FREILANDTAUGLICHKEIT
Sehr geehrte Kunden, immer wieder errei-
chen uns Anfragen bezüglich „rostender
Schrauben“ bei Komponenten, die im
Außenbereich der alljährlichen Witterung
ausgesetzt sind. Zweckgemäß führen
Schraubklemmen und Schrauben eine
elektrische Spannung. In Verbindung mit
Feuchtigkeit aus Luft und Boden ndet bei
Anliegen einer Spannung eine elektroche-
mische Reaktion statt, die physikalischen
Gesetzen unterliegt. Das Auftreten von
sogenanntem Flugrost ist das Resultat und
nicht zu verhindern. Es behindert die Funk-
tion nicht. Sind die Komponenten Wasser
ausgesetzt, beschleunigt dies die Reaktion
deutlich. Wasser muss ungehindert abie-
ßen können. Steht die Elektronik im Was-
ser kann trotz vergossener Elektronik das
Wasser durch die Schraubklemmen ins
innere der Elektronik vordringen und damit
zum Totalausfall führen. Wir möchten Sie
darauf hinweisen, dass die Komponenten
so zu installieren sind, dass sie keiner
andauernden Feuchtigkeit ausgesetzt sind.
Ein Totalausfall auf Grund eines Wasser-
schadens ist kein Garantiefall.
SUITABILITY FOR OUTDOOR USE
Dear customer, we have received a
number of enquiries about rusty screws
in components that are used outside and
exposed to the elements. In this regard,
it is important to note that screws and
screw terminals are designed to be able to
carry an electrical current. When they are
exposed to moisture from the air and the
ground, an electrochemical reaction takes
place whenever a difference in electrical
potential is present. This leads to the
formation of a rust lm, which is a natural
physical process that cannot be prevented.
This rust lm does not interfere with the
proper functioning of the component.
When components are exposed to water,
the electromechanical reaction is ac-
celerated considerably. For this reason,
It is important to ensure that water ows
away freely from the components. Water
can seep into components through screw
terminals and soak the enclosed electron-
ics including those that are potted; water
seepage may lead to total equipment
failure. We would like to point out that
components should be installed in such a
way that they are not exposed to persistent
moisture. Total equipment failure due to
water damage is not covered under the
warranty.

3. Inbetriebnahme
Bauen Sie den Decoder sorgfältig
nach den Anschlussplänen in dieser
Bedienungsanleitung in die Lok
ein. Der Decoder ist generell gegen
Kurzschlüsse oder Überlastung
gesichert. Werden jedoch beim
Einbau Kabel vertauscht oder Kabel
verschiedener Funktionen kurzge-
schlossen, kann diese Sicherung
nicht wirken und der Decoder wird
zerstört.
3.1Gleisanschluss Analog oder Digital
Stecken Sie die 2 Stecker des
Soundmoduls auf die Stifte für die
Gleisanschlüsse Ihres Fahrdecoders
(Abb. 1+2). Sollte der Decoder
keine Stifte haben, schneiden Sie
die Faltstecker ab und isolieren Sie
die Kabel ab. Danach können Sie
das Soundmodul an die Stromver-
sorgung vom Gleis anschließen.
Ein Taktgeber ist optional, da der
Takt von dem eMOTION S erzeugt
werden kann. Dabei empfängt der
eMOTION S die Gleissignale. (Hier-
bei keine lastabhängige Steuerung.)

3. Hook-Up
Install your decoder in compliance
with the connecting diagrams in this
manual. The decoder is protected
against shorts and excessive loads.
However, in case of a connection
error e.g. a short between a light
and the motor, this safety feature
cannot work and the decoder will be
destroyed subsequently.
3.1Track Connection for Analog
and Digital Operation
Plug the two crimp connectors on
the pins for track power on the driv-
ing decoder (Illustr. #1+2).
In case the driving decoder does not
provide any pins, clip the connec-
tors and connect the wires to a
track power terminal. An external
pulse generator is optional as the
eMOTION S decoder is capable of
producing a pulse by itself.

3.2Anschluss mit SUSI Schnittstelle
Verbinden Sie wie in Abb. 3 gezeigt
Ihren Fahrdecoder (hier eMOTION
XL) mit dem eMOTION S Decoder
mit beiliegendem SUSI Adapter-
kabel. Voraussetzung dafür ist ein
Fahrdecoder mit SUSI Buchse. Das
Gleisanschlusskabel sollte dann ab-
geschnitten oder abgelötet werden.
Dies ist die optimalste Betriebsart,
da hierbei alle Fahrinformationen an
den S Decoder übertragen werden.
Die Betriebsart wird automatisch
erkannt. Sollte es mit der Erkennung
Probleme geben, kann die Betriebs-
art durch Programmierung von CV
240 = 2 fest eingeschaltet werden.
Bei SUSI Betrieb darf am S
Decoder kein Puffer angeschlossen
werden!
3.2Installation with SUSI Interface
Connect the driving decoder and the
S decoder with the SUSI adapter
cable as shown in illustration #3,
assuming that the driving decoder
features an SUSI interface.
In this case the track connection
wires are obsolete and should be
removed. This is the optimum way
to install the S decoder because
all driving data are transmitted to
the S decoder. The bus operation
mode is detected automatically. If
the bus autodetection does not work
properly it may be set manually with
CV 240 value 2.
When SUSI operated, no buf-
fers may be connected to the S
Decoder.

