GENERAL INFORMATION
RELEASE CONTENT INFORMATION
This document provides release content information on the Mitel 6800 series SIP phone
firmware.
HARDWARE SUPPORTED
This release of firmware is compatible with the following Mitel SIP portfolio products:
• 6863i
• 6865i
• 6867i
• 6869i
• 6873i
BOOTLOADER REQUIREMENTS
This release of firmware is compatible with the following Mitel SIP portfolio product bootloader
versions:
• 6863i: Boot2 1.0.0.0 or higher
• 6865i: Boot2 1.0.0.0 or higher
• 6867i: Boot2 1.0.0.6 or higher
• 6869i: Boot2 1.0.0.6 or higher
• 6873i: Boot2 1.0.1.9 or higher

IMPORTANT 6800 SERIES SIP PHONE FIRMWARE UPGRADE
INFORMATION
IMPORTANT M685I EXPANSION MODULE FIRMWARE DOWNGRADE
INFORMATION
If you upgrade your phone to Release 4.2.0 and an M685i Expansion Module is attached, the
M685i Expansion Module will also upgrade to align itself with the new UI changes.
If downgrading the phone with an M685i Expansion Module from Release 4.2.0 to a firmware
version of Release 4.1.0 (or below), it is required to first downgrade to a Release 4.1.0 Hot Fix
or 4.1.0 Service Pack and then to the Release 4.1.0 (or below) firmware version in such
scenarios.
This will ensure the UI of the M685i Expansion Module is aligned with the UI at all times.
WARNING: DO NOT ATTEMPT TO UPGRADE YOUR PHONE TO RELEASE 4.2.0
WHEN IN WEB RECOVERY MODE. DOING SO WILL CAUSE YOUR PHONE TO
BECOME NON-OPERATIONAL.

NEW FEATURES IN RELEASE 4.2.0
This section provides the new features in SIP Phone Release 4.2.0. The following table
summarizes each new feature and provides a link to more information within this release note.
Each feature also specifies whether it affects theAdministrator, the User, or the XML Developer.

Certificate Support
(For Administrators)
With Release 4.2.0, the SIP phones now support the validation of
the Symantec Class 3 Secure Server CA - G4 intermediate CA
certificate.

BroadSoft BroadWorks Xsi
Additional Directory Support
(For Administrators)
With Release 4.2.0 the SIP phones now support additional
BroadSoft BroadWorks Xsi directories such as Enterprise
Common Phone List, Group Directory, and Group Common
Phone List.
*New for all phones.
BroadSoft BroadWorks Xsi Hide
Number Support
(For Administrators and Users)
Release 4.2.0 introduces interoperability support for the
BroadSoft BroadWorks Xsi Hide Number feature. By turning the
Hide Number feature on (found in Options > BroadSoft Call
Settings > Hide Number), users are able to place anonymous
calls whereby the user’s caller ID will not be displayed on the
called party’s phone.

Support for Manually
Opening/Closing Ports 80, 443,
and 49249
(For Administrators)
A new parameter ("secure web service") has been introduced in
Release 4.2.0 allowing Administrators the ability to manually
open or close HTTP/HTTPs ports 80 and 443 as well as port
49249. Closing these ports not only disables users from
accessing the Web UI and other services, but will also help nullify
web server attacks.

SIP Features
Local Mode SCA Behavior
Enhancement
(For Administrators)
Release 4.2.0 introduces a behavior enhancement when the
phone is in Local Mode and is configured for BroadSoft Shared
Call Appearance (SCA) functionality. Due to the behavior
enhancement, users are now able to make and receive calls in
Local Mode even if the SCA subscription expires.

Addition of LLDP ELIN Parameter
Value in From Header
(For Administrators)
An additional value of "2" has been added to the "use lldp elin"
parameter. When defined, an "elin=number" value will be added
to the From header indicating the call is an emergency call.

UI Features
User Interface Redesign
(For Administrators and Users)
Release 4.2.0 introduces a new contemporary user interface for
the 6867i, 6869i, and 6873i SIP phones. The UI has been
redesigned to improve clarity and ease-of-use but has also been
engineered to ensure the user experience is instantly familiar.
*New for the 6867i, 6869i, and 6873i.
Troubleshooting Features
Addition of Reboot Information in
Log Files and Web UI
(For Administrators)
Information related to the phone reboot process is now available
to be reviewed in a new log file as well as the Web UI in Release
4.2.0. When the phone reboots, information regarding the reboot
is added to the reboot.log file and can also be viewed in the new
System Messages section of the Troubleshooting menu through
the phone’s Web UI.

XML Features
fontMono Root Tag Support for
Text Menu and Formatted Text
Screen Objects
(For XML Developers)
A new root tag "fontMono" has been created allowing XML
developers the choice of using either the monotype font or
non-monotype font in Text Menu and Formatted Text Screen
objects.

