GENERAL INTRODUCTION
The CS-1720 isa dual-traceprogrammableoscilloscope,
with upto62mainprogrammefunctionssettingsprogram-
mable beforehand.With such prior programming,great
energy savings arepossibleinthemanufacturing process,
as theoscilloscopecanbeoperated with simplekeycon-
trols. In addition totheprogrammedoperation,itispossible
tousethe CS-1 720asa normalmanuallycontrolledscope
byswitchingitovertothe FREE position.Thefunctionofthe
oscilloscope isfurtherincreased with optional accessory
units: theprobeselector,whichgives20possiblesignal
channels; thememorypack,whichcantransferandretain
theprogrammecontents;andtheprinterwhichcanproduce
a hardcopyoftheprogrammedata.Remotecontroltest
fixtureoftheproductionline,andcomputercontrolare also
possible.
FEATURES
• Themicroprocessor:programmes with a maximumof
62 stepscanbestoredintheoscilloscopememory.
• Programmingandwaveformmeasuringconditionsare
easily programmedbypanelcontrol with one-touchkey
operations.
• Parts oftheprogrammecanbe easily correctedusing
theclearlylaidoutfunctioncontrolpanel.
• A maximumof62steps (00-61) canbedirectlyset
with thekeyboard,andsequentiallyset with the
UP/DOWN keys.
• Theprogrammecontentshavea batterypoweredback-
up system, andareabletoberetainedinthememoryfor
a longtime,even though the POWER switchisoff.
• One-touchoperationconvertstheoscilloscopetomanual
control,whenitfunctionsasa normaloscilloscope.

-NOTE
Before usingtheoscilloscope CS-1 720,checkthe
powersupplyvoltage,andmakesurethatthe
voltageselectorswitchiscorrectlysettothecor-
respondingvoltage.Ifthecontrolisincorrectlyset,
damagetotheelectriccircuitswilloccur,socheck
carefully.Aftercheckingthatthepowersupply
voltageandthevoltageselectorswitchcorrespond,
connectthe CS-1 720oscilloscopetoa suitable
socket usingtheACpowercord.
1) Donotswitchthepowerswitchonandoffrapidlyin
succession, asthismay cause ittomalfunction.Allow
atleast3 seconds betweenswitchingonandswitch-
ingoff.
2) Whenconnectingordisconnectinganyoftheoptional
accessories, thepowermustbeOFF.
3) Avoidusingthe CS-1 720underthe following condi-
tions:
a) Indirectsunlight.
b) Ina room with hightemperatureandhumidity.
c) Ina roomaffectedbyvibration from nearby
machinery.
d) Nearanyhighvoltageinstrument,orone with a
strongmagneticfield.
4) Ensure thatthevoltageateach input terminaldoesnot
exceed themaximumrating.

a stationaryspotdisplayedonthe screen.
7) The CS-1 720 uses a backupbatterysystemforthepro-
grammedata.Whenthebatterylevelis getting low,the
STEP LEDwillflashwhenthepowerisswitchedon.In
thisevent,replacethebatteries,referringtothe
appropriatesectioninthemaintenanceinstructions.
8) Toavoidpossibleelectricshocks,ensuretheearth
terminalisproperlyconnected.(See front panel
(16) forexplanationandinstructions)
9) Besurethatnoobjectsareallowedtorestonthetop
ofthe unit orthatcoolingventsarenotblocked,since
thiswill cause anunduetemperature rise.
10) Beforeremovingthe case, besureto turn offthe
power. Since the CS-1 720makesuseofhighvoltage
circuitry,ifremovingthe case, refertothe
"MAINTENANCE" forremovingthe case.

3) Locktheleverbyattachingthestopperplatetothe
oppositesideand tight thetwo screws.

14) Inordertoobtainaccuratemeasurements,itismost
important tocalibratetheprobecorrectlybeforeusing
theoscilloscope. First, connecttheprobetothechan-
neltobe used, andconnectthetipoftheprobetothe
CAL terminalonthe front panel.Adjusttheprobetrim-
merpottogetthepropersquarewaveformontheCRT
screen. WhenconnectingtheprobetotheCALter-
minal, besurealwaystoconnectittogether with the
GND terminal.WhentheGNDterminalisinanopen
condition,signalnoisewillaccompanythewaveform.

waveform.Theverticalsensitivityiscalibratedat
GAIN CALposition.Whentheoscilloscopeisbeingus-
edasanX-Yscope,this control serves asthe Y-axis
control.
(2) GAIN PRESET
Verticalattenuationadjusterandpresetselector;
change-overof4 presetrangesandCAL,setbythe
verticalattenuationadjustment control (29). This
selectoriscalibratedintheCALposition.InX-Yscope
this control isthe Y-axis presetselector.

Vertical input selectorswitchforCH1.InX-Yopera-
