ProperInstallation
Thiswatersoftening systemmust beproperlyinstalled and locatedinaccordancewiththe
InstallationInstructionsbeforeit isused.
• Do not install orstorewhereit will not be
exposed to temperatures below freezing or
exposed to any typeofweather. Water
freezing inthesystemwill breakit. Do not
attempt to treat waterover100°F.
• Do not install indirect sunlight. Excessive
sun orheat maycause distortionorother
damageto non-metallicparts.
• Properlyground to conform withall gov-
erning codes and ordinances.
• Use only lead-free solderand flux forall
sweat-solderconnections, asrequired by
stateandfederalcodes.
• Maximumallowableinlet waterpressureis
125 psi. Ifdaytimepressureisover80
psi, night timepressuremayexceed the
maximum. Use apressurereducing valve
to reducetheflow ifnecessary.
• Softenerresinsmaydegradeinthepres-
enceofchlorineabove2ppm. Ifyou
havechlorineinexcessofthisamount,
youmayexperiencereduced lifeofthe
resin. Inthese conditions, youmaywish
to considerpurchasingawholehouse car-
bonfiltersoftenersystemwithachlorine
reducing media.
• WARNING: Discard allunused partsand
packagingmaterialafterinstallation. Small
partsremainingaftertheinstallationcould
beachokehazard.

watersupplypipe,uptothesoftenerinletand outlet.
• Usecopper,brass,orPEX pipe andfittings.
• Some codesmayalsoallow PVCplastic pipe.
• ALWAYSinstalltheincludedbypassvalve,or3shut-off
valves.Bypass valvesletyouturn off watertothesof-
tenerforrepairsifneeded,but stillhavewaterinthe
house pipes.
• 5/8” OD drainlineisneeded forthevalvedrain.A10’
length ofhose is included.withsome models.
• Alength of5/8” OD drainlinetubingisneeded forthe
brine tank overflow fitting (optional).
• Nuggetorpelletwatersoftenersaltisneededtofillthe
cabinetorbrine tank.
• Continuous operationatflow ratesgreaterthantheservice flow rate may affectcapacityand efficiency performance.

Thesesoftenersconform toNSF/ANSI44 forthespecificperformanceclaimsas verifiedandsubstantiatedbytestdata.
These modelsareefficiencyrated.Theefficiencyratingisvalidonlyatthestated saltdose andmaximum service flow
rate.Theyhave ademandinitiatedregeneration(D.I.R.) featurethatcomplies with specificperformancespecifications
intendedtominimize theamount ofregenerant brineandwaterused intheiroperation.These softenershavearated
softenerefficiencyofnotless than3350 grainsoftotalhardness exchangeperpoundofsalt(basedonsodium chloride)
andshall notdelivermoresaltthantheirlisted ratings.Theratedsaltefficiencyismeasured by laboratorytestsdescribed
inNSF/ANSIStandard44.Thesetestsrepresent themaximum possibleefficiencythatthesystemscanachieve.Opera-
tionalefficiencyistheactualefficiencyafterthesystemhasbeeninstalled.Itistypicallyless thantheefficiencydueto
individualapplicationfactorsincludingwaterhardness,waterusage,andothercontaminantsthatreducethesoftener’s
capacity.Thesesystemsarenotintendedforuse with waterthatismicrobiologicallyunsafeorofunknownqualitywithout
adequatedisinfectionbeforeorafterthesystem.Forbestresults,useplain,whiteblocksalt.RefertoInstallation/
operationmanualandwarrantyforfurtherdetailsoninstallation,partsandservice,maintenanceandfurtherrestrictionsor
limitationstotheuseoftheproduct.

