INSTALLATION OF CARDS: SIM1, SIM2 & microSD

5
SIM Card and SD Memory Card slots are located on the left
hand side of the unit. In order to install cards, first you need
to gently eject the metal tray.
Before you start installing cards, make sure the phone is
switched off and it is unplugged from the AC adapter and any
other accessories.
Place the tray on a flat surface, and position cards as
shown below:

6
Carefully reposition the tray with inserted cards into the
slot. After switching it on, the phone should automatically
detect cards. Remember: the hybrid slot accepts either two
SIM Cards or a single SIM Card and one microSD memory

7
card.
Be careful while using the memory card particularly while
inserting and uninstalling the card. Some memory cards
require to be formatted on the computer prior to an initial use.
If you use SD cards, on the regular basis make backup copies
of any data stored on cards used in other devices. Misuse or
other factors might cause damage or loss of entire data
stored on the card.
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS WHILE INSERTING CARDS
Switch off the phone, and wait few seconds before
inserting or uninstalling SIM (SD) card(s).
Be careful while handling the SIM (SD) card(s), neither
bend nor scratch them.
If the SIM Card is inserted incorrectly or it is damaged,
an error message will appear on the screen after switching it
on: No SIM card in the slot. Make sure the card is inserted
correctly, and it is not damaged, and then switch on the
phone again. If the device still does not detect the card, go to
your GSM provider for replacement.
If the SIM Card gets stuck in the slot, and removing it

8
seems to be impossible, do not force it, but ask the
authorized service for assistance. Any mechanical damage to
SIM (SD) slots shall not be covered under warranty repairs.
BATTERY INSTALLATION
MS553 device has a built-in battery in its case.
If the battery is damaged, the entire unit should be
shipped to authorized MAXCOM service. Any attempts by
unauthorized service or person to remove the battery will
void your warranty.
To reset the device (equivalent of removing the battery
for a while) press and hold (for about 10 seconds) ON/OFF
BUTTON (9).The unit will lose power for a while, and it will
automatically get switched on again.
CHARGING THE UNIT
Use only chargers and batteries provided by the Manufacturer.
Never use damaged chargers nor batteries. Such accessories
or modifications might damage the phone and void the
warranty.
If the battery is 15% charged, there will be a message on the
display advising you to charge the battery. To charge the

9
battery, plug the charger into a power outlet and into the
phone.
Remember! If the charger jack is incorrectly plugged into the
USB port (for example with the wrong ending), the unit might
get seriously damaged and such damage shall not be covered
under warranty.
Remember! If you use chargers from other manufacturers
make sure such a charger has a microUSB slot.
The icon on the display ( ) informs you about current level
of battery charge.
Charging the battery to full takes about 3-4 hours. You can use
the unit while charging, but in such a case charging might take
longer. It is normal for the unit to get warm.
Note!
While charging the phone, make sure the air temperature is
between 0°C to +40°C.
Batteries are the subject to degradation over time. Therefore,
their ability to hold the charge will become reduced.

10

The unit has options to help you to save the battery life. To
prolong life-time of the battery, enable such options and
disable features running in the background:

switch on/off the unit.
While using the unit for the first time, the unit should be
configured; to configure the unit, follow instructions as
displayed on the screen. First, configure the Internet
connection (via WiFi or data transmission) and the Google
account (Gmail).

11
Note!
To download an application from the „Play Store”, the
Google account must be configured. If the user has the
Gmail account, they might register their unit using this
address, without creating a new account.
If the SIM Card is protected by the PIN code, enter the PIN
code using the keyboard displayed on the screen, and then
press to confirm. Use the key to delete digits
entered by error.
Note!
If you did not receive PIN and PUK codes along the SIM Card,
contact your service provider. If you enter the PIN code 3
times in error, the SIM Card will be locked and entering the
PUK code will be required.
GOOGLE DEVICE PROTECTION
Because of security reasons, the GOOGLE Inc. introduced
additional protection for devices with the Android system
(Google Device Protection).
Such protection will protect your data and prevent an

12
unauthorized user from restoring factory settings, if the
phone gets for example stolen.
Google Device Protection gets automatically enabled if two
features are set:
- Screen lock (with the PIN code, pattern, or password)
- Dedicated Google account.
Please be careful while entering the security data, both in
case of the phone lock, and data required to log in while
signing up for a Google account.
Please be aware that after factory settings are restored, the
only way to unlock the phone will be logging into the
existing/earlier assigned Google account.
Maxcom S.A. is kindly advising you that any claims related to
unlocking the phone within Google Device Protection won’t
be considered or the problem will be solved for a charge, as
requested by the customer.
