Quick Guide
•Before installing the equipment, read the product documentation carefully to get
familiar with product information and safety precautions. Huawei shall not be liable
for any consequence caused by violation of the storage, transportation, installation,
and operation regulations specified in this document. Log in to the technical support
website to view the product documentation and safety precautions.

Installing Cabinets

Determine the cabinet installation position.
Draw mounting holes in the installation
position according to the drawing.
2Use a hammer drill to drill holes for installing expansion bolts and then install
expansion bolts in the holes.

Remove the four plugs from the bottom of the cabinet. Insert expansion bolts into
the expansion bolt holes in the floor, and tighten the expansion bolts.

•Do not store batteries at low SOC. Charge batteries in time by referring to section "Power-
on and Commissioning > Recharge Requirements for Batteries with Low SOC" in the user
manual. Otherwise, batteries may be damaged due to overdischarge.
•Before installing and commissioning batteries, prepare fire fighting facilities, such as fire
sand and carbon dioxide fire extinguishers, according to construction standards and
regulations. Before putting the battery room into operation, ensure that it is equipped
with a fire extinguishing system that complies with local laws and regulations, has been
constructed and commissioned, and can work in automatic or manual control mode.

d. Reinstall the sealing plugs. (The rubber plugs must be completely
inserted into the gland to facilitate the reinstallation of the gland nut.)
e. Reinstall the gland nut with a torque of 8 N·m.

Mark the DT terminal direction. Ensure that the installation surface
of the DT terminal is parallel to the copper bar.
a. Remove certain gland sealing plugs based on the actual cable specifications.
Route the cable through the gland nut and sealing plugs.
c. Connect the cable to the copper bar.
b. Cut the cable and crimp the cable terminal.

1Remove the cover from the PDU.
2Remove the cable gland nuts from the top of the cabinet based on site.
a. Install the cabinets one by one.
b. Install connecting plates between cabinets.
If the cabinet is
installed against a

•When reinstalling the communications cable box, prevent the cable
box from pressing the cables.
•RS485 cables and FE cables must be shielded cables.
•Do not bind communications cables and power cables together.

Installing Battery Modules

Turn off the ready switch on
the BCU, remove the bolts that
secure the BCU, and pull it out
for about 10 cm.
2Install battery modules and filler panels.

Install copper bars and cables.
Press the open buttons on the left of battery modules and open the wiring terminal
covers. Check the insulation performance of the battery modules.
Set a multimeter to the DC voltage mode and measure the voltage between the
ground point and the positive and negative terminals of each battery module
respectively. If the readings are less than 6 V DC, the insulation is good. Otherwise,
contact technical support engineers.

•After removing the insulation cap from a power cable, install the cable
immediately to prevent the exposed terminal from touching the shell, which
may cause sparks or burns.
•To avoid short circuit, do not insert tools such as screwdriver directly into
threaded holes of positive or negative terminals of the battery module.
Excessive bolts will be used as spare parts.

•The following figure shows how to connect a communications cable between the
SmartLi and the integrated UPS (COM: 6 pins).
•Communications cables between the SmartLi and other UPS models (COM: 8 pins) are
connected using standard network cables.
•If more than eight SmartLi cabinets are connected in parallel, a maximum of four 15 m
parallel communications cables are supported.
•For W1 and W2, use any set of twisted-pair
cables and remove any excess wires. The same
goes for W3 and W4. Other redundant core
wires are cut off.
•The cable colors in the figure are for reference
only. The actual cable colors may vary.

