tification plate carefully before installation, use, and
service of this product. Replace documentation imme-

This product is designed to meet the requirements

2.1Classification of important informa-

3Description
Magna Systems are for use with emergency vehicles
but is also suitable for lorries, buses, and other
vehicles. MagnaTrack ST is an exhaust extraction sys-
tem for emergency stations. It serves one vehicle
per installed system and is particularly well suited
for vehicles with exhaust pipes located beneath, at
the back or on the side, that is, low level (LL) exhaust
pipes. MagnaTrack ST is available in lengths from 6 m
(20 ft) to 12 m (40 ft).

4.1Pre-installation
heck the unit for any transport damage. In case of
damage or missing parts, notify the carrier and your
local Nederman representative immediately.
See Figure2.
Before MagnaTrack ST can be installed, a suitable po-
sition must be determined in relation to the vehicle’s
parking space in the station. The vehicle’s parking pos-
ition must be on the opposite side of the rail.
The distance from the floor to the bottom edge of the
rail should normally be 3–4 m (10–13 ft). The rail is to
be installed at least 0.3 m (1 ft) from walls, pillars etc.
The distance from the rail’s leading edge to the sta-
tion door should be as short as possible. Make sure the
door can open freely without interference to the rail.
If MagnaTrack ST is to be used between two vehicles,
the distance between the vehicles must be at least 1.2
m (4 ft).
The entire system is to be protected against rain.
WARNING!Risk of personal injur
When mounting MagnaTrack ST, check that the
system will not snag protruding parts on the
vehicle when driving in or out.
4.2Rail, trolle , hose and cable
See Figure3.
• Fasten the mounting chains, approximately 2,4 m (8
ft) apart, in every other profile. Place all the rail pro-
files in line with each other on the floor, as shown
in the figure. Screw the profiles together with the
lengthening joints.

When mounting the rail, ensure that suitable fixing
bolts are used considering the ceiling construction
material and the traction forces in the suspension
points.
• Lift the whole rail and fit it in the ceiling. The mount-
ing devices are to be fixed in bars, brackets or similar
arrangements according to the examples. The first
and the last mounting bracket should be braced,
see items 1 and 2. All mounting brackets are to be
braced with bracing bars positioned sideways ac-
cording to item 3 or 4.

• For rail lengths under 9.5m (31 ft): Fit the duct con-
nector over a rail joint as near the middle of the rail
as possible.
• For rail lengths from and above 9.5m (31 ft): Fit the
duct connector within the maximum distance from
from the rear end according to item Y. Item X indic-
ates the full action range.

• Mount the additional hose suspension (if applic-
able), the trolley with balancer and fit the balancer
cord in the 90°-bend.
See Figure9.
1 Fit the microswitch on the front part of the guide
track according to item 1. The exact distance from
the front edge of the guide track must be checked
according to the installation checklist, see Sec-
tion4.7Installation checklist.
2 Fit the cable on the top of the guide track accord-
ing to item 2.
3 Fit the shock absorber in the front edge of the
guide track according to item 3.
4 Fit screw and nut at the back edge of the guide
track according to item 4.
4.3Exhaust pipe
See Figure10. The pipe is to be straight and lie flush
with or protrude slightly out from the side of the
vehicle. Also, note the minimum distances from the
bottom of the coachwork and the back wheel. It is pos-
sible that modifications may be required to the ex-
haust system of the vehicle to ensure the optimum
position of the exhaust pipe.
4.4Anchor plate
See Figure10. The anchor plate is to be fitted to the
side of the vehicle 600 mm (2 ft) from the exhaust
pipe. If necessary this distance can be changed (+100
mm (4 in), –25 mm (–1 in)) by loosening the adjusting
screw in the electromagnetic unit, see Figure11 item
X.
4.5Nozzle: EPDM
See Figure11.
1 Fit the nozzle leaf spring in the electromagnet-
ic unit with the adjusting screw as shown in the
figure. Fit the hose in the magnetic unit with
the hose clip and cover with the rubber ring.
heck that the nozzle, when not connected to the
vehicle, is pointing forward in the driving direc-
tion.
2 To adjust the nozzle after fitting the anchor plate,
use the adjusting screw marked X to move the leaf
spring some upwards or downwards.
NOTE!
If the leaf spring is moved upwards it must not
come in contact with the upper hose. If nec-
cessary its upper end should be cut off.
See Figure12 item A or B.
• Locate the nozzle on to the exhaust pipe and secure
the electromagnetic unit on the anchor plate mak-
ing sure the hose is tensioned correctly. The hose

should form a 90° bend coming out from the ex-
haust pipe.
4.6Electrical installation
See wiring diagram in Figure13. onnection to the
mains is to be carried out by a qualified electrician.

4.7Installation checklist
When the mechanical assembly, fan connection and
electrical installation of MagnaTrack ST is complete,
the system is ready for use after double-checking the
following points:
1 heck the disconnection procedure. The extrac-
tion hose should disconnect from the exhaust pipe
immediately before the station door opening at
normal speed, not more than 15 km/h (10 mph).
Adjust the disconnection position by moving the
disconnection magnet on the front rail, see Fig-
ure9.
2 heck that the hose lifts away correctly after dis-
connection and that it does not touch the station
floor. When required, adjust the balancer lifting
power, see Section6.1.2Balancer.
3 heck that the hose and the nozzle do not catch
any part of the vehicle or the station door.
4heck the airflow (400–1000 m3/h, 250–600 cfm)
in the nozzle opening with an airflow indicator. If
required, check the fan impeller rotation direction
and/or damper function.
5 heck the electrical installation (transformer, mi-
cro switch, magnet) according to the wiring dia-
gram, see Figure13.
4.8Fans
Fans are not included in the basic package. For the
best results, one fan per extraction unit is recommen-
ded. It is also possible to connect several units to a
central fan.
To get negative pressure in the ducting system and
avoid exhaust leakage, the fan is to be positioned as
near the duct outlet from the room as possible.
Please contact your Nederman representative for ad-
vice on fan selection.
NOTE!
A lockable safety switch is recommended for
the electrical system including the fan.

