GENERAL
FEATURES
The PD series arecompactDCpowersuppliesregulatedby
phase control.Theyhavesufficientreliabilityandaccurate
electrical characteristicsandaresuitablefor research, ex-
periments, agingofmanyhours,andforcontrol,etc.Theyare
provided also with meansofprotectionandremotecontrol.
They aredesigned totally forthe ease ofuse.
*The size iscompactowingtothebuilt-inphase-controlled
preregulator.
* Characteristics ofvoltageregulationandagainst noises in-
cluding ripplesareverygood.
*Bothvoltageandcurrentvary little with temperature.
*Theoutputvoltagemaybechangeableinsmall steps with
a potentiometerturnableasmanyastenpositions.
*TheV/l CHECK switchprovidedpermitsto check the
preset valuesofvoltageandcurrentevenduringoperation.
*TheOUTPUTswitchturnsonandofftheoutput.
*Protectioniscomplete from overvoltage,overcurrent,and

1)Keeptheoperatingtemperaturerangeof0°to40°C.
Iftheambienttemperature rises excessively,the
device's protectionsystemworksandcutsoffpower.
2)Keepcleartheventilationopenings(at sides andbot-
tom)andthepassageoffanair.Installanyother
devices morethan30cmapart from thoseopenings.
3)Avoidtoinstallthepowersupplyina dustyplaceand
wheretherearemuchcorrosive gases.
4)Avoidtoinstallsensitiveinstrumentsonandbesidethe
powersupply.

5)Seta currentlimit.
Keeping theV/I CHECK switchdepressed,seta desired

RENT).
6)Turnonoutput.
TurnontheOUTPUTswitch,andthepresetvoltageisout-
putattheoutputterminalswiththeoutputindicatorlit.
Notes:
(1)If excessive currentflowsaswhentheloadisshorted,
thedeviceperformsconstant-currentoperationatthe
preset limit ofoutputcurrentandtheoutputvoltage
falls.
(2)Iftheovervoltageprotectionlevelissetlowerthanthe
preset levelofoutputvoltage,thepowerswitchwillbe
turnedoffbyovervoltageprotection.
See howtosetovervoltageproteciton.
(3)WhenthevoltageadjusterknobisrotatedfromMINto
MAXwiththeOUTPUTswitchON,theoutputvoltage

is varied from -[0.0025x ratedvoltage]to
[1.025x ratedvoltage].
(4)WhentheOUTPUTswitchisOFF,-0.7V (max)
negativeoutputisobtained.Therefore,whenconnec-
ting a loadwhichmightbedamagedbythenegative
voltage,performinthefollowingmanner:
1)SetthevoltageadjusterknobtoMIN.
2)TurntheOUTPUTswitchON.
3)Connecttheload.
4)Settheappropriatevoltage with voltageadjuster
knob.
AS A CONSTANT-CURRENT POWER SUPPLY
1)Checktheratedinputvoltage,thenconnectthepower
cord.
2)Turnthecurrentadjusterknob(CURRENT)fullycounter-
clockwise.
3)Turnonthepowerswitch.ThePOWER(red)indicator
lightsandthedeviceisinconstant-currentmode. Make
sure that theOUTPUTswitchisoff(theindicatorisout).
4)Seta desiredcurrent.
Keeping theV/I CHECK switchdepressed,seta desired
constant current with thecurrentadjusterknob(CUR-
RENT).
5)Seta voltage limit.
Set a desiredvoltage limit with thevoltageadjusterknob
(VOLTAGE). Itistheovervoltageprotectionlevel.
6)Turnonoutput.
TurnontheOUTPUTswitch,andtheoutputindicator
lightsandthepowerisoutputthroughtheoutputter-
minals.
Note:
Ifitisnotpreferabletoapplycurrentsuddenlyliketoa large
inductance load,turnthecurrentadjusterknob(CURRENT)
fullycounterclockwiseandincreasecurrentgraduallyafter
turningontheoutput.
HOWTO CHECK VOLTAGE AND CURRENT
1)Voltage/Currentpresetting
WhentheV/I CHECK switchisdepressed,theconstant-
voltageisindicatedonthevoltmeterandconstantcurrent
is indicatedonthecurrentmeter.Hereupon,itis possible to
set a desiredvoltageorcurrent with thevoltageadjuster
knob(VOLTAGE)orcurrentadjusterknob(CURRENT).
2)Voltage/Currentcheck
WhentheV/I CHECK switchisdepressedatconstant-
currentoperation,thepresetcurrentandthepresetvoltage
can bechecked.

