1. OUTLINE
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
The Hi-Lutor is an option unit of the EMP-3.
Before using this unit, read the instruction manual of the EMP-3 carefully.
To use this product safely, observe the following precautions.
Nippon Instruments Corporation will not take any responsibility for accidents caused
by a user’s carelessness.
In the case of mishandling, a user may be killed or suffer a serious
injury immediately.
In the case of mishandling, a user may be killed or suffer a serious
injury.
In the case of mishandling, a user may suffer an injury or material
damage is expected.
Attach the unit to the EMP-3 main unit securely. If the unit is
not screwed, it may fall and be damaged while it is used.
If the high concentration of mercury is expected, only enter the
probe inside the contaminated area and the measurer should
measure from the non-contaminated area. It is to prevent the
contamination by mercury.
Do not measure the gas with the hydrocarbon concentration of
0.5% or higher.
If any time-change component is not replaced, original
performance may not be demonstrated.
When the pressure loss is large, the Factor changes. When the
probe filter is dirty, replace it soon.
Do not disassemble or modify the product without permission.
When it is necessary to replace a component, replace the whole
unit. It is impossible to replace a component alone.

MEASUREMENT PROCEDURE
If the high concentration of mercury is expected, only enter the
probe inside the contaminated area and the measurer should
measure from the non-contaminated area. It is to prevent the
contamination by mercury.
Do not measure the gas with the hydrocarbon concentration of
0.5% or higher.
Insert the probe from outside of the mercury
contaminated area as shown on the right to
measure mercury.
*Please use the long probe (optional) if necessary.
The measurement procedure is the same as that for the EMP-3.
When the “START”or “STOP”button on the main screen is pressed, a measurement starts
or stops, respectively.
*When the alarm is set to OFF (enter 0) and the measurement result exceed 20mg/m3, the
measurement result is displayed in gray.
* For details, see the instruction manual of the EMP-3.

MAINTENANCE WORK
When the threshold of the Hi-Lutor mercury adsorption amount (60 mg) has been exceeded,
replace it.
If a warning is issued during a measurement, suspend the measurement immediately and
replace the Hi-Lutor.
(1) Remove the Hi-Lutor and, Insert a new Hi-Lutor. (Refer to 3.1 ATTACHING
PROCEDURE)
(2) Turn EMP-3 on, press “MENU” and then “Hi-Lutor Set.”.
(3) Press “RESET”. “Total Hg”of the GLP counter is cleared.
(4) Enter the Factor written on new Hi-Lutor. (Refer to 3.3 SETTING PROCEDURE
(5) Discard the Hi-Lutor, according to the regulations, laws, etc. of each area. (Refer to 6
CAUTIONS CONCERNING DISPOSAL OF INSTRUMENT
The Factor is written when the unit is shipped from the factory. However, if the Factor may
have changed, check and determine the value according to the following procedure:
(1) Prepare standard gas in a Tedlar bag. (Example: 100 μg/m3or so)
For the procedure to prepare standard gas, see the instruction manual of the EMP-3. The
calibration kit CK-1 (option) is needed.
(2) Measure standard gas using the EMP-3 main unit alone without connecting the Hi-Lutor.
(3) Measure the same gas in the Hi-Lutor mode.
(4) Compare the measurement result obtained using the main unit alone and that in the Hi-
Lutor mode, and calculate the Factor at the time when the Hi-Lutor is used.
New Factor = Measurement Result Using Main Unit Alone
Measurement Result in Hi − Lutor Mode
(5) Register the new Factor. (Refer to “3.2 SETTING PROCEDURE”.)
