Welcome
Functionally advanced but easy to use, the 6392 is equipped with two-line capabilities and
features such as 3-way conferencing that can help enhance productivity in any business
environment.
When it comes to making calls, the 6392’s modern design and large display screen make a
world of difference. Save up to 200 numbers in your Directory for fast, simple dialing. Enjoy
the option of handsfree dialing (without having to lift the receiver). Subscribe to network
services like Call Display and Visual Call Waiting, and you will see the caller’s name and
number before you answer.
The 6392 clearly displays all the important information on its large LCD display. With six
“softkeys” that provide different options based on activity, the 6392 provides step-by-step
instructions and menus for ease of use. The 6392’s well designed user interface makes
day-to-day use intuitively simple.
Compatible with most business systems and offering a comprehensive feature set, the 6392
is simply a smart solution for today’s complex business environment.
Phone features
The 6392 has a host of powerful new features. Some of these features include:
• Two line operation with 3-way conferencing.
• Large 8-line 3.5” backlit display.
• 6 programmable softkeys (4 pages of softkeys for a total of 20 functions).
• Press-and-hold memory key configuration feature.
• 200-name and number Directory.
• 100-name and number Callers List.
• 15-name and number Redial List.
• English/French/Spanish language display prompts.
• Enhanced speakerphone for handsfree calls.
• Analog headset support.
• AC power adapter (included).
Emergency service feature
The 6392 will provide basic phone service only on Line 1 during a power failure. The phone can
take power directly from the line, however only the dialpad, ringer, and handset will function. Active
calls on power failure may drop. In this case, users should disconnect the call and reconnect once
the phone has switched to line power mode.

When you unpack your phone, you should ensure that you have all of the following items. If any part
is missing, contact the supplier of your phone.

Please refer to the 6392 Installation Guide included with your phone for basic installation and physical
setup information.

Key description
The following table describes the keys on the 6390:
Key Description
Flash key - Allows you to access your subscribed services, such as call waiting
and three-way calling. These services vary from area to area, so contact your
telephone service provider or PBX Administrator for instructions on using
available services with your 6392 phone. If the instructions say to press the
“hook-switch” or “receiver button,” press the Flash key.
Feature key - Provides access to advanced features such as Do Not Disturb
(DND), Voice Mail, and Call Forward.
For more information, see “Display messages and lights” on page 26.
Options key - Provides access to various basic and advanced options allowing
you to fully customize your phone.
For more information, see “Customizing your phone” on page 28.
Mute key - Mutes the microphone so that your caller cannot hear you (the LED
indicator turns on and a message is displayed on screen when the microphone is
on mute).
Volume controls - Adjusts the volume for the ringer, handset, headset, and
speaker phone.
For more information, see “Volume controls” on page 11.
Goodbye key - Ends an active call. The Goodbye key also exits an open list,
such as the Options List, without saving changes.
Hold key - Places an active call on hold.
To retrieve a held call, press the line key for the held line, or display the line, and
either pick up the handset or press the hands-free key.
Line Keys - The 6392 has two Line keys, each with LED indicator lights.
Connects to selected line or connects to with the respective call on the applicable
line.

Speaker/Headset key - Transfers the active call to the speaker or headset,
allowing handsfree use of the phone.
For more information, see “Using the speakerphone” on page 9 and “Using a
headset” on page 10.
Directory key - Accesses a directory of up to 200 names and phone numbers.
For more information, see “Directory” on page 13.
Conference key - Directly connects the active calls on Line 1 and Line 2 to create
a conference call.

Callers List key - Accesses a list of the last 100 calls received.
For more information, see “Callers List” on page 19.
Redial key - Accesses a list of the last 15 previously dialed numbers. Pressing
the Redial key twice redials the last dialed number.
For more information, see “Redial List” on page 16.
Navigation keys and select button - Multi-directional navigation keys allow you
to navigate through the phone’s user interface. Pressing the center button
selects/sets options.
Softkeys - Six contextual softkeys that allow you select commands displayed on
the screen. Five of the softkeys are also programmable and allow you to configure
up to 20 memory key entries.

Making and receiving calls
This section describes how to make and receive calls on your 6392 using your handset,
speakerphone, or headset.
Using the handset
Making a call using the handset
You can use the 6392 to make a regular call or you can pre-dial a phone number to ensure it is
correct before it is dialed out. Follow the procedures below to make a regular or pre-dialed call.
Making a regular call
1. Lift the handset.
2. At the dial tone, enter the number you wish to call using the dialpad.
Pre-dialing a number
1. Enter the number you wish to call using the dialpad.
2. Lift the handset or press the Dial softkey or applicable Line key and then lift the handset.
Answering an incoming call using the handset
To answer an incoming call using the handset, lift the handset when the phone rings.
Switching to the handset while on a call
When on an active call using a headset or the speakerphone, pick up the handset to switch the
audio path to the handset.
Note: Pre-dialing is only available if the Live Dialpad feature is disabled.
Note: If you subscribe to a Caller ID service, caller information will be sent from the telephone
service provider to your 6392 between the first and second ring. Therefore, if you want the number
of the incoming call to appear on the display and in the Callers List, you must wait until the Caller
ID information appears on the display before answering the phone.

Using the speakerphone
The speakerphone feature allows you to speak to someone without using the handset or a headset.
Making a call using the speakerphone
Making a regular call
1. Press the key (press the key twice if a headset is attached to the phone) or press
an applicable Line key (and press the key if a headset is attached to the phone).
2. At the dial tone, enter the number you wish to call using the dialpad.

