SAFETYPRECAUTIONS
General precautions
In order to avoidhead,eye, handor foot injuries
as well as
to protectyour hearingthefollowingprotectiveequipment
must be used during operation of the Power Cut:
Thekindof clothingshouldbeappropriate, i. e. itshouldbetight-
fittingbutnotbeahindrance.Clothinginwhichgrainsof material
can accumulate(trouserswith cuffs,jackets and trouserswith
wide-openpockets,etc.) must not be worn, particularlywhen
cuttingmetal.
Do not wear any jewellery or clothing that can get caught or
distractfromtheoperationof the PowerCut.
It is necessaryto wear a protectivehelmetwheneverworking
withthePowerCut.The
protectivehelmet (A)istobechecked
inregularintervalsfordamageandistobereplacedafter5years
Theoperator MUST readthisowner’smanualtoensuresafe
operation (even if you already have experience in using
cutoff saws).
It isimportantto befamiliarwiththeoperationof
this particularcutoffsaw. Usersinsufficientlyinformedwill en-
dangerthemselvesaswellasothersdue to improperhandling.
Letonlypersonswhohaveexperienceinusingcutoffsawswork
withthis unit. When letting another personusethe PowerCut,
thisowner’smanualmustbeprovidedalongwith
it.
First-timeoperatorsshouldask a specialist to instructthem in
workingwithgasoline-poweredcutoffsaws.

Childrenandpersonsunder 18yearsof age mustnotbeallowed
to usethis PowerCut. Personsover the age of 16years may,
however,usethe PowerCutfor thepurposeof beingtrainedas
longastheyare underthesupervisionof aqualifiedtrainer.
Workingwiththe PowerCut requireshighconcentration.
Operatethe PowerCutonly
if youareingoodphysicalcondition.
If you are tired, your attention will be reduced. Be especially
carefulattheend of aworkingday. Performallworkcalmlyand
carefully.The user hastoacceptliabilityfor others.
NEVER usethe PowerCutwhileundertheinfluenceof alcohol
ordrugs!
A fire extinguishermust be available in the immediatevicinity
whenworkingineasilyinflammablevegetationorwhen ithasnot
rainedfor a longtime (dangerof fire).
Asbestos andothermaterialsthatcanreleasetoxinsmaybecut
only after notificationof the properauthoritiesand undertheir
supervisionorthatof a personappointedbythem.

Always wearsafetyshoesor boots (G) withsteeltoes, non-skid
soles, and leg protectors when working with the Power Cut.
Safetyshoes equippedwith aprotective layer provideprotection
against cuts and ensure a secure footing.
Always wear a
work suit (H) of sturdy material.

Fuels / Refuelling
Go to a safe place before refuelling. Never refuel while on
scaffolding,on heaps of material,or in similar places!
Stopthe engine before refuelling the Power Cut.
Do notsmoke or work near openfires (6).

Let the engine cool down before refuelling.

Fuelscancontainsubstances similar tosolvents. Eyesandskin
shouldnotcomeincontactwithmineraloilproducts.Alwayswear
protective gloves when refuelling (notthe regularworkgloves!).
Frequentlycleanandchange protective clothes.
Do notbreathe
infuelvapors.
Do not spill fuel. If a spill occurs, clean off the Power Cut
immediately.Fuelshouldnotcomeincontactwithclothes. Ifyour
clothes have come in contact with fuel, change them at once.
Ensurethatnofuel orchainoiloozes intothesoil (environmental
protection). Usean appropriate base.
Refuelling is not allowed in closed rooms. Fuel vapors will
accumulate nearthefloor (explosion hazard).
Ensureto firmly tighten the screw plug
of thefuel tank
Before starting theengine, moveto a location at least
10 feet (3
meters)from where youfuelledthe PowerCut (7), butnotwithin
theextendedswingrangeof thecuttingdisc(directionof sparks)
Fuelcannot bestoredforanunlimited periodof time. Buyonlyas
much as will beconsumed inthe nearfuture
Whenmakingupthegasolineloil mixture,always puttheoilinthe
mixing container

Useonly approved and marked containers for the transport and

storage of fuel.

