Mounting
The depth sounder can be mounted in any convenient location
which hasaflatsurface.Thesdjustable yoke lJerlnitsmounting on
either a bottom Or an overhedd supporting surface.
Iftheunit istobelocatedin the
vicinity
ofamagneticcompass,runit
fri position temporarily to makesure it does not affect coimpass
readings. If compass heading changes, choose an alternate
position.
Jote: Theunitmustberunning when
youmakethistest.Four holes
• in the base of the yoke allow either wood screw or bolt
mounting.

12-volt DCpowerfortheLFG-460 issuppliedfromthe boat's12-volt
electricalsystem.Powerconnections should be run directly to the
battery
terminals.Do notpickuppowerfromsomeothei accessory
because thismaycause electrical interference in the unit.
A 3-ampere fuseshould be located inthe ±(positive) connecting
lead aaclosetothebatteryas possible.

Theunitjsprotectedfromaccidental polarity reversalandnodam-
age willresult ifbatteryconnections are wrong. (However, the unit
willnotwork.)
Ifthepower cable istoolong, cutofftheexcess. Do notcoil it up
because thismaycauseelectrical noise pick-up. Ifthecable isn't
longenough, useordinary#18lampcordavailableatanyhardware
store. Splicesshould be soldered. Ifthis can'tbedone, use twist-
typesold;erlsss connectors.Simplytwisting ofsplices may resultin
intermittent powerconnectionswhichcancauseinterference.Tape
illsplices with Plastictape. .
TRANSDUCER SELECTION
Sixtransducer models areavailableforusewiththeLF-46O.Any
Lnitcanheused interchangeably
withany otherunit.Noretuningof
the indicator isneeded, regardlessofwhich transduceris used.

OPERATION OF THE LFG-460
Sensitivity and "ON"-"OFF"Knob:
The"Ol\l"-°OFP
sensitivity.knobisthesmall,bottom knob. ltoper-
ates Thamannersimilar to the volume control on a radio. Turning
theknobclockwisewillturntheuniton, adturning theknobbeck
thefullcounterclockwise positionwillturnthe unitoff.Turningthe
knob in a continued clockwise msnnerwill increasethe receiver
sensitivity and weaker echos from deeper water can and will be
observedon thedial.
After mounting thetransducer, turntheunit on byturningthesen-
sitivity knob clockwise.. You willsee theconstant surtace signal at
zero. Before long you will see snother signal — atten feAt ifthe
water is ten feet deep. The signal indicetes.thebottom. lt too,
should always s.how:
Continueturning
the
sensitivitycontroltowardtherightand yàuwill
see asecond bottom signal at double thedepth ofthefirst,or 20
feet.Thesound wavas have hitbottom, bouncedback, hitthesur-
face ofthewater, then bounced,
down and up again. Over a firm
bottom youcan incieasethesensitivityuntilthedialshowsthree or
fourbottomsignals at multiples ofthe true depth.
Thesensitivity isadjustableand youshould always setittoreturna
steady
bottom
signal—nearly
asbright asthezero
signal—regsid-
less ofdepth. Turnthekrob counterclockwisewhen you bginto
getthedouble signal;cjockcwisewhenthebottom signal be:ins to
fade.
Toshowfish,thesensitivitycontrol should besettoshow a
dftong
brightbottomsignal. .
RANGECONTROL
The range control (centerknob) iC used to select eitherthe 0-60'
range,
the0-1 80' range'ortbe0-SO
fathoms(360ft.)rangeasmarked
on thepanel.
Withthe'kncbinthe60' position,, the rahge should be read on the
outside 0-60' scale on the faceplate.In 'the 180' position, range
should be readontheinside0-180' scale ofthefaceplate, With the
knobin the60fathom position,rangeshpuld hereadontheoutside
dial. (1 fathomisequal to 6feet.) ,