3.3Anschluss an MASSOTH/LGB-Bus
Mit speziellen Adapterkabeln kann
der eMOTION S z.B. auch mit LGB
Onboard Decodern verbunden wer-
den. (Art.Nr. 8312075 als Zubehör
erhältlich) Das Gleisanschlusskabel
muss abgeschnitten oder abgelötet
werden. (Abbildung 4) Bei Betrieb
über LGB Bus benötigen Sie einen
Taktgeber (Art.Nr. 8242030), da hier
die Fahrdaten nicht über den LGB
Bus übermittelt werden. Bei dieser
Betriebsart werden keine Fahrstufen
oder Fahrinformationen übertragen.
Hier muss CV 49 = 3 und CV 195 = 2
gesetzt werden. Sollte es mit der Er-
kennung Probleme geben, kann die
Betriebsart durch Programmierung
von CV 240 = 1 fest eingeschaltet
werden.
3.3Connection to MASSOTH/LGB-Bus
With a special adapter cable the
eMOTION S decoder may be con-
nected to LGB Onboard decoders.
(available as item #8312075).
The track power cables should
be removed when using the SUSI
connection (see illustration #4).
Operating with the LGB bus requires
an external pulse generator (item #
8242030) as the LGB bus does not
transmit driving information. In this
case CV 49 must be set to “3” and
CV 195 must be set to “2”. If the
bus autodetection does not work
properly it can be set manually with
CV 240 value 1.

3.4Lautsprecheranschluss
An die SPEAKER-Buchse (Abb. 5)
wird der Lautsprecher angeschlos-
sen.
3.5Einbauhinweise
Der Decoder kann mit Schrauben
oder doppelseitigen Klebepads
befestigen werden. Beachten Sie
hierbei unbedingt, das Sie mit dem
Schraubenkopf kein Kabel beschä-
digen! Achten Sie beim Befestigen
darauf, das kein Kurzschluss zu
anderen Teilen entsteht. Zusätzliche
Kabel für weitere Funktionen nur mit
einem kleinen Lötkolben anlöten um
Kurzschlüsse zu vermeiden. Ver-
tauschen Sie keine Anschlusskabel,
das kann zur Zerstörung führen! Die
Ränder können bei Bedarf abgebro-
chen werden.
3.4Connection of speaker
The loudspeaker is connected to the
SPEAKER-outlet (Illustration #5).
3.5Installation Notes
The decoder may be mounted with
the screws or with double-sided tape
provided. Don’t damage any cable
with the screw head! Caution: Make
sure that there is no short circuit
caused by the mounting screws.
Use a small soldering iron to prevent
short circuits with other electronic
components or solder pads. Do
not mix up the wires, this may lead
to severe damage or destroy the
decoder! To minimize the size of the
decoder the rims may be snapped
off

4. Erweiterte Einstellungen
4.1Anschlussbuchsen Oberseite
Auf der Oberseite des eMOTION
S Sound Decoders (Abb. 6) sind
vier zusätzliche Anschlussbuchsen
vorhanden. Takt 1 ist für einen
externen Taktgeberanschluss. An die
Lautsprecherbuchse wird der Laut-
sprecher angeschlossen. Bei Bedarf
kann ein externer Potentiometer
(Art.-Nr. 8242010) zur Lautstärke-
regelung angeschlossen werden.
Die SUSI-Buchse ist vorgesehen für
einen Busanschluss ausschließlich
zum Datenempfang.
4.2Anschlussächen Unterseite
Auf der Unterseite des eMOTION S
(Abb. 7) sind zusätzliche Anschlüsse
angebracht. Es handelt sich dabei
um Lötkontakte. Der Gleisanschluss
ist mit einem Kabel versehen.
4. Advanced settings
4.1Connectors on the Upper Surface
The eMOTION S Sound Decoder fea-
tures four additional connectors on
the upper side (see illustration #6).
Clock 1 is the connector for an ex-
ternal pulse generator. The Speaker
connector connects a loudspeaker
and the Poti connector connects an
external potentiometer (4.7K Ohms)
to facilitate manual volume control.
A potentiometer board is available
with item # 8242010. The SUSI-
connector is provided to receive
only data.
4.2Connectors on the lower surface
Solderable contacts (Illustr. #7) are
located on the lower side of the
eMOTION S Sound Decoder. The
track power terminals are already
furnished with cables.