Themanufacturerwill not repair orpayfor

• A120 voltelectric outlet, toplugthein-
cludedtransformerinto,isneededwithin6
feetofthesoftener.Thetransformerhas
anattached6footpowercable. Besure
theelectricoutletand transformer
are inaninsidelocation,to protect
from wetweather.
• Ifinstallinginanoutsidelocation,you
musttakethestepsnecessaryto assure
thesoftener,installationplumbing,wiring,
etc.,areaswell protectedfromtheele-
ments,contamination,vandalism,etc.,as
wheninstalled indoors.
• Keepthesofteneroutofdirect sun-
light.Thesun’sheat maysoftenanddis-
tortplastic parts.

1.Ifyourhot watertank iselectric,turnoff thepowerto itto avoiddamageto theelement
inthetank.
2.Ifyouhaveaprivatewell,turnthepoweroff to thepumpandthenshutoffthemainwa-
tershutoff valve. Ifyouhavemunicipalwater,simplyshutoff themainvalve.Goto the
faucet, (preferablyonthelowestfloorofthehouse)turnonthecoldwateruntil all pres-
sureisrelieved and theflow ofwaterstops.
3.Locatethesoftenertank andbrinetank close to adrainwherethesystemwillbein-
stalled. Thesurfaceshould becleanand level.
4.Connecttheinletandoutletofthesoftenerusingappropriatefittings.Perform all plumb-
ing according tolocalplumbing codes.
• Use a½” minimumpipeortubing sizeforthedrainline
• ON COPPER PLUMBINGSYSTEMSBE SURE TOINSTALL AGROUNDING
WIRE BETWEENTHEINLETANDOUTLETPIPINGTOMAINTAINGROUND-
ING.
Any solderjointsnearthevalvemustbedonebeforeconnectingany pipingto thevalve.
Alwaysleaveat least6"(152 mm)betweenthevalveandjointswhensolderingpipes that
areconnected to thevalve. Failuretodo thiscould cause damageto thevalve.
5.Connectthedrainhose(10 ftincluded) to thevalveandsecureitwithahose clamp (also
included). Run thedrainhose to thenearestlaundrytubordrainpipe.Thiscanberan
upoverheadordownalongthefloor.Ifrunningthedrainlinemorethan20ftoverhead,
itisrecommendedto increase thehose sizeto 3/4”.NEVER MAKEADIRECTCONNEC-
TION INTOAWASTEDRAIN.APHYSICALAIRGAP OFATLEAST1.5”SHOULD BE USED
TOAVOIDBACTERIAAND WASTEWATER TRAVELLING BACKTHROUGHTHEDRAIN
LINEINTOTHESOFTENER.
6.UsingtheAllenKey(included), placetheunitinthebypass position.Slowlyturnonthe
mainwatersupply.Atthenearestcoldtreatedwatertapnearbyremovethefaucet
screen,openthefaucetand letwaterrun afewminutes oruntil thesystemisfree ofany
air orforeignmaterialresulting fromtheplumbing work.
7.Makesuretherearenoleaksintheplumbingsystembeforeproceeding. Close thewater
tap whenwaterrunsclean.
8.Openthebrinetank /cabinetsaltlidandadd wateruntil thereisapproximately3"(75
mm) ofwaterinthetank. Do not add salt to thebrinetank at thistime.
9.Proceed to startup instructions.
Note: Theunitisnot readyforserviceuntil youcompletethestart-up instruc-
tions.

System Start-Up
1.Plugthepowertransformerinto anap-
provedpowersource.Connectthepower
cord to thevalve.
2.Whenpowerissuppliedto thecontrol,the
screenwill display“INITIALIZING WAIT
PLEASE” whileit findstheserviceposition.
3.ManuallystepthevalvepasttheBRINE
positiontotheBACKWASHposition.If
screenislocked, press SETTINGS for3
secondsto unlock.Press andholdthe
MANUL REGEN.Keyfor3seconds.Press
any keyto skip theBRINEcycle.
4.OnceintheBACKWASHcycle,openthe
inletonthebypass valveslowlyandallow
watertoentertheunit. Allow all air to es-
capefromtheunitbeforeturningthewa-
teronfullythenallowwatertorun to
drainfor3-4minutes oruntil all media
fines arewashedoutofthesoftenerindi-
catedbyclearwaterinthedrainhose.
5.Press any buttontoadvanceto theRINSE
position.Checkthedrainlineflow. Allow
thewaterto run for3-4minutesoruntil
thewaterisclear.
6.Press any buttonto advanceto theREFILL
position.Checkthatthevalveisfillingwa-
terinto thebrinetank.Allow thevalveto
refill forthefull amountoftimeasdis-
playedonthescreentoinsureaproper
brinesolutionforthenext regeneration.
7.Thevalvewill automaticallyadvancetothe
SERVICE position.Opentheoutletvalve
onthebypass,thenopenthenearest
treatedwaterfaucetandallowthewater
to run until clear,close thetap andreplace
thefaucet screen.
8.Add salt into thecabinet / brinetank.
9.Programunit.

