and maintain the Konami Gaming, Inc� KX43 machine� This

TERMINOLOGY

The term “machine” is used throughout this manual and is

dened as a physical piece of electromechanical equipment

designed and manufactured by Konami Gaming, Inc� This

machine is for sale and use only as an amusement apparatus

in jurisdictions permitting such machines�

The term “game” is used throughout this manual and is dened

as the programmed operation of the machine after money,

tokens, coupons, or equivalent are accepted� Typical game

characteristics include player interaction with the machine

through the use of buttons, and payout of coins, tokens,

coupons, or the equivalent when reel symbol combinations

appear on the payline and match the game’s paytable�

The term “operator” is used throughout this manual and is

dened as any person, partnership, company, or corporation,

and/or their legal representatives, who own, operate, service,

maintain, and/or derive prot from their association with this

machine�

The term “player” is used throughout this manual and is

dened as any person who deposits money, tokens, coupons,

or the equivalent into the machine for the purpose of playing

the games offered by the machine as dened by the rules

and odds set by the operator�

UNPACKING AND INSPECTING

Unpack and inspect the machine before you turn on the

power� If the machine has been damaged during shipping,

contact your Konami Distributor, or Konami Customer Service

Representative, depending on warranty and sales contract

terms�

For Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) information,

see Section 1 of this manual�

Carefully unpack and remove all loose parts and shipping

materials� Then, do the following:

• Inspect components for damage�

• Verify the power cord is properly routed from the cabinet�

• Verify all wire connectors are rmly seated.

• Check all display areas for signs of broken glass or bulbs�

INSTALLING THE CANDLE

1� Remove the candle cover screws (4)�

2� Remove the ground nut�

3� Mount the Candle with two UNC 8-32 screws�

4� Connect the Candle to Wiring Harness in the machine�

5� If equipped, secure Frame Ground (FG) wire of the Candle

with the M3 nut�

6� Install candle cover screw (4) (M3)�

7� Turn power on and verify that the Candle illuminates�

DROP BOX SWITCH CONNECTION

NOTE: The Drop Box Switch wiring is typically used

ONLY when the machine is not connected to a slot

accounting system.