Do notworkonyour own.Theremustbesomeonearoundin
case of anemergency.
Observe all anti-noise regulations when working in residential
areas.
Never use the Power Cut near inflammable materials or
explosivegases!ThePowerCutcancreatesparksleadingto
fire orexplosion!
Make sure that all persons within 100 feet (30 meters), such as
other workers, are wearing protective gear (see "Protective
Equipment")
(8). Children and other unauthorized persons must
remainmorethan
100 feet awayfrom the workingarea. Keepan
eye out for animals as well
(9).
Before starting work the Power Cut must be checked for
perfect function and operating safety according to the
prescriptions.
Inparticular the condition of the cutting disc (cracked, damaged,
or bent cutting discs must be replaced immediately), proper
mountingof thecuttingdisc, propermountingof
the V-belt guard,
correct V-belt tension, ease of motion of the throttle lever and
functioning of the throttle lever lock, clean and dry handles, and
functioning of the onloff switch.
Putthe Power Cut only into operation
if it iscompletely assem-
bled. Never use the Power Cut when it is not completely
assembled.

Cutoffdiscs

There aretwo basic types of cutoff discs:
- Formetal(hotcutting)
- Formasonry (coldcutting)
-
NOTE:
Whenusingdiamondcutoff discs, always makesuretoobservethe
"directionof rotation"markings. Diamonddiscsshouldbeusedonly
for cutting metal.
- Cutoff discs are intended only for radial loading, i.e. for cutting.
Never usethe side of the disc for grinding
(1 O)!
Caution!

Never change direction (turning radius less than 16.5 feet
(5 meters), exert lateral (sideways) pressure, or tip the Power
Cutduring cutting
(1 l)!
- Useacuttingdisconly for cuttingthe materials it isintendedfor.
The proper type of disc must be used, for either metals or
masonry.
Thearbourhole(bore)of thecuttingdiscmustfittheshaftexactly.
If the arbour hole islarger thanthe shaft diameter, aspacer ring
mustbeused.
Useonly cuttingdiscs approved bythe DSA (German Abrasive
DiscCommittee)
or equivalentorganizationforfreehand cutting
at up to
4370 RPM for 14" (350 mm) discs (= 80 m/sec. at
circumference) or upto 51 00 RPMfor 12"(300 mm)discs (= 80
mlsec.).

- Thedisc mustbefreeof defects (1 2). Makesurebysoundtesting
with a pieceof wood.
Do not usedefective cuttingdiscs.
Alwaystighten the cutting disc mountingbolt to atorque of 30
Nm.Otherwise,the cutting disc cantwist.
Before starting the Power Cut, make sure you have a steady
footing.
PutthePowerCutintooperationonlyasdescribed inthisowner's
manual
(13). Placeyourrightfoot intherearhandleandgraspthe
other handle firmly (with thumb and fingers). Other starting
methodsare notallowed.
When starting the Power Cut it must be well supported and
securely held.The cuttingdisc must notbetouching anything.
If thecuttingdisc is new,test itby running itat least
60 seconds
attopspeed.Whendoingthis,makesurethatnopersonsorbody
parts are inthe extended swing range of the disc, incase it is
defectiveandflies apart.
When working with the Power Cut always hold it with both
hands.
Takethe back handlewith the righthandandthetubular
handle with the left hand. Hold the handles tightly with your
thumbs facing yourfingers.
CAUTION: When you release the throttle leverthe disc will
keepspinningforashort periodof time
(free-wheelingeffect).
Continuously ensurethat you haveasafefooting.
Holdthe PowerCut suchthat youwill notbreatheintheexhaust
gas. Do not work in closed rooms or in deep holes or ditches
(dangerof poisoning by fumes).
Switch off the Power Cut immediately if you observe any
changes initsoperating behavior.
Always switch the engine off before checking the V-belt
tension, tightening the V-belt, changing the cutting disc,
repositioningthecutter attachment
(sideor middle), ordoing
any work onthe Power Cut
(14).
Turnoffthe engine immediatelyandcheckthedisc ifyouhearor
feel anychange incutting behaviour.
Turnoffthe PowerCutwhentakingabreakorstoppingwork
(1 4).
Placetheunitinsuchawaythatthedisc isnottouching anything
andcannot endanger anyone.
Do not put the overheated Power Cut in dry grass or on any
inflammable objects.The muffler isvery hot (dangerof fire).
IMPORTANT: After wet cutting, first turn off the water feedand
thenletthedisc runatleast
30 seconds,tofling offthe remaining
water and preventcorrosion.

