EVC 13
In order to get the ultimate benefit from your EVC 13 we
recommend that you read through this Installation and
Maintenance Instruction. EVC 13 is intended for houses
with water based heating.
The electric boiler is installed horizontally, suitably on
an electric water heater in a “cabinet model” design, for
example, NIBE COMPACT. The electric boiler is pre-
pared for centralised load control, has an integrated
load monitor and an accessory is available for tariff
control of an electric water heater, which can be pow-
ered directly from the boiler. The controls are collected
and well-arranged on the front panel.
EVC 13 is a swedish made high quality electric boiler of-
fering a long life span and safe operation.

Principle of operation
EVC 13 has an outdoor temperature controlled boiler
temperature which is why a shunt valve is not re-
quired. The outside temperature sensor is supplied.
The output is connected and disconnected with the
help of two contactors and two relays. EVC 13 has an
integrated circulation pump, expansion vessel, safety
valve, tapping valve, load monitor and an input for
centralised load control. Current regulations require
the heating installation to be inspected before it is
commissioned. The inspection must be carried out by
a suitably qualified person and should be document-
ed. The above applies to electric boilers with a closed
expansion vessel. The installation must be inspected
again if the boiler or the expansion vessel are re-
placed.

Offset heating curve
The setting control is used to increase or de-
crease the heating, see the section “Settings”
- “Changing the room temperature”.
Heating curve selection
The setting is dependent on the geographical
location and the type of heating system. See
the section “Settings” - “Default setting” for the
correct setting.
Night change
This control is used to change the heating dur-
ing a specific period of the day. The change is
enabled and disabled according to the times
set on the clock, also see “Selector”.
Indicator lamps
■The top lamp is on when the immersion
heater is connected.
■The lower lamp is on:
– When the electrical output is limited
due to an overloaded main fuse.
– The first two hours after the start of
the boiler.
– When centralised load control is
activated, if fitted.
■Alternately flashing lamps indicate that the
outdoor sensor is not connected correctly
(short-circuited cable or breakage).
Clock
The clock is used to manually set the times for
enabling and disabling the selected “Night
change”, also see under “Selector”.
Fuse
Fuse (2.5 A) for control and the circulation
pump.

Night change permanently active.

0 The boiler is completely switched off.
1 Summer mode
Only the clock and any tariff control of the
hot water heater are operational.
2 Heating mode
Normal operating mode, all functions con-
nected.
3 Standby mode
This position is used in the event of operat-
ing disturbances. The boiler/ flow tempera-
ture is then regulated by “Max thermostat”.
The circulation pump and immersion heater
are operational. The immersion heater is
limited to 6 kW.
A connected hot water heater is voltage fed.
Boiler temperature
The gauge shows the current boiler tempera-
ture, which is the same as the flow temperature.
Boiler pressure
The system/boiler pressure is shown here.
Gauge graduation is 0 - 4 bar. Normal pressure
is 0.5 - 1.5 bar.

The indoor temperature depends on several factors.
During the hot season, solar radiation and heat given
off by people and equipment are sufficient to keep the
house warm. When it gets colder outside, the heating
system must be started. The colder its gets, the hotter
the radiators must be.
This adjustment is made automatically, however the
basic settings must first be made on the boiler (see
below).
The basic heating is set with the Heating curve selec-
tion knob and with the Offset heating curve knob.
If you do not know the correct settings use the basic da-
ta from the map opposite. If the required room tempera-
ture is not obtained, readjustment may be necessary.
NOTE! Wait one day between settings so that the tem-
peratures have time to stabilise.

Cold weather conditions
If the room temperature is low, increase the heating
curve selection setting by one step.
If the room temperature is high, reduce the heating
curve selection setting by one step.
Warm weather conditions
If the room temperature is low, turn the Offset heat-
ing curve knob one step clockwise.
If the room temperature is high, turn the Offset heat-
ing curve knob one step anticlockwise.

Changing the room temperature manually.
If you want to temporarily or permanently lower or
raise the indoor temperature relative to the previously
set temperature, turn the
“Offset heating curve” knob
anticlockwise or clockwise. One scale marking corre-
sponds to a change of about one degree in the room
temperature.
Timer controlled change in the room temperature.
The “Night change” knob is used when you would like
to lower or increase the room temperature during spe-
cific periods of the day. In the home position this knob
should be set to 0. A change of one scale marking cor-
responds to approximately a 1 degree change in the
room temperature. The change is active during the pe-
riods set on the clock (see section “Clock” -
“Programming the timer”).
NOTE! An increase in the room temperature may be
inhibited by the radiator or floor heating thermostats, if
so these must be turned up.

The heating control system on EVC 13 is controlled by
the outside temperature. This means that the boiler
temperature and with that also the flow temperature is
regulated in relation to the current outdoor tempera-
ture.
The relationship between outside temperature and
flow temperature is set with the “Heating curve selec-
tion” and “Offset heating curve” knobs.
First select “Offset heating curve”. A suitable value for
floor heating is -1 and for radiator systems -2.
In the diagram you then use the dimensioned outdoor
temperature for the area and the dimensioned supply
temperature of the heating system as a basis. The
heating control system's curve slope can be read
where these two values meet.
