Safety precautions
Payload
The payload is determined as follows (example):
Assembly weight of the bicycle holder: 8.8 lbs (4 kg)
Maximum payload: 44 lbs
(20 kg)
Max. tubular diameter of the bicycle frame:
Round tube 3.8 inches
(98 mm)
Oval tube 4.3 x 2.7 inches
(110 x 70 mm)
GRisk of accident
Each individual step of the installation instructions, the warning notes,
the general safety precautions and the instructions for use must be
followed exactly. If the bicycle holder is not fitted correctly, it and the
bicycles secured to it can become detached from your vehicle,
possibly injuring you or other persons and/or causing damage to
property, including damage to your vehicle.
Do not use accessories which are not approved for Mercedes-Benz for
use in conjunction with this bicycle holder. If non-approved
accessories are used, they and/or the mounted bicycles could
become detached from your vehicle, thereby injuring you or other
persons and/or causing damage to property, including your own
vehicle.
GRisk of accident
Make sure that:
• no other objects are transported on the bicycle holder
• every bicycle is fixed in place in a holder, as well as with
tensioning straps on the front and rear wheels
• all loose parts, such as air pumps, water bottles, bicycle baskets,
etc., have been removed and securely stowed before mounting
the respective bicycle on the bicycle holder.
The bicycles and/or loose parts could otherwise become detached
while driving, e.g. when braking, and possibly cause the road users
behind the vehicle to have an accident, as well as injuries and damage
to property associated with such an accident.
GRisk of accident
The roof load creates a larger surface area exposed to the wind and
results in the vehicle having a higher centre of gravity, thereby
changing the vehicle's driving characteristics. For example, the
additional weight on the roof of the car can have a detrimental effect
on the vehicle's braking, cornering and acceleration characteristics.
You should therefore never exceed a maximum speed of 80 mph
(130 km/h) when the bicycle holder is laden.
Always adapt your driving style to the prevailing road, traffic and
weather conditions, and drive with particular care when the bicycle
holder is laden.
Always exercise greater caution when driving with the bicycle holder
fitted to the car, even if it is not loaded.
Make sure that you never exceed the maximum roof load or the
maximum permissible gross weight for your vehicle, even when other
roof attachments (roof box, etc.) are fitted. Otherwise, the basic
carrier system, the roof attachments and/or the load could become
detached from the vehicle, possibly injuring you or other persons
and/or causing damage to property, including damage to your vehicle.
GRisk of accident
The bicycles should never be covered with sheeting or other materials
as this significantly alters the surface exposed to the wind and the
driving characteristics such that the vehicle's braking, accelerating
and cornering abilities could be adversely affected.
GRisk of accident
Every time the holder is fitted, before you set off on a journey and
periodically during longer journeys, check all screws, locking
mechanisms, holders and straps on the bicycle holder to make sure
that they are secure and tighten them if necessary. Repeat these
checks at regular intervals as road surface conditions dictate, and at
least every 1500 miles (2500 km) of continuous use.
Do not use any lubricant on the screws of the bicycle holder. The
screws could work loose and the bicycle holder could become
detached from your vehicle, together with the mounted bicycles,
possibly injuring you or other persons and/or causing damage to
property, including damage to your vehicle.
Permissible roof load (Please refer to the
vehicle Owner's Manual.)
110/165/220 lbs
(50/75/100 kg)
minus the unladen weight of the carrier
bars (1): 12 lbs (5.5 kg)
minus the unladen weight of the
roof attachments (2, 3): 42 lbs (19 kg)
Maximum payload: 56/111/166 lbs
(25.5/50.5 /75.5 kg)