Kickbackandlock-in
Whenworkingwith the Power Cutthere isa danger of kickback
and lock-in.
Kickback occurs when the top of the cutting disc is used for
cutting (15).
This causes the Power Cut to bethrown back toward the user
with great force and out of control. Risk of injury!
To prevent kickback, observe the following:
Nevercutwith the sectionof thecuttingdisc shown infigure 15.
Be especially careful when reinserting the disc into cuts
that have already been started!
Lock-inoccurswhenthe cut narrows(crack,orworkpiece under
stress).
This causes the Power Cut to suddenly jump forward, out of
control and with great force.
Risk of injury!
To prevent lock-in, observe the following:
When reinserting the disc into previous cuts, have the Power
Cut runningat top speed. Always cut at top speed.
Always support the workpiece so that the cut is under tension
(1 6), so thatthecutdoes notpresstogether andjam the cutting
disc as it proceedsthrough the material.
When starting a cut, apply the disc to the workpiece with care.
Do notjust shove it into the material.
Never cut more than one piece at a time! When cutting, make
sure that noother workpiece comes into contact.
Working behavior / Method of working
-
Onlyusethe Power Cut during goodlight andvisibility periods.
Beaware
of slippery or wet areas, and of ice and snow (risk of
slipping).
Neverwork on unstable surfaces. Make sure that there are no
obstaclesinthe working area, riskof stumbling.Always ensure
that you have a safe footing.
Never cut above your shoulder height (17).
Never stand on a ladder to cut (17).
Never usethe Power Cut while standing on scaffolding.
Do notleanover too far when working.Whenputtingdownand
picking upthe Power Cut, do not bendover from the waist, but
instead bend in the knees. Save your back!
Guidethe PowerCut insuch a way that nopart of your body is
within the extended swing range of the disc (18).
Use cutting discs only for the materials for which they are
designed!
Use cutting discs only for the materials for which they are
designed. Donot usethe Power Cutto lift upandshovel away
pieces of material and other objects.
Important! Beforecutting, removeall foreign objects, such as
rocks,gravel, nails etc. from the cutting area. Otherwise, such
objects can beflung away bythe disc with great speed.
Injury
hazard!
When cutting workpieces down to length use a firm support. If
necessary, secure the workpiece from slipping, but do not
steady it with your foot or allow another person to hold it.
Whencuttingrounditems,alwayssecurethem against rotation.
When guiding the Power Cut by hand, use the side mounting
position
of the cutter attachmentonlywhenactually necessary.
Otherwise, always usethe central position. This gives the unit
a better balance, for reduced operator fatigue.

