HUAWEI OceanStor V3 series storage systems are innovative mid-range and high-end offerings that are ready to
meet your current and future storage requirements. They are designed to provide medium- and large-scale
enterprises with improved storage performance, efficiency, security, scalability, and manageability.
This document guides you through a time-saving process for installing a storage system. For more information,

Arrange for at least three persons to carry and install an enclosure to avoid personal injury or device damage.
Before you handle devices, wear ESD clothes, a pair of ESD gloves, or an ESD wrist strap and remove
conductive objects such as ornaments and watches.
Do not operate devices or handle cables on a stormy day.
To avoid eye injuries, do not look into the optical outlets without eye protection.

1c Checking components
The following installation tools are required:
Phillips screwdriver (M3 to M6)
Flat-head screwdriver (M3 to M6)
Diagonal pliers
Floating nut mounting bar
A storage system power failure may cause devices connected
to the same circuit breaker to power off unexpectedly.
Therefore, ensure that the storage system power supplies
have functioning circuit breakers with the following amps:
AC power: 16 A
DC power: 32 A
1 Installation Preparations
Only materials involved in the installation process are listed here. The Packing List contains all materials required by the installation. The bag
containing the Packing List is attached to the outside of the carton.
Each controller of the OceanStor 5300 V3 is equipped with four 1 Gbit/s iSCSI host ports. Each controller enclosure of the OceanStor 5500
V3 is equipped with four smartIO host ports that do not support IP scale-out networking. In the following sections of this document, the
installation procedure is described using the OceanStor 5500 V3 as an example. The procedure for install the OceanStor 5300 V3 is similar.

Note: The height of the storage system is measured by the unit of U. 1 U equals 44.45 mm (1.75 inches).

The adjustable guide rails are 600 mm (23.62 in.) to 900 mm (35.43 in.) long.
The adjustable guide rails are preconfigured with positioning pins applicable to square holes only. For round holes,
replace the positioning pins.
Two paired adjustable guide rails must be positioned exactly parallel to one another.

(2) Remove a rail support.(1) Pull out the inner rail of the ball bearing guide rails.
(3) Loosen the screws and adjust the length of the ball
bearing guide rail to be the same of the cabinet depth. (4) Install the ball bearing guide rails.

Check the distance between the left and right guide rails, and
ensure that the two templates can snatch into the ball bearing
guide rails.
Check that the ball of the ball bearing guide rail has been
placed at the most front end of the middle rail.
Check that the edges of the middle rail and external rail are
at the same vertical plane.
(5) Fasten screws.

Scenario 2 Installing a high-density disk enclosure
(1) Install the inner rail. (3) Install a cover.

Install a disk enclosure onto the guide rails
using the same method as installing the
controller enclosure.
(4) Install the system enclosure.
(2) Mount the high-density
disk enclosure.
When mounting the high-density disk enclosure, place the side step in the rear of the high-density disk
enclosure on the front bracket of the ball bearing guide rails, and slide the disk enclosure into the cabinet
along the ball bearing guide rails (no manual alignment is required because the inner rail automatically
connects to the middle rail).
2e Installing storage devices into the cabinet
To avoid device damage, do not stack any components but install them onto guide rails.
If you remove controllers and disks to facilitate the movement and installation of the device, record the mapping
between each component and its slot in advance. That helps insert each component back to its correct slot after
the movement and installation. If the controller is inserted into a different location, a system power-on failure may
occur.

2f Installing a cable tray
(1) Insert the cable tray into the ball bearing guide rails and the high-density disk enclosure.
(2) Use a Phillips screwdriver to fasten M6 screws to secure the cable tray.
(3) Install the spring pins to cable trays to secure the cable tray.

2h Installing filler panels
2g (Optional) Installing a disk module
In addition to the empty space of the cabinet, you must install filler panels for the cable tray of the controller
enclosure. The following figure shows how to install a filler panel.

Scenario 2 Installing the disk module of a high-density disk enclosure
Install a disk module of controller enclosure using the same method as installing the disk enclosure.
To ensure well heat dissipation, insert disks in the sequence of disk slot IDs. If the disk module is not
fully configured, cover filler panels over vacant disk slots.
NOTICE
To ensure well heat dissipation, insert coffer disks to slots of A0 to A3. Then insert disks from left to right
and from E to A. If the disk module is not fully configured, cover filler panels over vacant disk slots.

3c Connecting enclosures
All the EXP ports on the storage system can connect only to the PRI ports. An incorrect connection will cause
a service interruption.
For a storage system with two or more disk enclosures, set up multiple loops based on the number of
expansion ports on the controller enclosure, and evenly allocate those disk enclosures to the loops.
Connect disk enclosures in one loop over two separate links for optimal network reliability.

Connect two high-density disk enclosures using mini SAS HD electrical cables. The cables must be naturally bent,
and a minimum of 97 mm clearance must be reserved in front of each enclosure for winding cables.
Common and high-density disk enclosures cannot be connected to one expansion loop.
Each expansion loop of high-density disk enclosures must be connected to two adjacent ports (excluding ports P1
and P2) of the 12 Gbit/s SAS interface module on a controller enclosure, for example, ports P0 and P1 or ports P2
and P3.

3d Connecting the storage system to the network
The controller enclosure can be connected to application servers using 1 Gbit/s iSCSI, 10 Gbit/s TOE, 10 Gbit/s
FCoE, 4 x 14 Gbit/s IB, 8 Gbit/s Fibre Channel, or 16 Gbit/s Fibre Channel ports. In addition, a smart ACC
module can be used to improve the storage system's performance in processing certain services.

3e Connecting to the maintenance terminal
After connecting a serial port on the storage system to the maintenance terminal through a serial cable, you can then
manage and maintain the storage system from the maintenance terminal.
During initial configuration, set an IP address for the management network port through the serial port.

AC devices can connect only to AC power supplies. To ensure a high availability of the storage system and
avoid unexpected power failures, connect the storage system to two routes of power supplies.

When you connect DC power cables, ensure that the black cable leading from the anode of the DC power
source connects to the RTN (+) terminal and that the blue cable leading from the cathode of the DC power
source connects to the NEG (-) terminal.

5a Switching on external power supplies
Switch on external power supplies in the following sequence:
disk enclosures → controller enclosure → switches (for a SAN) → application server.

4 Checking Hardware Installation
5 Powering On the Storage System
To avoid electric shocks, do not wear an ESD wrist strap when the storage system is powering on.
Do not adjust mini SAS HD electrical cable/optical cable connections between enclosures after power-on.
Otherwise the storage system may become abnormal.
Follow the correct power-on sequence of the storage system: Turn on the external power supplies to each
device (disk enclosures first and then controller enclosures). → Press the power buttons on the controller
enclosures. → Switch on the switch. → Switch on the application servers.
Follow the correct power-off sequence of the storage system: Stop host services. → Press and hold down the
power buttons on the controller enclosures until the system is completely powered off (five seconds). →
Disconnect the controller enclosures and the disk enclosures from their power supplies.
The power-on process requires 5-15 minutes. Then the disk enclosures start power-on automatically.
