Parallel I/O
Adapter
Card
Use the following instructions to install a 3400
Parallel I/O Adapter Card into a 3400 printer. This
procedure must be performed only by trained service
personnel.
Parts Provided:
• Parallel I/O Adapter Card
• Ribbon cable
Tools Required:
• Phillips screwdriver
Step 1
Removing the I/O Board Port Cover
1. Switch off the printer power and remove the power
cord from the printer.
2. Remove the media cover and the electronics cover
from the printer.
3. Remove and discard the optional I/O board port
cover from the rear of the printer. Retain the
two screws.

Step 2
Installing the Parallel I/O Adapter Card
1. Connect one end of the ribbon cable to J2 on the parallel I/O adapter card.
Note: Both ends of the ribbon cable are keyed. Either end can be plugged onto
the parallel I/O adapter card or the main PCB.
2. With the component side of the parallel I/O adapter card facing the interior of
the printer, secure the parallel I/O adapter card to the optional I/O board port
with the two port cover screws.
3. Connect the free end of the ribbon cable to J8 on the main PCB.
4. Reinstall and secure the media cover and
electronics cover.
5. Reinstall the power cord.
6. To test for printer communication,
refer to Section 1 of the
3400 User’s Manual
(Part No. 059691).