Cutting metals
IMPORTANT!
Alwayswear approvedrespiratoryprotection!
Materialsthat can release toxic substances may be cut only
afternotifyingthe properauthoritiesandundertheirsupervi-
sion or that of apersonappointedbythem.
CAUTION!
The rapidrotation of the cuttingdisc heats metaland melts
it
atthepointofcontact. Swingtheguardasfar downaspossible
behind the cut
(19) in order to direct the stream of sparks
forward, awayfromtheoperator (firehazard).
Determinethe direction of cutting, mark the cut and apply the
disc to the material at moderate speed, to cut a guide groove
before going to top speed and applying more pressure to the
Power Cut.
Keepthediscstraightandvertical. Donottipit,asthiscanbreak
it.
The best way to get a good, clean cut is to pull or move the
PowerCut backandforth.
Do notsimply pressthe disc intothe
material.
Thick round stock is best cut in stages
(20).
Thin tubing and pipescan be cut with a simple downwardcut.
Cutlarge-diameterpipesasfor roundstock.
To preventtipping
andfor bettercontrol,do notletthe disc sink toodeeplyintothe
material. Instead, always cut shallow aroundthe whole piece.
Worn discs have a smaller diameterthan new discs,
so that at
the same engine speed they have a lower effective circumfer-
ential speed and therefore do not cut as well.
Cut I-beamsand L-bars in steps; see Figure
21.
Cutbandsandplateslikepipes:alongthewidesidewithalong
cut.
When cutting material under stress (supported material or
material in structures), always make a notch in the thrust
(pressure)side, and then cut from the tension side,
so thatthe
disc does not lock in
(22).
CAUTION!
If there is a chance that the material
is under stress, be
preparedfor itto kick back. Makesureyoucan get out of the
way ifyou have to!
Be particularly careful in scrap-metal yards, junkyards, at
accident sites, and with haphazard pilesof material. Precari-
ously balanced pieces or pieces under stress can act in
unpredictableways, andmayslide, jumpout, orburst.Always
exercise extreme caution and use only equipment that is in
perfectworking order.
Observetheaccident-preventionrulesandregulationsofyour
employerandlor insuranceorganization.
Cuttingmasonryandconcrete
IMPORTANT!
Alwayswear approvedrespiratory protection!
Asbestos and other materials that can release toxic sub-
stancesmaybecutonlyafter notifyingtheproperauthorities
and under their supervision or that of a personappointed by
them. Whencuttingprestressedandreinforcedconcretepiles,
follow the instructionsand standards of the responsibleau-
thoritiesorthe builderofthestructural member.Reinforcement
rodsmustbecut
in theprescribedsequenceand in accordance
withapplicablesafetyregulations.
NOTE:
Mortar,stone,andconcretedeveloplargequantitiesof dustduring
cutting.
To increasethe lifetime of the cutting disc (bycooling), to
improvevisibility,andtoavoidexcessivedustcreation,westrongly
recommendwet cutting insteadof drycutting.

Inwet cutting, the disc is wetted at anequal rateon bothsides by
a trickle of water. MAKITA offers the right accessories for all wet
cuttingapplications(see
also "SPECIALACCESSORIES").
- Removeforeignobjects such as sand, stones and nailsfound
within the working area.
The rapid rotation of the cutting disc at the point of contact
throwsfragmentsout ofthecutgrooveathighspeed.Foryour
safety, swing the protection hood down as far as possible
behind the cut
(23), so that material fragments are thrown
forward, awayfromtheoperator.
- Markthe cut, andthenmakea groove about 5 mm (just under
1/5") alongtheentirelengthoftheplannedcut.This groovewill
then guidethe PowerCutaccuratelyguringtheactual cutoff.
NOTE:
Forlong,straightcutswe recommend usingatrolley(24,seealso
"SPECIALACCESSORIES").Thismakes itmucheasier
to guide
the unitstraight.