1� Open the Main Deck Door�

2� Locate the connector labeled DROP (on the main cabinet

harness)�

3� Connect the optional Drop Switch Harness (P/N 110324)�

4� Connect the three spade connectors to the Drop Switch�

CheCk drop box SWitCh operationS

If any of the following problems arise after turning the power

on, check that the Drop Box Switch is installed properly�

• The 031 DROP DOOR ACCESSED error message is

not displayed even after the power is turned on again

with the drop-door closed�

• The 041 DROP DOOR PORT error message is

displayed�

• No error messages appear when the Sub Panel is

opened and closed�

A Drop Door open accessed error can be detected even with

the power turned off� Reset the error and turn the power on

to check that the switch is installed correctly�

The Slot Accounting System (SAS) communication with the

video gaming machine takes place via interface connectors

located on the Backplane board in the Logic Unit box and

through settings in the Konami Maintenance System (KMS)�

The SAS components are mounted on a removable bracket

installed on top of the box� Use the following illustration to

remove and install the bracket�

2� Remove four 8-32 nuts holding the Player Tracking Panel�

3� Remove Player Tracking Panel from Main Deck�

2� Secure with four 8-32 nuts screws�

3� Power on the unit and close Main Deck Door�

When ber optic communication lines are used, they are rst

routed to the SAS Unit mounted in the machine� The SAS

Unit is equipped with two input and two output ber optic

receptacles� The SAS unit is also equipped with a serial input/

output connector and attached wiring, the output of which is

connected to the CNB35 port on the Backplane board�

This section describes the procedure for installing the cabinet

and setup of the initial settings of the equipment�

OPENING AND CLOSING THE DOORS

Main deCk door

1� To open the Main Deck Door, insert Main Deck Door Key

into Key Cylinder underneath the Main Deck�

2� Turn key 90° clockwise while simultaneously applying

pressure on the surface of Main Deck Door�

3� Pull pin button with key turned�

4� Open Main Deck Door�

6� Turn key 90° counter-clockwise and remove from cylinder�

1� To open the Logic Unit Door, insert the Logic Unit Door

key into the cylinder on the front of the Logic Unit�

2� Turn the key 90° counter-clockwise�

3� Open the Logic Unit Door by pulling the Logic Door toward

you and up to clear the mounting tabs�

4� To close the Logic Unit Door, insert the Logic Unit Door

tabs into the slots and pivot into the locking position�

5� Turn the Logic Door key 90° clockwise�

6� Remove the Logic Unit Door key from the cylinder�

clockwise�

2� Door will swing down�

3� Close Cashbox Door by lifting door closed and turning

key 90° clockwise�

6� Remove the Bill Stacker Door key from the cylinder�

WARNING: The display has a maximum weight of 61lb

(27.6 kg). At least 2 people, one on each side, must

handle the display when removing or installing it.

2� Pull the T-Handle to release the display�

3� Pull out the LCD from the bottom and lower the LCD

retaining bar�

4� Remove the HW #8-32 nuts for the Ground Straps (qty

2) behind the LCD�

5� Disconnect all cables from behind�

6� Remove the LCD by lifting upward and toward the front

of the cabinet�

WARNING: The display has a maximum weight of 61lb

(27.6 kg). At least 2 people, one on each side, must

handle the display when removing or installing it.

1� Hang the LCD onto the top mounting bracket�

2� Reconnect all cables�

3� Install the HW #8-32 nuts for the Ground Straps (qty 2)

on the LCD�

4� Raise the LCD retaining bar� Push back the LCD from the

bottom unit until the Rotary Latch locks in place�

5� Close the Main Deck Door�

TOPPER REMOVAL (OPTIONAL)

WARNING: The display has a maximum weight of 17 lb

(7.71 kg). You should consider employing the help of a

second person.

1� Remove Display per display removal instructions�

2� Remove Cable cover plate�

3� Remove Topper back cover�

4� Disconnect all cables�

5� Disconnect ground strap�

6� Remove HW Qty 4 – 1/4-20 Nylon nuts behind the topper�

TOPPER INSTALLATION (OPTIONAL)

4� Install new Key Cylinder�

5� Secure with 3/4-28 UNF nut�

6� Install cam and 9/32-28 UNF nut on shaft�

1� Open Main Deck Door�

2� Open Logic Unit Door�

3� Replace lock�

4� Turn the key 90° counter-clockwise to open the Logic Unit

Door, then return the key to the original position�

5� Make sure that the lock is installed properly by locking

and unlocking the door�

If any of the following problems arise before turning on the

power, check that the key works properly for the installed lock�

• You cannot easily open or close the door�

• You cannot remove or turn the key�

If the 012 LOGIC DOOR OPEN message appears after turning

on the power, check that the above Door Lock procedure was

performed properly�

The probable causes of the error are:

• The lock is not installed properly�

• The logic door switch is not depressed completely�

If the 032 LOGIC DOOR ACCESSED message appears after

turning on the power, turn the Reset Key Switch�

return it to the original position�

4� Make sure that the lock is installed properly by opening

and closing the door�

If any of the following problems arise before turning on the

• You cannot easily release or engage the door�

• You cannot easily open or close the door�

• You cannot remove or turn the key�

If the MAIN DOOR OPEN message appears after turning the

power on, check that the above procedure was performed

properly�

The probable causes of the error are:

• The lock is not installed properly�

• The Sub Door Switch is not depressed completely�

If the MAIN DOOR ACCESSED message appears after

turning the power on, turn the Reset Key Switch�

Switch, refer to the Door section in the KP3�5 Setup Manual,

NOTE: Remove the spacer for a short lock. Retain the

spacer and other small parts for future use if not required

for this application.