If the load of a single battery cabinet is greater than 50 kW and less than or
equal to 100 kW, set I1 to the MED position.
If the load of a single battery cabinet is less than or equal to 50 kW, set I1 to
the MIN position

5After installing copper bars and cables, check that battery strings are insulated
from the cabinet.
Set a multimeter to the DC voltage mode and measure the voltage between the
uncoated part of the battery cabinet and the positive and negative terminals of
batteries respectively. If the readings are less than 6 V DC, the insulation is good.
Otherwise, contact technical support engineers.
6After checking that the battery strings are well insulated, close the wiring terminal
covers on the left of battery modules.
When closing the wiring terminal covers on a battery module, check and arrange
all cables of the board (the cascading cable must be placed in the notch). Ensure
that no cable is squeezed by the covers.
7Reinstall the BCU and fuse cover.
Select the corresponding model on the nameplate of the cabinet based on the
quantity of installed battery modules.

a. Open the wiring terminal cover on the right of the battery module.
b. Install a signal cable. The signal cable at the bottom needs to be taken out
from the buckle.
c. Close the wiring terminal cover on the right of the battery module.
d. Remove the fuse cover.
e. Open the wiring terminal cover on the left of the battery module.
f. Install a copper bar between the battery module and the fuse. Install the
copper bar end with a round hole at the fuse, and then install the copper bar
end with a slotted hole at the battery module on the lower layer.
g. Install copper bars between battery modules. Install the copper bar end with a
round hole at the battery module on the upper layer, and then install the
copper bar end with a slotted hole at the battery module on the lower layer.
h. Take out the negative cables of battery modules from the buckles and install
the cables.

•The cabinet is securely
installed and does not tilt due
to vibration.
•The adjacent cabinets are
neatly arranged and secured
with connecting kits.

red and blue after double-check.
•Battery cables or copper bars
are securely connected, the
spring washers are leveled
properly for cables secured by
screws, and the cables are intact.
•Cable ties have no exposed sharp
edges.
•Cables are bound neatly and
properly.
•Both ends of a cable are labeled.
Labels are concise and easy to
understand.
Power cables and signal cables are
separated at a safe distance and do
not cross each other.

•The resistance between the
cabinet ground bar and the
equipment room ground bar is
less than 0.1 ohm.
Grounding
•The cabinet is correctly
connected to the UPS.
•Battery cabinets in parallel
are correctly connected.
•The neutral wire is correctly
connected.
•Check whether there is a short circuit
between the positive, neutral, and negative
cables for circuit breakers, between copper
bars, and between the cables, copper bars,
and enclosure. If there is a short circuit,
check whether the cables are damaged or
short-circuited. If yes, repair the cables.

Post-installation Check
•There is no foreign matter
(such as copper wires and
screws) on the top of the
cabinet.
•There is no foreign matter
on the copper bar terminals.
•There is no foreign matter
around circuit breaker
terminals.
•There is no foreign matter
on the bottom plate of the
cabinet.
•There is no foreign matter
on the rear module subrack.
•After the BCU is removed, set a
multimeter to the DC voltage
mode and measure the voltage
between the uncoated part of the
battery cabinet and the positive
and negative terminals of batteries
respectively. If the readings are
less than 6 V DC, the insulation is
good.

Cover installation
•If the equipment will not be
powered on after installation,
take dustproof measures (for
example, use a dust cover) to
prevent dust buildup in the
equipment, which may corrode
the equipment. Remove the
dust cover only when the
equipment is ready for
operation.
•After the installation is complete,
take anti-condensation measures
and keep the air conditioner
running. Do not store the
equipment in an environment
where the temperature and
humidity are uncontrollable for a
long period of time. Otherwise, the
equipment may be damaged due
to condensation.

(using a 500 V megohm meter).

•After verifying the installation,
reinstall all the covers.

On the SmartLi LCD, set related
parameters on the Settings
Wizards screen.
4Observe the status of indicators on the
BCU. If the green indicator on the BCU
blinks at super short intervals (on for
0.1s and then off for 0.1s) and the red
indicator is steady on, switch on the
battery circuit breaker. The battery
supply is connected.

Scan QR Codes for Product Documents
Start the BCU and press the POWER
ON/OFF button on the BCU of the
SmartLi for more than 2 seconds.
When the green indicator of the BCU
blinks at short intervals, release the
POWER ON/OFF button.
•The BCB off alarm (the red
indicator is steady on) is displayed
on the SmartLi LCD. No action is
required. After the battery circuit
breaker is switched on, the alarm
will be automatically cleared.
•The green indicator blinks
intermittently. After 1 minute, the
BCU starts. The green indicator
blinks at super short intervals and
the red indicator is steady on.
