SAFE
OPERATION
Mostbackhoeequipmentaccidentscanbeavoidedbyfollowingsimplesafetyprecautions.
Thesesafetyprecautions,iffollowedatalltimes,willhelpyouoperateyourbackhoesafely.
BEFORE
OPERATINGBACKHOE
1.
Knowyourequipmentandits limitations.Allowonly
trainedpersonneltooperateorservicethisequipment.
Readandunderstandallinstructionsandprecautions
inthismanualbeforeserviceoroperation.
Alsoreadandunderstandallinstructionsand
precautionsfoundinthetractorandloaderoperator's
manualsbeforeusingthisequipment.
2.
Forsafeoperation,checkthemountingboltsfor
tightnessandthatthemountleversareintheright
positionbeforeoperation.
3.Neveroperatetractorwithbackhoeattachedand
loaderremoved.
4.
Checkforburiedmaterialsuchaselectncal,
telephone,gasandwaterlines.Whenindoubt,
contactlocalutilitycompaniesfortheirburiedlocation
priortooperatingthebackhoe.
5.Replaceanysafetydecalthatbecomesdamaged,lost
orillegible.Alsorenewalldecalswhenrepainting.
OPERATINGTHEBACKHOE
1.
Donotallowanyoneotherthantheoperatoronthe
unitwhileinoperationortransport.
2.
Usecarewhenoperatingonslopestoavoidtip-over.
Travelata speedcompatiblewithsafeoperation,
especiallywhenoperatingonuneventerrain,crossing
ditchesorwhileturning.
3.Operatethebackhoefromthebackhoeoperator'sseat
only.
4.
Whenusingonslopes,onestabilizermaybelower
thantheother.Useextremecareduhngexcavationas
riskoftip-overwillincrease,
5.Whendiggingona hillside,alwaysdumpthebucketon
theuphillsideofexcavation.
6.Toreducetheriskoftip-overona slope,placethe
spoiltothehighsideoftheexcavation.
7.Donotdigunderthestabilizerortractor,especiallyin
softorsandyconditions.Takeextraprecautioninwet
orthawingground.
Undertheseconditionsthegroundcanbecome
unstableandmaycollapseundertheweightofthe
machineandmaycausetheunittotipover.
8.Neveroperatethemachineoranyequipmentwhile
undertheInfluenceofalcoholorotherdrugs,orwhile
fatigued,
9.Whenleavingthemachineunattended,besureto
lowerthebackhoetotheground.Settheparking
brake,
thenshuttheengineoffandremovethekey.

FORCHILDREN
Tragicaccidentscanoccuriftheoperatorisnotalertto
thepresenceofchildren.Childrenaregenerallyattracted
tomachinesandtheworkbeingdone.Neverassume
childrenwillremainwhereyoulastsawthem.

Keepchildrenoutoftheoperatingareaandunderthe
watchfuleyeofanotherresponsibleadult.
2.
Bealertandturnthemachineoffifchildrenenterthe
workarea.
3.Beforeandwhenbacking,lookbehindanddownfor
smallchildren.
4.
Nevercarrychildrenwhileoperatingthemachine.
Theymayfalloffandbeseriouslyinjuredorinterfere
withsafeoperationofthemachine,
5.Neverallowchildrentoplayonthemachineor
attachmentevenwhenturnedoff,
6.Neverallowchildrento operatethemachineeven
underadultsupervision.
7.Useextracarewhenapproachingblindcorners,
shrubs,trees,orotherolsstructionsthatmighthide
childrenfromsight.
DRIVING
THETRACTORONTHEROAD
1.
Raiseandcentertheboom,closethedipperstick,curl
thebucketandengagetheboomandswinglocks
beforetransportingthemachine.
2.
Checkthelocalcodesorregulationsthatmay applyto
tractor/ loader/ backhoeoperationonpublicstreetsor
highways,beforetransportingortraveling.UseSMV
emblemandwarningflashers asrequired.