4.3Licht- und Funktionsausgänge
Der eMotion S Decoder verfügt über
3 Licht- und Funktionsausgänge. A7
kann als Funktionsausgang oder als
Steuerausgang für Servos verwendet
werden. Beachten Sie den maxima-
len Strom für die Ausgänge:
A3 = 50 mA / A7+8 = je 10mA
4.4Taktgebereingang
Takt 1 ist für einen externen
Taktgeberanschluss. Benutzen Sie
hierzu immer unseren Taktgeber
(Art.Nr. 8242030). Takt 2 ist für
einen zweiten Taktgeber, z.B. bei
Zahnradlok Ballenberg. Hier kann,
wie in Abb. 9 ein Reedschalter als
Taktgeber verwendet werden. Die
Anschlussbuchse Takt 1 ist parallel
mit den Lötächen Takt GND/Takt 1/
Takt +. Niemals Takt 1 Buchse und
Takt 1 Lötanschlüsse gleichzeitig
benutzen!
4.3Light and function outputs
The eMOTION S decoder features
3 light/function outputs. A7 may be
used as a regular function output
or as control output for RC servos.
Mind the maximum Amperage of the
outputs:
A3 = 50mA/ A7+A8 = 10mA each
4.4Pulse generator input
Clock 1 is the connector for an
external pulse generator. Always
use our pulse generator (item #
8242030). Clock 2 is the connector
for a second pulse generator, e.g.
for cog wheel steam loco Ballenberg.
A reed switch (illustr. # 9) can be
used as generator input in this case.
Terminal clock1 is parallel to clock
GND/clock1/clock+.
Do not use the terminal clock1 and
the solder pads for clock1 at the
same time!

4.5Potentiometeranschluss

4.6Reedkontakte zum Auslösen von
Glocke und Pfeife mit Gleismagnet
Möchten Sie die Auslösung eines
Sounds durch Gleismagnete nutzen,
so können bis zu zwei Reedkontakte
(potentialfrei) über die Reedkontakt
Anschlüsse des eMOTION S Sound
Decoders gegen GND angeschlossen
werden (Abb. 11). In der CV-
Konguration legen Sie fest, welche
Geräusche beim Schalten der Reed-
kontakte ausgelöst werden sollen.
4.6Reed contacts to trigger bell and
whistle by track magnets
You may utilize up to two reed
contacts to trigger sounds with track
magnets. The CV conguration de-
nes which sound is to be triggered
by which reed contact. (Illustr. #11)
A special feature is the possibility
to trigger a sound depending on the
driving direction

5. Inbetriebnahme
Das Konzept des eMOTION S Deco-
ders legt großen Wert auf einfache
Einbau- und Anschlussmöglichkei-
ten, daher wird er mit abbrechbarer,
beschrifteter Leiste ausgeliefert. Er
ist bereits mit passenden Anschluss-
kabeln ausgestattet, so dass am

5. Getting started
eMOTION S decoders are designed
for easy handling and installation. To
make them t into most of all types
of locomotives most of the Massoth
eMOTION decoders may be reduced
in size by detaching parts of the
decoder, e.g. mounting holes or the
ledges that carry the labeling of the
terminals. The small decoders come
pre-wired. Soldering is not required.
Please nd detailed wiring diagrams
in the rst section of this manual.
5.1Basic factory default settings
This table shows the basic factory

5.2Programmierung
Es gibt einige CVs, die besonders
wichtig sind, und richtig eingestellt
sein sollten, damit ein einwandfreier
Betrieb sichergestellt ist. Auf den
folgenden Seiten werden essentielle
CVs mit deren Bedeutung und Ein-
stellungsmöglichkeiten erläutert.
WICHTIGER HINWEIS
ZUR PROGRAMMIERUNG
Für die Programmierung muss der De-
coder über die beiden Anschlusskabel
mit dem Gleis verbunden sein. Eine
LED quittiert dabei den Program-
mierprozess. Bei älteren Decodern
muss für die Programmierung ein
Lautsprecher angeschlossen sein,
weil die Programmierbestätigung über
einen Signalton erfolgt.
5.3Programmiersperre CV 15 / 16
Um ein versehentliches Program-
mieren zu verhindern ist in CV 15
und 16 eine Programmiersperre
realisiert. Nur wenn CV 15 = CV
16 entspricht, kann man CV Werte
verändern. Ist CV 15 ≠ CV 16, ist die
Programmiersperre aktiv. Der Wert
in CV 16 sollte nicht geändert wer-
den. So ist es jederzeit möglich CV
Werte auch im eingebauten Zustand
mit anderen Decodern zu ändern.
Standardwert CV 15/ CV 16 = 145.
5.2Programming