turning the power on, turn the Reset Key Switch�

The Bill Acceptor either accepts or rejects bills inserted into

the Bill Validator Module (Bill Head)�

Accepted bills are transported to the Cash Cassette, and an

appropriate number of credits registered on the Credit Meter�

For example, an accepted U�S� $1 bill shows as four credits

on a machine with a denomination of 25 cents� Rejected bills

are returned to the player�

• Remove the bill validator module (refer to Section 3 -

Assemblies, Parts & Hardware)�

ColleCting billS

When the Bill Stacker is full, the BILL STACKER FULL

message appears� This suspends the game until the bills

are collected� Please note that bills should be collected

periodically before the Bill Stacker becomes full�

1� Open the Cash Box Door�

2� Open the Bill Stacker Door�

3� Pull out the Bill Stacker�

4� Unlock the locks in two places on the back of the Bill

Stacker at the same time and remove the bills�

5� Install the Bill Stacker in the Bill Validator unit�

6� Close the Bill Stacker Door and Cash Box Door�

7� Turn the Reset Key Switch to recover from the error�

CaShbox door loCk

1� Open the Cashbox Door�

2� Replace the Lock�

3� Turn the key 90° counter-clockwise to open the Cashbox

Door then return it to the original position�

4� Open and close the Cashbox Door to ensure the lock is

properly installed�

If any of the following problems arise before turning the power

on, check that the key works properly for the installed lock�

• You cannot easily release or engage the door�

• You cannot easily open or close the door�

• You cannot remove or turn the key�

If the CASH BOX OPEN message appears after turning the

power on, make sure that the above procedure was performed

properly�

The probable causes of the error are:

• The lock is not installed properly�

• The door switch is not depressed completely�

If the SUB DOOR ACCESSED message appears after turning

the power on, turn the Reset Key Switch�

Each SPIN button can act as a REPEAT BET button� After

the player selects the number of lines, the credits wagered

per line activates the game� Pressing either SPIN button then

activates the next game�

Accepts paper currency and converts it into credits according

to the denomination of the machine� If a player inserts a $20

bill, and the denomination of the machine is 5 cents, the

machine displays 400 credits on the credit meter�

The LCD displays animations, bonus games, and bonus pays

to the player� It is also accesses the KMS to display game

information, audit information, log les, game recall les, event

info les, and system info les. It is also displays diagnostic

screens and game test screens� All touch-based controls are

on the Touch Dash Panel�

ServiCe button

The SERVICE Button is used to illuminate the upper Signal

Tower light with a steady ash, indicating to the operator that

service is required at the machine�

CaShout button

The Cashout Button is used by the player to retrieve unused

credits from the machine� When pressed, the Hopper activates

the sound of dropping coins into the coin bowl, triggering an

attendant pay, printing a ticket or a combination of events�

SeleCt nuMber oF lineS buttonS

The SELECT LINE(s) Button allows the player to choose the

number of lines played�

SeleCt bet x per line buttonS

The Bet X Per Line Buttons allow the player to select the

number of credits played for each of the selected lines�

bet Max button

The BET MAX button wagers the maximum number of

credits for each time it is pressed� A credit equals the current

denomination times the maximum amount of coins that can

be bet (if the machine is optioned with a denomination of

50 cents, and the maximum number of coins is 45, the bet

max value would be $22�50)� When the BET MAX button is

pressed, the reels spin automatically�

STARTUP

Before plugging in the machine, check the following items�

• Check that the AC cord is not damaged�

• Check that the Power Switch is in the OFF position�

• Check that fuses are not opened�

• Check that the AC cord is not strained (do not bend

the AC cord at a sharp angle, coil it, or weigh it down)�

• Make sure that no water is near the power supply�

• Check that no sparks, smoke, or ame are produced.

2� Note wire locations for installation and remove all wires

from the Switch�

3� Gently grasp the Switch behind the bracket, press in on

the side tabs, and then push the Switch forward�

1� Push the new Switch into Mounting Bracket until two tabs

on the Switch seat in place�

2� Connect wires to terminals�

3� Close and lock the Main Deck Door�
