2.1 Reading Carefully the Safety Cautions
Read and follow all the safety cautions and instructions on the router or described in this
document to protect personal and equipment safety during installation, operation, and
maintenance.
NOTICE, CAUTION, and DANGER items in this document do not cover all the safety
cautions and are only supplementary to the safety cautions.
Only trained and qualified personnel are allowed to install or maintain Huawei equipment.
Familiarize yourself with all safety cautions before performing any operation on the
equipment.
General Safety Guidelines
DANGER
In case of fire, immediately leave the building or equipment deployment site and press the fire
alarm button or call the fire department. Never enter the building on fire again in any
situation.
CAUTION
lBefore performing any operation on the equipment, wear ESD clothing and ESD gloves or
an ESD wrist strap. Remove conductive objects like jewelry and watch to avoid electric
shock or burn.
lAfter installing the equipment in a cabinet/rack, connect a ground cable to the equipment
before any operations on the equipment. Remove the ground cable only after you remove
all the other components and cables from the equipment.
Environmental Safety
DANGER
Do not place or operate the equipment in an environment with flammable or explosive gases
or smoke.
NOTE
lKeep the equipment away from water or damp to prevent damages to circuits.
lThe equipment heats during operation. The installation site must be well ventilated to ensure normal
operation of the equipment.

4
Electrical Safety
DANGER
lDirect contact with a high-voltage power source or indirect contact through damp objects
can be fatal. Misoperations on high-voltage facilities may result in fire, electric shock, or
other accidents.
lNever install or remove the equipment or power cables while the power is on. The electric
arc or spark generated between a power cable and conductor may cause fire or eye
damage.
lTo protect personal and equipment safety, ground the equipment before powering it on.
Laser Safety
CAUTION
lInvisible laser beams will cause eye damage. Do not look into bores of optical modules or
connectors of optical fibers without eye protection.
lAfter unplugging an optical fiber, cover the fiber connectors with dust caps.
Mechanical Safety
CAUTION
lBefore carrying a heavy object, use appropriate tools to protect yourself from bruise or
sprain.
lBefore pulling the equipment out of the cabinet/rack, check whether there are any unstable
or heavy objects on the cabinet/rack. Be careful not to make the objects fall, which may
cause body injuries.
lDo not drill holes on a cabinet without permission. Unqualified holes on a cabinet affect
the electromagnetic filter performance of the cabinet and cause damages to the cables in
the cabinet. In addition, metal scraps may fall into the cabinet when you are drilling holes,
causing short circuit on printed circuit boards (PCBs).
2.2 Checking the Installation Site
Before installing the equipment, ensure that the environment in the installation site meet
equipment operation requirements.
Heat Dissipation
There must be more than 100 mm clearance around the equipment for heat dissipation.

5
CAUTION
The equipment heats during operation. The installation site must be well ventilated to ensure
normal operation of the equipment.
lDo not install the equipment near a heat source, for example, a stove or heater.
lThe installation site must be well ventilated.
lAir vents of the equipment must not be blocked.
ESD
lReliably ground the equipment according to grounding requirements.
lWear an ESD wrist strap to prevent ESD damages to the equipment.
lEnsure that the ESD wrist strap is grounded and in a close contact with your wrist.
Damp Proofing
The equipment must operate in an environment free from water and moisture.
CAUTION
Water or moisture may damage circuits of the equipment.
lThe installation site must be free from leaking or dripping water, heavy dew, and
humidity. If the relative humidity is high, use dehumidifiers or air conditioners with
dehumidification features.
lDo not install the equipment downstream or near a water source such as a sink or laundry
room, or in an area with a high humidity.
lDo not touch the equipment with wet hands.
Dust Proofing
When the equipment is installed outdoors, the installation site must have IP55 protection
capability to ensure normal operation of the equipment.
NOTE
IP indicates International Protection rating.
In IP55, the first 5 indicates the dust protection rating, which means "Ingress of dust is not entirely
prevented, but it must not enter in sufficient quantity to interfere with the satisfactory operation of the
equipment; complete protection against contact." The second 5 indicates the water protection rating,
which means "Water projected by a nozzle against enclosure from any direction shall have no harmful
effects."
Corrosive Gases Avoidance
There must be no acidic, alkaline, or other corrosive gases in the installation site.

Electromagnetic Environment
The electromagnetic environment must meet the Electromagnetism Requirements for the
Equipment Room.
2.3 Checking the Cabinet
Before installing a router into a cabinet, check whether the cabinet meets the installation
requirements according to Table 2-1.
Table 2-1 Cabinet requirements
Item Requirement
Width The cabinet must be a standard 19 inch cabinet.
Installation space lThere must be a clearance larger than or equal to the router's
width on the left and right of the router after the installation.
lThe clearance above the router must be at least two times the
router's height and the clearance below the router must be
greater than or equal to the router's height.
Grounding The cabinet must provide a reliable ground point to ground the
router.
Heat dissipation lSufficient space must be reserved around the cabinet.
lIf a router is placed in a closed cabinet, the cabinet must have
air vents to ensure good ventilation.
2.4 Checking the Power Supply System
Table 2-2 lists power supply requirements of the industrial switching routers.
Table 2-2 Power supply requirements
Item Requirement
Preparation The power supply system must be ready
before the router installation.
