zSAFETY PRECAUTIONS z
(Read these precautions before using this product.)
Before using this product, please read this manual and the relevant manuals
carefully and pay full attention to safety to handle the product correctly.
Precautionary notes in this manual cover only the installations of this product.
For precautions on designing and discarding this product, refer to "Safety
Precautions" in the MELSECNET/H Reference Manual.
For the safety instructions of the programmable controller system, please read
the CPU module user's manual.
In this manual, the safety precautions are classified into to levels: "DANGER" and
"CAUTION".
Indicates that incorrect handling may cause hazardous
conditions, resulting in death or severe injury.
Indicates that incorrect handling may cause hazardous
conditions, resulting in minor or moderate injury or property
damage.
Under some circumstances, failure to observe the precautions given under "
CAUTION" may lead to serious consequences.
Observe the precautions of both levels because they are important for personal
and system safety.
Make sure that the end users read this manual and then keep the manual in a
safe place for future reference.

[Installation Precautions]
CAUTION
zUse the programmable controller in the operating an environment that meets
the general specifications given in the user's manual for the CPU module
used.
Failure to do so may result in electric shock, fire, malfunction, or damage to
or deterioration of the product.
zTo mount the module, while pressing the module mounting lever located in
the lower part of module, fully insert the module fixing projection(s) into the
hole(s) in the base unit press the module until it snaps into place.
Incorrect mounting may cause malfunction, failure or drop of the module.
When using the programmable controller in an environment of frequent
vibrations, fix the module a screw.
Tighten the screw within the specified torque range.
Undertightening can cause drop of the screw, short circuit or malfunction.
Overtightening can damage the screw and/or module, resulting in drop, short
circuit, or malfunction.
zShut off the external power supply for the system in all phases before
mounting or removing the module.
Failure to do so may result in damage to the product.
zDo not directly touch any conductive part of the module.
Doing so can cause malfunction or failure of the module.
zBefore handling the module, touch a grounded metal object to discharge the
static electricity from the human body.
Failure to do so may cause the module to fail or malfunction.

[Wiring Precautions]
DANGER
zShut off the external power supply for the system in all phases before wiring.
Failure to do so may result in electric shock or damage to the product.
CAUTION
zGround the FG and LG terminals to the protective ground conductor
dedicated to the programmable controller.
Failure to do so may result in electric shock malfunction.
zCheck the rated voltage and terminal layout before wiring to the terminal
block for the external power supply, and connect the cable correctly.
Connecting a cable to power supply with a different voltage rating or
incorrect wiring may cause a fire or failure.
zTighten the terminal screw within the specified torque range.
Undertightening can cause drop of the screw, short circuit or malfunction.
Overtightening can damage the screw and/or module, resulting in drop,
short circuit, or malfunction.
zCorrectly solder coaxial cable connectors. Incomplete soldering may result in
malfunction.
zPrevent foreign matter such as dust or wire chips from entering the module.
Such foreign matter can cause a fire, failure, or malfunction.
zA protective film is attached to the top of the module to prevent foreign
matter, such as wire chips, from entering the module during wiring.
Do not remove this film during wiring.
Remove it for heat dissipation before system operation.
zPlace the cables in a duct or clamp them.
If not, dangling cable may swing or inadvertently be pulled, resulting in
damage to the module or cables or malfunction due to poor contact.
zWhen disconnecting the communication and power cables from the module,
do not pull the cable by the cable part.
Loosen the screws of connector before disconnecting the cable.
When disconnecting a cable connected to a terminal block, loosen the
screws on the terminal block first before removing the cable.
Failure to do so may result in damage to the module or cable or malfunction
due to poor contact.

Compliance with the EMC and Low Voltage Directives
(1) For programmable controller system
To configure a system meeting the requirements of the EMC and Low
Voltage Directives when incorporating the Mitsubishi programmable
controller (EMC and Low Voltage Directives compliant) into other
machinery or equipment, refer to Chapter 9 "EMC AND LOW VOLTAGE
DIRECTIVES" of the QCPU User's Manual (Hardware Design,
Maintenance and Inspection).
The CE mark, indicating compliance with the EMC and Low Voltage
Directives, is printed on the rating plate of the programmable controller.
(2) For the product
No additional measures are necessary for the compliance of this product
with the EMC and Low Voltage Directives.

1. OVERVIEW
This manual explains how to handle the MELSECNET/H network module, model
number QJ71NT11B (hereinafter referred to as the network module).
The network module is used as a control/normal station in the PLC to PLC
network in the MELSECNET/H system.
After unpacking the network module, confirm that the following products are
enclosed.

3. HANDLING
CAUTION
zUse the programmable controller in the operating an environment that meets
the general specifications given in the user's manual for the CPU module
used.
Failure to do so may result in electric shock, fire, malfunction, or damage to
or deterioration of the product.
zTo mount the module, while pressing the module mounting lever located in
the lower part of module, fully insert the module fixing projection(s) into the
hole(s) in the base unit press the module until it snaps into place.
Incorrect mounting may cause malfunction, failure or drop of the module.
When using the programmable controller in an environment of frequent

3.1 Handling Precautions
(1) Since the module case is made of resin, do not drop the module or apply a
strong impact to it.
(2) Do not remove the printed-circuit board of the module from the case.
Doing so will cause failure.
(3) Prevent foreign matter such as dust or wire chips from entering the module.
Failure to do so may cause a fire, failure, or malfunction.
(4) A protective film is attached to the module top to prevent foreign matter
such as wire chips from entering the module during wiring.
Do not remove the film during wiring.
Be sure to remove it for heat dissipation before system operation.
(5) Before handling the module, touch a grounded metal object to discharge
the static electricity from the human body.
Failure to do so may cause the module to fail or malfunction.
(6) Tighten the screws such as module fixing screws within the following
ranges.

