1. This manual is NOT intended as a comprehensive repair guide to the appliance.
2. It is intended for use by suitably qualified persons with relevant technical competence,
the applicable product knowledge and suitable tools and test equipment
3. Servicing and repair of electrical appliances must be undertaken with the appliance
disconnected from the electrical supply
4. Before servicing the appliance must be checked for earth continuity and Insulation
resistance to establish if any pre-existing fault condition exists.
5. Persons carrying out repairs should use personal protective equipment (PPE) as
necessary to guard against sharp edges on metal and plastic parts.
6. When dismantling take care when removing covers not to damage any wiring which
may be connected to them.
7. Do not use excessive force when disconnecting/reconnecting wiring connectors. Also
ensure that wiring connectors and cables are replaced back in their original position
and any cut cable ties are replaced.
8. Some appliances utilise tamper-proof fixings, the correct tools must be used to release
these fixings and they must always be replaced.
9. After servicing is completed the appliance must be rechecked for Electrical Safety and
functionally tested.

Portable Appliance Testing Information
Portable Appliance Test instruments must only be used by qualified persons. This general
guidance forms part of a full PAT inspection and must be read in conjunction with the PAT
tester user instructions and any current testing legislation and standards. Best practice safety
precautions must be taken.
Kenwood KM070 / KM080 series:
•Product is Class 1 type
•Connect the earth test probe to the planet hub nut as shown below
•Carry out Earth Continuity and Insulation Resistance tests according to the guidance
provided with the PAT test instrument.

Induction Cooking
Induction cooking is an advanced cooking method that employs the principles of
electromagnetic induction. When an electric current is passed through a copper coil in the
induction cooking area it creates an electro-magnetic field. When the COOKING CHEF bowl is
locked into position the circuit is completed by a special layer of stainless steel in the bowl base.
In turn this creates a large amount of thermal energy that passes through to the contents of the
bowl, thus heating the food.

Heating Efficiency
Induction cooking is extremely energy efficient because it only produces heat in the base of the
bowl. Other heating methods such as gas hobs waste almost 50% of the heat energy around the
sides of the pan. The Induction cooking area on your COOKING CHEF only feels hot during and
immediately after cooking because of the heat transferred back from the contents of the bowl.
This means that Induction cooking is very efficient, very safe and very clean.

Display
Display
The LCD display can be toggled to display
either the timer or the temperature.
The timer
It shows either minutes/seconds or
hours/minutes.
The temperature is displayed in °C. This
display also shows error codes
indicating interlock errors and technical
errors.
LED lights flash to indicate that heating,
stirring and fold/pulse actions
are in operation.
Timer operation
• The timer will only count up or down when
a mixing or stir function is selected via the
speed control knob.
• The timer can only be set (or re-set) when
the machine is stopped.
• The timer is set in 5 second increments.
When mixing
•When started the timer will count up,
unless the timer has been set by using the
+/- buttons. Mixing will continue until the
timer reaches 3 hours, at which point the
mixing will stop and there will be an
audible sound. This will also switch the
heating OFF.
•If the timer has been set by using the +/-
buttons, the timer will count down when
mixing is started. Mixing will continue until
the timer counts down to 00:00, at which
point the mixing will stop and there will be an
audible sound. This will also switch the
heating OFF.
•The timer will pause if the speed control is
rotated to the “0” position and will start again
when it is rotated back to any ON position.
Whilst stopped, the elapsed time will be
displayed.
•The timer can be reset to 00:00 by pressing
the + and - buttons at the same time for 0.5
seconds.
•The timer is limited to 3 hours maximum.

Temperature Measurement
Temperature measurement
The heat function is only available whilst
mixing. During heating the temperature LED
will pulse on and off. The LED will remain on
while the temperature is +/- 5°C of the
required setting.
When heating water to a temperature of
100°C, the accuracy is +/- 5°C.
The different consistencies of food make it
harder to be completely accurate.
The temperature of the bowl and its
contents are controlled by two probes
located in the bowl seat of the machine.
These probes work together to ensure that
the temperature does not get too high.
One probe (NTC) measures the heat of the
contents of the bowl. The other probe
(NCT2) measures the temperature of the
aluminium – the input heat. The onboard
computer compares these two
temperatures. The input heat cannot go
more than 25% over the bowl temperature.

The Bowl
Bowl
Maintaining the large 6.7L fill capacity of the
existing Major bowl, our COOKING CHEF
bowl takes things a step further. It is a
unique interlocked bowl comprising a
special base for induction cooking. Of
course, this bowl can also be used for cold
mixing.
The standard major bowl will also fit and
work on COOKING CHEF for cold mixing only.
MAJOR size plastic bowl will not fit.
Material
The outside of the bowl is made from
stainless steel.
Inside the base, aluminium is used to
conduct the heat more evenly.
Size
The total capacity of the bowl is 6.7L. The
maximum heating capacity is 3L and
is marked inside the bowl.
Special Base
For induction heating (see diagram).
Handles
The handles have a soft grip material that is
cool to touch and provides a reliable grip.
Cleaning
The bowl can either be cleaned in a
dishwasher or by hand.