WARNING!Risk of personal injur
• The system must only be used in combination
with the anchor plate which should be moun-
ted on the vehicle.
• Do not extract hot, burning or ignited mater-
ial or substances that might react with parts
or materials from the suction system.
• The system must not be used when working
on the vehicle´s fuel system, when rechar-
ging the batteries or whenever there is a risk
for inflammable dust or explosive gases.
• The system must be disconnected and must
not be exposed for water when washing the
vehicle.
• The system is designed for use only in the
direction of the length of the rail.
• The system must not be used for other pur-
poses than extracting exhausts.
• heck that there is enough suction capacity
in the extraction unit before it is connected
to the vehicle’s exhaust pipe. If not, check the
fan impeller rotation direction and/or damper
function. If necessary check the installation
of the fan start switch.
• heck that the nozzle is correctly fitted to
the exhaust pipe after the vehicle has been
moved.
• heck that the hose or nozzle will not snag on
any protruding parts on the vehicle.
• Repair of damaged cables or other electric-
al components should be done by a qualified
electrician. If the power cable failed, please
replace only with the same type.
• The flexible hose can withstand 150 ° (300
°F). Use at higher temperatures will shorten
the life of the product. Therefore, avoid tasks
that require extended periods of continous
running which will generate high exhaust
temperatures.
5.1Connection
NOTE!
The hose should always be connected to the
exhaust pipe while the vehicle is parked in the
station.

EN 1 Open the station door and start the exhaust ex-
traction fan (as an alternative the fan can be con-
nected to an automatic start/stopsystem).
2 Reverse the vehicle in so that the exhaust pipe is
just at the station door, see Figure14.
3 Locate the nozzle of the flexible hose on the ex-
haust pipe. Fasten the electromagnetic unit onto
the anchor plate located on the side of the vehicle,
see Figure12.
4 Reverse the vehicle into its parking space.
5.2Disconnection
1 Make sure the hose is connected to the exhaust
pipe and that it is firmly fastened to the anchor
plate on the vehicle’s side.
2 Start the fan and open the station door. Drive the
vehicle straight out from the garage with a maxim-
um speed of 15 km/h (10 mph). The hose automat-
ically disconnects when the vehicle is driven out.
If the magnet does not disconnect as it should, it will
be pulled off the anchor plate by the hose without
damage to the system. This may cause the nozzle to
sway more than normally. Approx. 800 N (176 lbs) is
required to pull the magnet off the anchor plate.
A manual disconnection from the anchor plate is pos-
sible with a switch on the electromagnet unit.
6Maintenance
WARNING!Risk of personal injur
A dust filter mask should be used during ser-
vice and repairs inside the system, especially
when working on the nozzle and hose.
NOTE!
The service intervals in this chapter are based
on the unit being professionally maintained.
6.1Check points
See Section3.1Main parts.
6.1.1Check these points when needed
• The nozzle's internal contact surface. lean with a
dry cloth when necessary.
• The electromagnetic operation. heck the attach-
ment with the connector and use a dry cloth to clean
the magnet and anchor plate on the vehicle when
necessary.
• Disconnection position. The extraction hose should
disconnect from the exhaust pipe immediately be-
fore the station door opening at normal speed, not
more than 15 km/h (10 mph). Adjust the discon-
nection position by moving the micro switch on the
front rail, see Figure9.
• The operation of the balancer, make sure that the
hose lifts up properly. If necessary, adjust the lifting
power of the balancer. See Section6.1.2Balancer.
• The cord on the balancer.
• heck that the trolley moves easily in the whole
length of the rail.
• heck the mounting brackets.
• The hoses.
6.1.2Balancer
Maintenance and inspection
The balancer is designed to require little maintenance.
Periodically check cord and hanger for wear. The bal-
ancer is lubricated for life and requires no additional
lubrication.
NOTE!
When changing the cord, the balancer must
first be removed from its support device and all
its spring tension must be released.
WARNING!Risk of personal injur
• Never overtighten the spring so the end posi-
tion can be reached.
• Never remove the spring from the drum and
spring assembly. Replacement springs are
sealed for safety.
See Figure15.
Increasing spring tension
NOTE!
Do not overtighten the balancer! Use just
enough tension so it will retract the hose.
• Turn the mainshaft (1) with a wrench in a counter-
clockwise direction. Turn mainshaft 1/4 turn (1-
click) at a time until desired tension is achieved.
Decreasing spring tension
1 Turn the mainshaft (1) with a wrench in a counter-
clockwise direction just enough to release tension
lock lever (2).
2 Push tension lock lever (2).
3 Slowly allow mainshaft to turn clockwise and re-
lease tension lock lever before allowing mainshaft
to rotate 1/4 turn (1-click).
4 Repeat this process until desired tension is
achieved.
5 If the spring tension has been increased check
that the required length of the cable can be drawn
out without stretching the spring to the limit.
