1.Introduction
1.1BluetoothTechnology
Theterm “Bluetooth”referstoaworldwidestandardforthe
wirelessexchangeofdatabetweentwodevices.Inordertoexchange
data,twoBluetoothdevicesmustestablishaconnection.Beforea
connectionisestablished,onedevicemustrequestaconnection
withanother.Thesecond device accepts(orrejects)theconnection.
Theoriginatoroftherequestisknownastheclient. The
device thataccepts(orrejects)therequestisknownastheserver.
Many Bluetoothdevicescanactasbothclientand server.
AclientBluetoothdevicerunsasoftwareprogramthatre-
questsaconnection toanotherdevice aspart ofitsnormal operation.
Forexample,theprogrammayrequestaconnectiontoaremote
computer,aprinter,oramodem.Becoming aBluetoothclient
normallyrequiresanaction by thedevice operator,suchasan
attempttobrowsearemotecomputer,printafile,ordialoutona
modem.
EveryBluetoothdevicethatprovidesaservicemustbepre-
paredtorespond toaconnection request.Bluetoothsoftwareis
alwaysrunning inthebackground on theserver,ready torespondto
connectionrequests.

3.1IntroductiontoBlueSoleil
BlueSoleil isaWindows-basedsoftwarefromIVTthatallows
yourBluetooth®enableddesktopornotebookcomputerto
wirelesslyconnecttootherBluetoothenableddevices.
BlueSoleil allows MS Windows userstowirelesslyaccess a
widevarietyofBluetoothenableddigitaldevices,suchas
cameras,mobilephones,headsets,printers,andGPS
receivers.Youcanalsoformnetworksandexchangedata
withotherBluetoothenabledcomputersorPDAs.
Platformssupportedby BlueSoleil include:Windows 98SE,
ME,2000,andXP.
1. Bluetooth Functions
InordertoconnectandshareservicesviaBluetoothwireless
technology,twodevicesmustsupportthesameBluetooth
Profile(s)aswellasoppositedevice roles(i.e., onemustbe
theserver,and theothermustbetheclient).Bluetooth
enableddevicesoftensupportmultipleprofiles,andifin-

CompactFlashCard:
1.InserttheCompactFlashcardintoyourcomputer.Touse
aCFcardinaPCCard(PCMCIA)slot,firstplugthecard
intoaCF-to-PCCardadapter.
2.TheFoundNewHardwareWizardwillautomaticallystart.
Makesuretheinstallation CDisstill inyourcomputer.Fol-
lowthewizardtoinstall thecarddrivers.

2. Install the Software
IMPORTANT! IfyouhaveanyBluetoothsoftwarepre-
viouslyinstalledonyourcomputer,youmustcom-
pletelyremoveitfirst!
1.InserttheBlueSoleil softwareinstallation CDintotheCD
driveofyourcomputer.
2.UseMyComputerorWindowsExplorertoaccessyour
CDdrive.IntheCD,clickon SETUP.EXE.
3.Followthedirectionsonyourscreentoinstallthesoftware.
4.As prompted,whensoftwareinstallation iscomplete,re-
startyourcomputer.
3. Start BlueSoleil
1.StartBlueSoleil. Clickon theBlueSoleil icononyour
desktop,orgo toStart |Programs|IVTBlueSoleil |BlueSoleil.
Note: BlueSoleil will detecteachinsertion orremoval ofthe
USBadapter. Alternatively,youcanstartBlueSoleilbefore
pluggingintheUSBadapter.
2.Theveryfirsttime you useBlueSoleil,theWelcome to
Bluetoothscreenwill appear.Assign yourWindows system a
nameanddevicetype,tobeshowntootherBluetoothen-
ableddevices.Inmostcases,youshouldleavethesecurity
setting checked.ClickOK.

4. Search forOther Bluetooth Enabled Devices
Beforeit canconnect,yourcomputermustfirstdetectother
Bluetoothenableddevicesinrange.
InitiateaDeviceSearch
1.MakesurethattheBluetoothenableddeviceyouwishto
connecttoisturnedon,withsufficientbatterypower,and
setindiscoverablemode.Haveany necessarypasskeysready.
Ifnecessary,you mayalsoneedtoenabletheserviceyou
want touseontheremotedevice. Refertotheremotedevice s
userdocumentationforinstructions.
Ifyouhaven tdonesoalready,youmayalsowanttoassign
thedevice aBluetoothname.Refertothedevice suserdocu-
mentation forinstructions.
2.IntheMainWindow,clickon theredballtostartthe
devicesearch.Alternatively,you canclickMyBluetooth|
MyDevice InquiryorView|RefreshDevicesorpress F5.
3. Afterafewseconds,anicon willappeararound thecenter
ballforeachBluetoothenableddevicedetectedwithinthe
radiorange.

-TheMainWindowcandisplayonlyeightdiscoveredde
vicesatatime.IfBlueSoleildiscoveredmorethaneight
devices,usethescrollbartoviewtheremainingdevices
discoveredby BlueSoleil.
-Tosortthedevicesby device name,device address,or