*New for the 6867i, 6869i, and 6873i.
title Tag Support for Wav.Play
Command
(For XML Developers)
A new tag "title" has been created allowing XML developers the
choice of displaying the defined title instead of the respective
.wav filename when using the AastraIPPhoneExecute Wav.Play
command.

touchLaunch Root Tag Support for
TextMenu Objects

A new root tag "touchLaunch" has been created allowing for the

Starting with Release 4.2.0, custom icons can be loaded and
displayed on screen for the following XML elements:

• TopTitle (all UI objects).
• PhoneStatus (for the alert icon).

CONFIGURATION FEATURES
BROADSOFT BROADWORKS XSI ADDITIONAL DIRECTORY SUPPORT
The 6800 Series SIP phones support enhanced Directory functionality allowing for
interoperability with multiple directory sources. With Release 4.2.0 the SIP phones now support
additional BroadSoft BroadWorks Xsi directories such as Enterprise Common Phone List,
Group Directory, and Group Common Phone List in addition to the previously supported
Enterprise Directory and Personal Contacts. When configured, the SIP phones will retrieve the
respective BroadSoft Xsi directory and add folders to the Directory menu where they can be
accessed by users.
Administrators can fully configure the respective Xsi directories by defining the following
parameters in the configuration files:

Phones Administrator Guide and your respective phone model’s SIP Phone User Guide.
PARAMETER DESCRIPTION
xsi ip Specifies the Xsi Enterprise Directory credentials (if applicable) and IP
address or Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) of the Xsi server in the
following syntax:

Note: Xsi credentials defined through the "xsi ip" parameter are only applicable
to the Xsi Enterprise Directory feature and not applicable to user-related Xsi
features such as Speed Dial 8, Call Logs, Hide Number, and other Xsi
directories. Credentials for the user-related Xsi features require encryption and
therefore must be entered through the phone’s Options List > Credentials menu.
xsi protocol Specifies the protocol (either HTTP or HTTPs) used for communicating with the
Xsi server.
xsi port Specifies the port used for communicating with the Xsi server.
xsi user name Specifies the user name used for authentication of the Xsi account.

time before starting a BroadSoft Xsi directory checksync.

DESCRIPTION Sets the time of day in a 24-hour period for the IP phone to update
the BroadSoft Xsi directories.
This parameter works with TFTP, FTP, HTTP and HTTPS servers.
Notes:
• The resync time is based on the local time of the IP phone.
• The value of 00:00 is 12:00 A.M.
• When entering a value for this parameter using the configuration
files, the value can be entered using minute values from 00 to 59
(for example, the auto resync time can be entered as 02:56).
• Resync adds up to 15 minutes random time to the configured
time. For example, if the resync time parameter is set to 02:00, the
event takes place any time between 02:00 and 02:15.
• When the language on the phone is set to French or Spanish, you
must enter the time in the format "00h00" (configuration files only).

Enabling/Disabling Directories and Renaming Labels Using the Phone UI
Use the following procedure on the phone’s UI to enable/disable directories and rename
directory folder labels.
For the 6863i/6865i:
1. Press the key on the phone to enter the Option List.
2. Select Directory.
3. Select External Sources.
4. Navigate to the Directory Source you wish to enable/disable and press the 4Enter key.
5. Navigate to the State setting and press the 4Enter key.
6. Select a state (ON or OFF).
7. Press the key or select 4Set.
Your selection will be immediately applied to the phone.
8. Navigate to the Label setting and press the 4Enter key.
9. Using the dialpad keys, enter in a name for the respective directory folder.
10. Select 4Set.
Your selection will be immediately applied to the phone.

For the 6867i/6869i:
1. Press on the phone to enter the Options List.
2. Navigate to the Directory > External Sources option and press the button or Select
softkey.
3. Use the 2and 5keys to navigate through the list of Directory sources and press the
button to enable or disable each one as per your preference.
4. Press the 5key to navigate to the Enable/Disable tab, and press the 4key to switch to
the Labels menu.
5. Use the 2and 5keys to navigate through the list of Directory source labels and using the
dialpad keys (or K680i Keyboard if available) enter in a name for the respective directory
folders.
6. Press the Save softkey to save your changes.
For the 6873i:
1. Press on the phone to enter the Options List.
2. Press the Directory icon and then the External Sources icon. A list of directory sources
is displayed.
3. Press the respective checkboxes to enable or disable each one as per your preference.
4. Press the right arrow button on the Enable/Disable tab to switch to the Labels menu.
5. Press the respective label field you want to edit and using the on-screen keyboard or dialpad
keys enter in a name for the respective directory folder.
6. Press the Save softkey to save your changes.
Entering Username/Passwords and Testing Connections Using the Phone UI
Before a specific Directory can be loaded, user credentials (i.e. username and password) for
each respective external Directory source will need to be entered using the phone’s UI by
navigating to the Options > Credentials menu. For the 6867i, 6869i, and 6873i this menu also
allows users to test their connection to the external Directory source.
Use the following procedure on the phone’s UI to enter user credentials (and for the 6867i,
6869i, and 6873i test the connection to an external source).