Control OperationDuringAPowerFailure
Intheeventofapowerfailure,thevalvewill keeptrackofthetimeanddayfor48 hours.
Theprogrammedsettingsarestoredinanon-volatilememoryandwill not belostduringa
powerfailure.Ifpowerfailswhiletheunitisinregeneration,thevalvewill finishregenera-
tionfromthepointitisat oncepowerisrestored. Ifthevalvemisses ascheduledregener-
ationdueto apowerfailure,itwill queuearegenerationat thenextregenerationtimeonce
powerisrestored.
MainDisplay
ThemaindisplaypagewillpauseontheDate andTime pagefor 5seconds.Thenitwill continuallyscroll
throughall ofthesystem diagnosticdisplaypages. DependingontheValveTypesome pageswill notbedis-
played. Tomanuallyscrollthroughthediagnostics, press thedownor upkey.Toreset theTOTALREGENS,
TOTALGALLONSOVER RUN TOTAL,or PEAK flowrates, press andhold theMENU until thevaluechangesto
zero.
Thebrinetank isequippedwithasafetyfloat whichpreventsyourbrinetank fromoverfill-
ing asaresult ofamalfunctionsuchasapowerfailure.

NewSounds
Youmaynoticenewsoundsasyourwatersofteneroperates.Theregenerationcyclelasts
up to 180 minutes. During thistime, youmayhearwaterrunning intermittentlyto thedrain.
AboutTheSystem

AutomaticHardWaterBypass DuringRegeneration
Theregenerationcyclecanlast30 to 180 minutes,afterwhichsoftwaterservicewill bere-
stored. Duringregeneration,hardwaterisautomaticallybypassedforuse inthehousehold.
Hot watershouldbeusedaslittleaspossibleduringthistimeto preventhardwaterfrom
fillingthewaterheater.Thisiswhy automatic regenerationissetforsometimeduringthe
nightandmanualregenerationsshouldbeperformedwhenlittleornowaterwill beusedin
thehousehold.
Normalregenerationtimeis2:00 AM.
Whenthesystemcapacityisnearexhausted, aregenerationisnecessaryto restorethesys-
temto full capacity. Thetablebelow explainstheregenerationsteps.

Manual Bypass
Inthecase ofemergency,suchasanoverflowingbrinetank,youcanisolateyourwater
softenerfromthewatersupplyusingthebypass valvelocatedat thebackofthecontrol.In
normaloperationthebypass isopenwiththeon/off knobsinlinewiththeinletandoutlet
pipes.
To isolatethesoftener,simplyrotatetheknobsclockwise (asindicatedbythewordBYPASS
andarrow)until theylock.Youcanuse yourwaterrelatedfixtures andappliances asthe
watersupplyisbypassingthesoftener.However,thewateryouuse will behard. To resume
soft waterservice, openbypass valvebyrotating theknobscounterclockwise.
Maintenance
AddingSalt
Use onlycrystalwatersoftenersalt. Checkthesaltlevelmonthly.It isimportanttomain-
tainthesaltlevelabovethewaterlevel.To add salt,simplyliftthesaltlidandadd thesalt
directlyinto thebrinetank.Besurethebrinewell coverisonandfill onlytotheheightof
thebrinewell.
Bridging
Humidityorwrongtypeofsaltmaycreateacavitybetweenthewaterandthesalt. Thisac-
tion,knownas“bridging”,preventsthebrinesolutionfrombeingmade,leadingto yourwa-
tersupplybeing hard.
Ifyoususpectsaltbridging, carefullypoundontheoutsideofthebrinetank orpoursome
warm wateroverthesaltto breakupthebridge.Thisshouldalwaysbefollowedupbyal-
lowingtheunitto use upany remainingsaltandthenthoroughlycleaningoutthebrine
tank. Allowtwo hoursto produceabrinesolution, thenmanuallyregeneratethesoftener.

