1. INTRODUCTION
1.1 Purpose
The Zynq Ultrascale+ RFSoC (ZU29/39/49DR) SOM Development platform incorporates Zynq Ultrascale+ RFSoC (ZU29/39/49DR) based
SOM and RF PCIe Carrier board validation of Zynq Ultrascale+ RFSoC (ZU29/39/49DR) functionality. This document is the Hardware User
Guide for the Zynq Ultrascale+ RFSoC (ZU29/39/49DR) RF PCIe Board and provides detailed information on the overall design & usage of
the RF PCIe Board from a Hardware Systems perspective. The details about the Zynq Ultrascale+ RFSoC (ZU29/39/49DR) SOM hardware
is explained in another document “iW-RainboW-G42M-Zynq-Ultrascale+RFSoC(ZU29,39,49DR)-SOM-HardwareUserGuide”.
1.2 Overview
iWave's Zynq Ultrascale+ RFSoC (ZU29/39/49DR) Development platform comes with Zynq Ultrascale+ RFSoC (ZU29/39/49DR) SOM and
the RF-PCIe Carrier Board. The development board can be used for quick prototyping of RF and various applications targeted by the Zynq
Ultrascale+ RFSoC (ZU29/39/49DR). With the ¾ PCIe card size, carrier board is packed with all the necessary on-board connectors to
validate the features of Zynq Ultrascale+ RFSoC (ZU29/39/49DR) SOM.

2.3 Board to Board Connectors
The Zynq Ultrascale+ RFSoC (ZU29/39/49DR) carrier board supports two Board to Board mating connectors for Zynq Ultrascale+ RFSoC
SOM attachment. This Board to Board connector are capable of handling high-speed serialized signals and can be used for size constrained
embedded applications.
2.3.1 Board to Board Connector1
Board to Board Connector1 (J7) is physically located at the top of the board as shown below.

2.4 PS Interface Features
The features which are supported from Zynq Ultrascale+ RFSoC (ZU29/39/49DR) PS is explained in the following section.
2.4.1 PS-GTR Transceivers
The Zynq Ultrascale+ RFSoC (ZU29/39/49DR) Carrier board supports different high speed interfaces through four PS-GTR lanes (from B2B-
2). Two PS-GTR lane is connected to High speed MUX/DEMUX IC to support different configurations for M.2 PCIe and DisplayPort as below
•x2, or x4 lane of M.2 PCIe at Gen2 (5.0Gb/s) rates
•1 or 2 lanes of DisplayPort (TX only) at 1.62Gb/s, 2.7Gb/s, or 5.4Gb/s
2.4.1.1 PCIe x4 M.2 Connector
The Zynq Ultrascale+ RFSoC (ZU29/39/49DR) Carrier board supports one PCIe x4 M.2 (KeyM) connector through PS-GTR Lanes of Zynq
Ultrascale+ RFSoC (ZU29/39/49DR) PS. By default, the two PS-GTR lane-0 and lane -1 from Board to Board Connector-2 are connected to
PCIe x2 Gen2 M.2 connector to support x2 PCIe devices. The GTR lane-2 and lane-3 TX lanes are connected to the Display port and M.2
Connector through Mux/DEMUX Chip and by default configured for DisplayPort. If display port is not used, GTR lane-2 and lane-3 can be
utilised to support x4 at PCIe x4 M.2 connector. The Carrier board provides 100MHz reference clock to PCIe x4 connector and PS-GTR0
reference clock from on board Clock Generator” DSC557-0344FL1T”. This PCIe x4 M.2 Connector (J45) is physically located at the top of
the board as shown below.

2.4.1.2 Display Port Type-C Connector
The Zynq Ultrascale+ RFSoC (ZU29/39/49DR) Carrier board supports one Display port Type-C connector through PS-GTR Lanes of Zynq
Ultrascale+ RFSoC (ZU29/39/49DR) PS. PS-GTR Lane2 & Lane3 from Board to Board Connector2 is connected to Display port Type-C
connector through M.2 PCIe & DP MUX/DEMUX IC.
The Display port connector supports AUX+ & AUX- signals from the PL Bank IOs. This Display Port connector (J5) is physically located at
the top of the board as shown below.

2.4.2 Gigabit Ethernet Port1
The Zynq Ultrascale+ RFSoC (ZU29/39/49DR) SOM Carrier board supports one 10/100/1000Mbps Ethernet port through GEM0. Ethernet
PHY output signals from Board to Board connector2 is directly connected to RJ45 Magjack (J36). The Ethernet supports activity LED
(orange) and Link (Green) LED indications on RJ45 Magjack connector. This RJ45 Magjack connector(J36) is physically located at the top
of the board as shown below.