Performthe cut with a steady back-and-forthmotion.
Whencuttingslabstosize,you neednotcutthrough theentire
materialthickness (creating unnecessary dust). Instead,sim-
ply make a shallow groove, and then knock off the excess
material cleanly on a flat surface (25).
CAREFUL!
When cutting into lengths,cuttingthrough material, making cut-
outs,etc.,alwaysmakesure
to planthedirectionandsequence of
cutsinsuchaway thatthedisc doesnotgetjammed bythecut-off
piece,andthat nopersons canbeinjuredbyfalling pieces.
Transportandstorage
Always turn off the Power Cut when transporting it or
moving itfrom place to place on a site (26).
Nevercarryormovethe unitwith theengineonorthedisc
moving!
Carry the unit only by the tubular (middle) handle with the
cutting disc pointing behind
you (26). Avoid touching the
exhaust muffler (burn hazard!)
When moving the Power Cut over longer distances, use a
wheelbarrow or wagon. Avoid carrying the unit if possible.
When transportingthe Power Cut ina vehicle, makesure it is
securely positioned in such a way that
no fuel can leak out.
Always removethe cutting disc beforetransportingthe unit in
a vehicle.
The Power Cut should bestored safely in
a dry place. It must
not be left outdoors!Always dismount the cutting disc before
storage.
Before long-term storage and before shipping the Power
Cut, follow the instructions in the chapter on "Periodic
careand maintenance". ALWAYS emptythe fuel tank and
runthe carburetor dry.
When puttingcutting discs in storage, be careful to:
Clean and dry them well.
Storethemlyingdownflat.
Avoid dampness, moisture, high temperatures, and drastic
temperaturefluctuations.
Always check newcuttingdiscsor cutting discsthat have
been instoragetomakesure that they arefree of defects.

Maintenance
-
Beforeperformingmaintenanceworkswitch offthe Power
Cut
(27) and pull out the plug cap.
Alwayscheckthe PowerCut beforeusingit to makesurethat
it is in good working order. In particular, make sure that the
cutting disc is properly mounted.
Operatethe PowerCut only ata lownoiseandemissionlevel.
For this ensure the carburetor
is adjustedcorrectly.
Clean the Power Cut regularly.
Check the fuel tank cap regularlyfor good sealing.
Observe the accident prevention instructions issued by
tradeassociationsandinsurancecompanies.
NEVER make
any modifications to the Power Cut! You will only be
putting your own safety at risk!
Perform only the maintenanceand repair works described in
the owner’s manual. All other work must be carried out by
MAKITAService.
Use only original MAKITAspares and accessories.
The use of non-MAKITAspares,accessories,or cutting discs
increasesthe riskof accident.We cannot accept any respon-
sibility for accidents or damage occurring in association with
the use of cutting discs or accessories other than original
MAKITA.

Placethe PowerCut onastable surfaceandfollowthese steps
to install the drivearm andprotection hood:

Turnthetighteningscrew (B/4) totheleft(counter-clockwise)

TighteningtheV-Belt
IMPORTANT:
ExactV-belttension isessentialfor maximum cutting per-
formancewith minimumfuelconsumption.ImproperV-belt
tensionwillresultinprematurewear totheV-belt andV-belt
wheel or damagetothe clutch bearing.
Accurate adjustment of the V-belt tension requires thetension
gauge shown in Fig.
F. See under “Accessories” for the order
number.

Totighten the V-belt,turn the tightening screw (B/4) to the
right (clockwise) with the Allen key (1/13)includedwith the
PowerCut.

Tighten the retaining nuts (K/1) with the assembly tool
Pushthe handguard (W10)towardsthesprocket guardand
tighten screw (K/14).

- Turn the knob (GI11)(Model7000,7001) or the tightening
toggle (H/11) (Model

Unscrew the Allen screw (L/15) by turning it to the right
(clockwise),and removethe pressure disc (L/16).
Fitthe cutting disc (L/17) onto the shaft.

CAUTION: When usinga diamond cutting disc be sure to
mount it
so that itrotates inthe proper direction!

- Fit the pressure disc (M/16) on the shaft, observing the
flattened side of the shaft.
NOTE: The arbor hole of the pressure disc is shaped to fit the
shaft.Whenputtingthe pressurediscon theshaft,turn itslightly
untilitfits.
- Screw in the Allen screw (M/15) by turning it to the left
(counter-clockwise
- left-handthread!)andtighten byhand.
Slowly turn the cutting disc untilthe stop hole of the V-belt
wheel isvisible inthe drive-arm hole (M/18).
Pushthe assemblytool (M/19)
all theway intothestophole
of the V-belt wheel. The shaft isnow blocked.
Tighten the Allen screw with the Allen key (M/20).