importance to ensure a awless
operation. The following sections
explain the functions and settings of
several important CVs.
IMPORTANT NOTE FOR
PROGRAMMING
All CVs may be programmed if the
eMOTION S decoder is connected to
the track separately. A LED shows the
programming activity. Older Decoders
have to be connected to a loudspeaker
as the eMOTION S decoder delivers
blips as programming conrmation.
5.3Programming Lock CV 15 / 16
To prevent unintentional program-
ming this sounddecoder offer a
programming lock in CV 15 / 16. If
CV 15 matches CV 16 programming
is possible. If CV 15 ≠ CV 16 the
programming lock is active. We rec-
ommend to not change the value of
CV 16. This allows to alter CV values
anytime even when the decoder is
installed with other decoders. The
standard value of CV 15 / 16 = 145.
If the programming lock is active

Sollte die Programmiersperre aktiv
sein und Sie wissen den Wert von
CV 16 nicht mehr, so können Sie
mit CV 7 = 55 den Decoder auf die
Grundwerte zurücksetzen.
Nach erfolgreicher Einstellung
Ihres S-Decoders unbedingt die
Programmiersperre setzen!
5.4Programmieradresse CV 107 / 108
Diese Adresse wird benötigt um
den Decoder später im eingebauten
Zustand (mit weiteren Decodern)
programmieren zu können. Die Pro-
grammieradresse muss im Bereich
von 128-10239 liegen! Sie darf nicht
identisch mit der Lokadresse sein.
Die Berechnung ist identisch zu CV
17 / CV 18. Der Standardwert ist
Adresse 320.
5.5Lokadresse
Wird der eMOTION S Decoder in
Verbindung mit anderen Decodern
verwendet, muss die Programmie-
rung der Adresse vorab erfolgen.
Eine komfortable Programmierung
der Lokadresse samt aller not-
wändigen CV‘s ist mit dem DiMAX
Navigator möglich.
Man unterscheidet wie folgt:
• kurze Lokadresse 1...127 in CV 1,
beachten Sie CV 29 / BIT5 = ‚aus‘
• lange Lokadresse 128...10239
and you do not remember the value
of CV 16, you may reset the decoder
with CV 7 = 55 to its factory default
settings.
After programming the decoder
it is absolutely recommended to
activate the programming lock.
5.4Programming Address CV 107 / 108
The programming address is used to
programm the decoder after instal-
lation (when other decoders are in-
stalled). The value span ranges from
128-10239! It may not be indentical
to the locomotive address. Address
calculation is identical to CV CV 17 /
18. The standard value is 320.
5.5Locomotive address
In case the eMOTION S decoder is
used in connection with third party
decoders, the address must be pro-
grammed separately. A comfortable
way of programming including all
affected CVs can be performed with
the DiMAX Navigator.
A distinction is drawn between:
• short addresses (1...127) in CV 1
(CV 29 - Bit 5 has to be deactivated)
• long addresses (128...10239)

6. Anschluss und Funktion
6.1Licht- und Funktionsausgänge
Die Licht- und Funktionsausgänge
können frei programmiert werden.
(Zuordnung der Funktionstaste,
Richtungsabhängigkeit, Blink- und
Impulsfunktionen, Taktgeber).
Die Ausgänge können mit NMRA/
DCC-Befehlen oder mit serieller
LGB®-Pulskette gesteuert werden.
Ausgang 3 (CV 114) kann mit
verschiedenen Zeitfunktionen pro-
grammiert werden.
6.2Servofunktion
Ausgang 7 kann zur Steuerung eines
Servos genutzt werden. In CV 124
wird die Sondernutzung aktiviert. Mit
CV 125 + 126 wird der Drehbereich
festgelegt. In CV 127 kann die
Drehgeschwindigkeit beeinusst
werden. Zur Spannungsversorgung
des Servos nutzen Sie unseren 6V
Festspannungsregler (8242050).

6. Connections and Functions
6.1Light- and function outputs
The light- and function outputs are
freely programmable (key assign-
ment, directionality, ashing and
short term function, sound pulse
generator). The outputs may be con-
trolled with NMRA/DCC commands
or serial pulse strings. The output
3 (CV 114) may be programmed
for ashing operation (symmetric
and asymmetric ashing, timer
function).
6.2RC Servo function
Output 7 may be utilized to control
an RC servo. This function is
activated with CV 124. CV 125 and
CV 126 dene the turning range. In
CV 127 the servo speed is set. For
servo power supply we suggest to
use our 6V Fixed Voltage Regulator
(8242050).