*1: The module can be easily fixed onto the base unit using the hook at the top of
the module.
However, it is recommended to secure the module with the module fixing
screw if the module is subject to significant vibration.

LED LED status Indication
ERR. Red on • An error occurred, for instance a station number setting error,
mode setting error (set to use prohibited), operation condition
setting error (parameters), or an installed CPU type error (settings
outside the range used, CPU type).
• A station with the same number already exists in the network.
• The host is specified as the control station even though a control
station already exists in the network.
• Invalid parameter settings.
• The parameters received from the sub-control station and the
parameters retained by the host (received from the control station)
are different.
• A moderate or fatal error occurred in the CPU module.
Flashing • An error was detected while testing the network module.
• The MODE switch or the STATION NO. switch status was
changed during operation.
Off Normal status
L ERR. Red on A communication error occurred (one of the following communication
errors has occurred):
CRC : Error generated by an cable failure, noise, etc.
OVER : This error occurs when the next data is received before
the last receive data is loaded into the module, and the
data is overwritten. It is caused by a hardware error in
the receive area of the network module.
AB.IF : This error occurs when more than the specified number
of bits are set to "1" among the receive data in the
frame, or when the receive data is shorter than the
specified data length.
TIME : This error occurs when a baton pass was not handed to
the host within the monitoring time.
DATA : This error is caused when abnormal code data is
received.
UNDER : This error occurs when the internal processing of the
send data was not executed at a fixed interval.
<Corrective action>
Check the cables and connectors (detached or loosened
connectors, wrong IN/OUT connections, broken or
damaged cables, improper cable routing, etc.)

Used to connect a twisted pair cable or CC-Link Ver. 1.10-compatible cable

5. WIRING
DANGER
zShut off the external power supply for the system in all phases before wiring.
Failure to do so may result in electric shock or damage to the product.
CAUTION
zGround the FG and LG terminals to the protective ground conductor
dedicated to the programmable controller.
Failure to do so may result in electric shock malfunction.
zCheck the rated voltage and terminal layout before wiring to the terminal
block for the external power supply, and connect the cable correctly.
Connecting a cable to power supply with a different voltage rating or

5.1 Twisted Bus System (When using twisted pair cable)
5.1.1 Specifications of twisted pair cable
The following shows the specifications of a shielded twisted pair cable used in
the twisted bus system.
Twisted pair cables that satisfy the following specifications can also be used
even not introduced.

5.1.2 Precautions for wiring twisted pair cable
(1) Wiring precautions
(a) Wiring shielded twisted pair cable
When wiring a shielded twisted pair cable, prevent the noise and surge
induction, referring to the following.
1) Do not install a shielded twisted pair cable together with the main
circuit, high-voltage cable, or load line and also do not bring them
close to each other. (Keep a distance of 100mm (3.94 inches) or
more between them.)
2) Provide as much distance as possible between the shielded twisted
pair cables and the power supply of the module or I/O signal cables.
3) Do not use any of shielded twisted pair cables (e.g. One pair among
three pairs) for supplying power.
(b) Connecting terminating resistors
For the network modules at both ends, connect the DA and DB by a
terminating resister (110 , 1/2W) provided with the module.
(c) Connecting/disconnecting a shielded twisted pair cable
Shut off the external power supply for the system in all phases.
(2) Connection of cable
(a) Connection method
For connection between DAs and between DBs, use twisted pair cables.
No cabling is required for (DG).
In addition, connect terminating resistors for stations at both ends.

(b) Connecting a cable to the spring clamp terminal block
The following explains connecting method of a cable to a spring clamp
terminal block.
For the stripping method of the cable end, refer to Section 5.3. in this
manual.
Use a recommended screwdriver or equivalent for connecting or
disconnecting cables.
For details of the driver, refer to Appendix.5 in the Q corresponding
MELSECNET/H Network System Reference Manual (PLC to PLC
network).
1) Connecting the cable
Fully insert the cable into the correct opening with the open/close
button pressed by a slotted screwdriver.
When using a bar terminal, the cable can be inserted without
pressing the button.

2) Disconnecting the cable
Keep pressing the open/close button by a slotted screwdriver until
the cable is completely pulled out.
5.2 Twisted Bus System (When using CC-Link Ver.1.10-compatible Cable)
5.2.1 Specifications of CC-Link Ver. 1.10-compatible cable
The following table shows the specifications of the CC-Link Ver. 1.10-compatible
cable used for the twisted bus system.
The following CC-Link Ver. 1.10-compatible cables can be used.

5.2.2 Precautions for wiring CC-Link Ver. 1.10-compatible cable
(1) Wiring precautions
(a) Usage of CC-Link cables
The CC-Link Ver. 1.10-compatible cable cannot be used together with
other CC-Link cables (CC-Link dedicated cable and CC-Link dedicated
high-performance cable)
When used together, normal data communication cannot be expected.
(b) Branching of CC-Link cable
Connect network modules only with CC-Link cables.
Repeater hubs and connectors cannot be used.
(c) Grounding of CC-Link cable
Ground both ends of the shielded wire of the CC-Link Ver.
1.10-compatible cable to the protective ground conductor by connecting
to "SLD" of each network module via "FG".
The SLD and FG are connected within the module.
(d) Connecting a terminating resistor
For the network module at both ends, connect the DA and DB by a
terminating resister (110 , 1/2W) provided with the module.
(e) Connecting/disconnecting CC-Link Ver. 1.10-compatible cable
Shut off the external power supply for the system in all phases.
(2) Connection of cable
(a) Connection method
Connect a blue, white, and yellow cable to the DA, DB, and (DG)
respectively.
In addition, use terminating resistors for the stations at both ends.