Fuelmixture
The Power Cut is powered by a high-performance two-stroke
engine. It runson a mixtureof gasoline and two-stroke engine
oil.
Theengineisdesignedfor unleadedregulargasolinewithamin.

can usefuel with a higher octane value. This will not affect the
engine.
Inorderto obtainan optimumengineoutputandto protect
your health and the environment use unleaded fuel only.
GasolinewhichcontensalcoholshouldnotusedinMAKITA
products.
For lubricating the engine use a two-stroke engine oil (quality
grade:
TC-3), which isaddedto the fuel. The engine has been
designed for use of MAKITA high-performancetwo-stroke en-
gine oil and a mixture ratio of only 50:l to protectthe environ-
ment. Inaddition,a long service lifeand reliableoperationwith
a minimumemission of exhaust gases are ensured.
MAKITAhigh-performancetwo-strokeengine oil isavailable in
the following sizes to suit your individual requirements:

Mineral oil products degrease your skin. If your skin comes in
contactwith these substances repeatedlyand for an extended
period of time, it will desiccate. Various skin deseases may
result. Inaddition, allergic reactions are knownto occur.
Eyes can be irritated by contact with oil. If oil comes into your
eyes, immediatelywash them with clear water.
If your eyes are still irritated, see a doctor immediately!

Refuelling

combustion chamber that results from the first ignitions will

Adjusting the carburetor
NOTE:
The grinding parts are equipped with an electronic ignitionto limit the speed. The carburetor also has a fixed jet which
cannotbeadjusted.
At thefactory the idlingspeedhasbeensettoapprox.
2,300 l/min., butthe running-in process of anewengine mayrequire
slight readjustment of the idlingspeed.

Set the idling speedwith ascrewdriver (widthof blade: 4 mm).
Thescrewdrivershown (A/1)(ordernumber 944340001)hasa
molded-onlugtoassist inadjustment.
For correct adjustment
of the idling speed the following
stepsmust becarriedout:
1. Starttheengineand runit until
it iswarm (about 3 - 5 minutes).
2. Switchofftheengine. STOP

3. Removethe coverwith the airfilter.
- Unscrewthetwoscrews (B/2) totheleftandrightonthecover
(B/3).
CAREFUL! Thisexposesthecarburetor intake! Dustor
dirt particles that get into the carburetor can ruin the
engine! Makesure your clothing isfree of dust anddirt
particles, your tools are clean, andthe working area is
clean.
Do not lay a cloth or similar material on the
carburetor intakeopening!

If the cut-off disc isstillturningwhen the engine is running,
unscrew the adjusting screw of the throttlevalve (C/4)until
thecut-off disc is nolonger turning.Whenthe engine isleft

Nowthe acceleration from idling speedto maximum speed
mustbetestedbyabruptlyoperatingthethrottle lever.
If the
acceleration istooslow,theidlingspeedjetscrew(C/5)must
beloosenedslightly(max.1/8of arevolution)andthethrottle
valve adjusting screw (C/4)tightenedslightly.

If theenginecannot beadjusted as described under point
5, a basic adjustment must be carried out with the engine
switchedoff.

CAUTION:
Do not touch the spark plug or plug cap if the engine is
running (high voltage).
Switch off the engine before starting any maintenance
work.
A hot engine can cause burns. Wear protective gloves!
The spark plug must be replaced in case of damage to the
insulator, electrodeerosion (burn)or
if the electrodesare very
dirty or oily.
- Pull the plug cap (C/8) off the spark plug. Use only the
combination wrench supplied with the saw to remove the
spark plug.
Electrodegap
The electrode gap must be ,020" (0.5 mm).