APPLICATION
HOWTOSET OVERVOLTAGE PROTECTION
(OVP) LEVEL
KeepingtheOVP CHECK switchdepressed,theovervoltage
protectionlevelindicatedonthevoltmeter.
(1)TurnofftheOUTPUTswitch.
(2)KeepingtheOVP CHECK switchdepressed,screwthe
OVPadjuster with a screwdriverandsetanovervoltage
protectionlevel.
(3)TurnontheOUTPUTswitch with noloadconnected(the
indicatorlights).Raisingthe output voltagegradually,
check ifthepowerswitchturnsoffatthepresetover-
voltageprotectionlevel.
(4)Settheovervoltageprotectionlevelatthemaximum
readingofthe output voltmeterifovervoltageprotection
is notnecessary.
USE OF REAR-PANEL TERMINALS
The output andcontrolterminalsshownaboveareequipped
ontherearpanel.Theseterminalsmaybeusedto perform
remotesensing,remotecontrolof output voltageand output
current,master/slavecontroloperation with powersupply
connectedinseriesorparallel.
REMOTE SENSING
Whenthedeviceisconnectedtoa load,voltagedropsdueto
contactresistanceatthe output terminalsandresistanceof
conductors. Remotesensingisperformedtocompensatefor
thevoltagedrop.
1) Turnoffpower.
2)Removetheshortbars© - (£s) and© - (Js).
3)Connectandtotheload.Usea two-coreshield
cableforthesesensinglinesandconnecttheshieldlineto
© output.

This unitadoptsthe floating circuitsystem.Ithasterminals
isolated from theframeandcontrols output powerontheba-
sis ofthepositive( + ) output terminal.
Tocontroltheconstantvoltageandconstantcurrentsettings
using externalvoltage,connectthepositive(+) output termi-
nalandGNDterminalonthe front panelasfollows:

theshortbar(asshownabove)oropen(asshownbelow):

Series connection
The outputvoltageisthesumoftheoutputvoltagesofthe
units. Theoutputvoltageandcurrentofeachslaveunitare
controllable with theconstant-voltageandconstant-current
controls ofthemasterunit.

Constant-currentcharging
It is possible to charge a battery or capacitorautomatically
with a chargingcurrent or a finalvoltagepreset.
1)Keeping theV/I CHECK switchdepressed, set the final
chargingvoltage with the constant-voltagecontroland the
chargingcurrent with the constant-currentcontrol.
2) Close switch Slf andconstant-currentchargingstarts and
continues until the finalvoltage is reached.
Note:
(1)Besure to equalize the polarity of the supplypowerand
battery.
(2)Currentwould flow back into thepowersource if the sup-
plyvoltageislowerthanthe battery voltage,theOUTPUT
switch isoff, or powersupply is turned off. In this case
reconnectdiode Dx inthe forwarddirection.

connection of battery or capacitor may cause damage to
this unit)
3) Close switch S2,and constant-currentdischargingstarts
andcontinues until the finalvoltage is reached.
Note:
(1)UseswitchS2 to turn onand off discharging. (If theOUT-
PUT switch or powerswitch is off, currentflows in this
unitthrough the protectingdiodeconnected in parallel
with the output terminals.)
(2) Be carefulabout the powerconsumption ofthe load
resistor of discharging.