Using a headset
The 6392 accepts analog headsets through the RJ9 headset port on the back of the phone indicated
by the f(headset) icon.
Contact your phone equipment retailer or distributor to purchase a compatible headset. For headset
installation instructions, please refer to the 6392 Installation Guide provided with your phone.
Making a call using a headset
Making a regular call
1. Press the key or an applicable Line key.
2. At the dial tone, enter the number you wish to call using the dialpad.
Pre-dialing a number
1. Enter the number you wish to call using the dialpad.
2. Press the key, and applicable Line key or press the Dial softkey.
Notes:
1. The RJ9 headset port is for headset use only. Plugging any other devices into this port may
cause damage to the phone and will void your warranty.
2. Customers should read and observe all safety recommendations contained in the respective
headset operating guides when using any headset.

Answering an incoming call using a headset
To answer an incoming call using a headset, press the key when the phone rings.
Switching to a headset while on a call
When on an active call using the handset, press the key to switch to the headset and hang
up the handset.
When on an active call using the speakerphone, press the key to switch to the headset.
Volume controls
You can adjust the volume of the ringer, handset, speakerphone, and headset by pressing the left
or right side of the key.
Adjusting the ringer volume
While the phone is ringing, press the left or right side of the key to increase or decrease
the ringer volume for the applicable line in use.
When the phone is idle, pressing the key displays a line selection screen. Press the
Line1 or Line2 to select the line to which you want to apply the changes and press the left or right
side of the key to increase or decrease the ringer volume for the selected line.
Adjusting the handset volume
Lift the handset off hook, press the left or right side of the key to increase or decrease
the handset volume.
Adjusting the speakerphone volume
Press the key (press the key twice if a headset is attached to the phone) and press
the left or right side of the key to increase or decrease the speakerphone volume.
Adjusting the headset volume
Press the key and press the left or right side of the key to increase or decrease
the headset volume.
Note: If you subscribe to a Caller ID service, caller information will be sent from the telephone
service provider to your 6392 between the first and second ring. Therefore, if you want the number
of the incoming call to appear on the display and in the Callers List, you must wait until the Caller
ID information appears on the display before answering the phone.
Note: To prevent hearing-related injuries, when you set the handset volume to its maximum level,
after placing the handset back on hook, the phone will automatically reset the handset volume to
its default level.

Redialing a number
The Redial List stores information for up to the last 15 numbers you called and can be used to redial
one of your previously called numbers.
Redialing a number
1. Press the key to access the Redial List.
2. Press the key again to automatically redial the last dialed number
or
Press the 5and 2(up and down) navigation keys to scroll through the list of entries.
3. Press the Dial softkey, lift the handset, or press the key to dial the displayed number.
4. Press the key to cancel.

Managing calls
The 6392 has several features that make it easier to manage calls, keep track of your call history,
and organize your business and personal contacts.
These features include:
• Directory
• Redial List
• Callers List
Directory
The Directory is your personal phone book, conveniently stored within your phone. The 6392 stores
the numbers and names of up to 200 of your business associates, clients, contacts, and friends in
your Directory. You can view, add, edit, and delete entries using the Directory. You can also dial an
entry directly using the Directory.
Names are sorted alphabetically starting with their first character. If you want your Directory sorted
by the last name, enter the last name first. If you do not enter a name, the item is sorted by phone
number. The Directory entries with only a phone number are numerically sorted at the beginning of
the Directory.
Accessing the Directory
1. Press the key to access the Directory.
The number of entries are displayed.

Adding a new Directory entry
1. Press the key to access the Directory.
2. Press the AddNew softkey.
An “Enter Number>” prompt displays on screen.
3. Enter the desired number using the dialpad.
4. Press the Save softkey.
A “Press 1st letter to enter name>” prompt displays on screen.
5. Enter the desired name using the dialpad.
6. Press the Save softkey.
An “Enter ring tone>” prompt displays on screen.
7. Press the Change softkey or the 5and 2(up and down) navigation keys to cycle through, select,
and listen to a sample of the ring tone.You can choose from a a total of 10 different ring tones.
8. Press the Save softkey.

ring tone feature is dependent on Caller ID information and Caller ID information usually arrives

Deleting all Directory entries
1. Press the key to access the Directory.
2. Press the DeleteList softkey.
A “Delete again to erase all items” prompt is displayed on screen.

All entries are deleted from the Directory.
Redial List
The Redial List stores information for up to the last 15 numbers you called. Your phone logs the
name/number of the called party and when you called. You can view and delete entries in the Redial
List as well as copy entries to the Directory or a memory key. You can also dial an entry directly
using the Redial List.
Accessing the Redial List
1. Press the key to access the Redial List.
The number of entries are displayed.
2. Press the 5and 2(up and down) navigation keys to scroll through the list of entries.
3. Press the Quit softkey or key to exit the Redial List.
Redialing a number
1. Press the key to access the Redial List.
2. Press the key again to automatically redial the last dialed number
or
Press the 5and 2(up and down) navigation keys to scroll through the list of entries.
3. Press the Dial softkey, lift the handset, or press the key to dial the displayed number.
4. Press the key to cancel.
Note: If the number dialed matches a Directory entry, the name is displayed in the Redial List. If
the number does not match a Directory entry then the first entry in the Redial List is displayed as
“Last number” and all others are displayed as “Redial number”.

c. Enter/edit the desired label using the dialpad (maximum 10 characters in length).
d. Press the Save softkey to save your changes.

e. Press the Number softkey.
f. Enter/edit the desired number using the dialpad (maximum 24 digits in length).
g. Press the Save softkey to save the number.
5. Press the Done softkey to save your changes and copy the entry to the selected softkey.