Paper cartridge
The papercartridge(B/7)filterstheintakeairthroughaveryfine
paper filter laminate system. For this reason it must never be
washed.
Replacethecartridgeperiodically,andespeciallyincaseof poor
performance, reducedenginespeed,orsmokyexhaust.
- Before reassembling the filter system, check the intake
openingfor dirt particles, and removeanyfound.
CAUTION:
If the air filter becomesdamaged, replace immediately!
Pieces of cloth or large
dirt particles can destroy the
engine!
Checkingthe ignitionspark

Unscrew the wing-nut (D/I)and take off the air filter hood
(D/2).
Carefullypullthe papercartridgewithfoamprefilter(D/3)up
andoff.

"I" (ON) position.
Usinginsulatedpliers,pressthesparkplugwiththeplugcap
firmlyattachedagainstthescrewon thecover (notinthearea
aroundthespark-plug hole!).
Pullthe starter cable hard.

If the function is correct, an ignitionspark must be visible near
the electrodes.
CAUTION: Useonly BOSCHWSR 6F spark plug.

Replacingthesuctionhead
The felt filter (E/9) of the suction head can become clogged. It
is recommended to replace the suction head once every three
monthsinordertoensureunimpededfuelflowtothecarburetor.
- Empty fuel tank. To remove the suction head for replace-
ment, pull it out through the tank filler neck using a piece
of
wire bent at one end to form a hook.
Replacingthe starter cable
- Unscrewfourscrews(F/lO). Removethefanhousing(F/ll).
-
Remove all pieces of cable.
- Threadinanew cable(3/16"dia.x40"long(04x1000mm))
asshowninFig.G(don't forgetdiscG/12),andknottheends
asshown.
- Pull knot (G/13) into the cable pulley (G/14).
- Pull knot (G/15) into the cable grip (G/16).
- Guidethecableintothe recess(H/17)onthecabledrumand
usethecabletoturnthedrumtwoturnsinthedirectionshown
bythe arrow.
Holdingthe cabledruminyour lefthand,straighten out the
twistinthecablewithyour righthand,pullthecabletight,and
hold.
Release the cable drum.The drum's spring force will now
wind thecablearound the drum.
- Repeatthis procedure twice. Thestarter handle muststand
outfrom the fan housing.
NOTE: With the cable pulled all the way out, it must still be
possible to turn the pulley another 1/4turn against the return
spring.

CAUTION! Injuryhazard!Whenyoupulloutthestartercable
hold the starter handle firmly. It will whip back
if the cable
pulley
is released by accident.

Whenreplaceingfanhousing,itmaybenecessarytopullthe
starter cable lightly so that the cable pulley catches.

Replacingthe return spring

Remove the fan housing (see above under “Replacing the
starter cable”).
Take off circlip
(N1) (circlip pliers, see “Accessories”).
Remove the cable pulley
(A/2).
Unscrew screw (A/3) and carefully remove spring housing

CAUTION: Danger of injury! If the spring is broken it may
pop out!
NOTE:
The old spring should be recycled.

Hold the fan housing as shown in Fig. B and strike against
a suitable surface (e.g. old newspapers - the spring is
greasy!).
CAUTION: Danger of injury!Holdthefan housingfirmly so
thatthe oldspringpopsoutandcanrelaxitstensionsafely.
Replacement return springs come undertension in a wire ring.
Before installing, lightly grease the new spring with multi-
purpose grease, order
No. 944 360 000.
- With the spring still tight in the in wire ring, press it into the
fan housing. The wire ring will automatically bescraped off.
Turn the cable pulley slightly when putting it back on, until
you hear it catch. Putthe circlip back on.
Wind on the starter cable as described above under “Re-
placing the starter cable”.
Whenreplaceingfanhousing,itmaybenecessarytopullthe
starter cable lightly
so that the cable pulley catches.

central/sideposition
NOTE: The Power Cut isdelivered with thecuttingattachment
mounted in the middle position
(C). For cutting up against
