must be installed and cabled
before the system is powered on. For instructions about
installing optional storage enclosures, see the HPE
StoreOnce 3620, 3640, 5200, 5250, and 5650 Systems
Installation Guide.

Procedure
1. Verify that all SAS and server power cables are
connected.
2. Power on the StoreOnce System (the power button is
on the front of the server).
The power button LED flashes green at the start of
the power-on sequence and then turns solid green,
along with the system health LED. If LAN port 1 is
connected to an active link, the NIC status LED will
also begin to flash green when the StoreOnce
System is powering up.
While configuring the system using iLO virtual
console, the UID LED flashes blue.
1. Power button LED

After successful bootup, the console displays a login
prompt.
IMPORTANT: If the service set does not start
when the system boots, the SAS cabling may
be incorrect. For troubleshooting information,
see the installation guide.
Configuring iLO during bootup (optional)
Procedure
1. Press F9 System Utilities.
2. Navigate to System Configuration > iLO 5
Configuration > Network Options.
3. Configure the iLO network options and note the
details.

Configuring the basic network
Procedure
1. Log in using the default user name and password.
Default user name: console
Default password: changeme
2. Change the console password to proceed.
Choose a secure password with at least eight
characters that is memorable to you.
3. To configure a static address for LAN port 1 (eno1),
select the Configure initial network option
from the console menu.
Note the DHCP assigned IP address or the static
address details.

Configuring the StoreOnce System
The StoreOnce System is now accessible on the
network and ready for configuration.
Procedure
Use the First Time Setup wizard to configure the system
for use. The wizards runs automatically the first time a
user browses to the system IP address.