CleaningorReplacingInjectors
Sediment, saltandsiltwill restrictorclogtheinjector.Acleanwatersupplyandpuresalt
will prevent thisfromhappening.
Theinjectorassemblyislocatedontherightsideofthecontrolvalve.Thisassemblyis
easyto clean.
1.Shutoff thewatersupplyto yoursoftenerandreducethepressurebyopeningacoldsoft
waterfaucet.
2.Usingascrewdriver,removethefourscrewsholdingtheinjectorcoverto thecontrol
valvebody.
3.Carefullyremovetheassemblyand disassembleasshowninabovefigure.
4.Theinjectororificeisremovedfromthevalvebodybycarefullyturningitoutwithalarge
screwdriver. Removetheinjectorthroat thesameway.
5.Carefullyflushall partsincludingthescreen.Use amildacidsuchasvinegarorPro-Rust
Out to cleanthesmall holes intheorificeand throat.
6.Reassembleusing thereverseprocedure.

ReplacingBrineLineFlowControl (BLFC)
1.Removethered clip that secures thebrineelbow.
2.RemovetheBLFC holderfromtheelbow fitting.
3.Split theBLFC holderapartand removetheflow washer.
4.Reassembleusing thereverseprocedure.

ReplacingDrainLineFlowControl (DLFC)
1.Removethered clip that secures thedrainlineelbow.

CareofYourSystem
Toretaintheattractiveappearanceofyournewwatersoftener,cleanoccasionallywithmild
soapsolution.Donotuse abrasivecleaners,ammoniaorsolvents.Neversubjectyoursof-
tenerto freezing orto temperatures above100°F.
ResinCleaner
Anapprovedresincleanermustbeusedonaregularbasisifyourwatersupplycontains
iron.Theamountofresincleanerandfrequencyofuse isdeterminedbythequantityof
ironinyourwater(consultyourlocalrepresentativeorfollow thedirectionsontheresin
cleanerpackage).
Sanitizing Procedure
Careistakenat thefactoryto keep yourwatersoftenercleanand sanitary. Materialsused
to makethesoftenerwill not infect orcontaminateyourwatersupply, and will not cause
bacteriatoform orgrow. However, during shipping, storage, installing and operating, bac-
teriacouldget intothesoftener. Forthisreason, sanitizingasfollowsissuggested whenin-
stalling.
Sani-System LiquidSanitizer Concentrate
Item#80030021—SoftenerSanitizer0.25 fl.oz (24 Pack)
1.Besureto completeallinstallationsteps, including programming.
2.Foreffectiveand completesanitization,Sani-SystemLiquid SanitizerConcentrateisrec-
ommended. Pourone0.25 fl. Oz. packageinto thebrinewell located inthecabinetor
brinetank. (Alternativeuse 3/4oz ofcommon5.25% household bleach)
3.Startanimmediateregeneration. (See page11)
4.TheSoftenerSanitizerSolutionisdrawninto and throughthewatersoftenerto sanitize
it. Thissanitizing regenerationisoverinabout twohours. Then, softwater isavailable
foryouruse.
NOTE: Sanitizing isrecommended bytheWaterQualityAssociationfordisinfecting. On
somewatersupplies, theysuggest periodic sanitizing.
