1. For Observation
The beam fr om the specimen enter s the obs erva tion tube at an angle of 12.0The
beam, pas sin g through the cbj ect tve-Ob .rthe zoomi ng varia ti on sy ste m- zt.sand I Lz" and the
fixed t ens-L, '', reaches the Pr ism "P I" where it assumes 45 °in cli nation. Via the porro -cr tsms
"Ptand Pa''
th e beam finally reaches th e eyepieces -O c". C ont inuous z oom ing variat ion
is available by means of the ZL lenses.
2. Illum inating System
Lig ht em it ted from the li ght sour ce " Q 1" proceeds in tw o dire ct ions. or:e to i llum inate
th e specimen vertica lly th ro ugh th e frosted p late "F1"and the other to be refle cted as
indicated by a
rro ws on the large re fl e ct ing mirror " M" which su rrou nds the l ight so urce .
The
ligh t refle ct ed on mirror " M~ then proceeds th rough the bow l-like f rosted plate "F !"
to illumina te the specimen fro m th e border. When the shutter " 5" is s to pped dow n, th e
vertical illumination is shut o
ff, leaving the border illumina tio n alone, i. e. the dark-field
illu
mination . Further, when the iris dia phr agm "0 " is st opped down , dark-field effe ct is
increased, because the beams
with asmall angle awi ll be stopped . On th e other hand,
li
ght emitted fr om the light source "Q!" proceeds through the condenser lens "CL" to
illuminate the specimen
fr om an ob lique dire ct ion.

\1. ASSEMBLY
1. Set the microscope onto the suppor tin g block of the arm and se cur e it tigh tly wi th
the p rov ided sc rew . (Fl g.L)

2. The head is cla mped with the head fix i ng screw.

3. Remove the eyepiece caps from the eyepiece
tubes and inse
rt pro per eyepieces.
4. Install the specimen hol der (either at the rig ht
or the le ft mount) (Fig. 3)
5. Mou nt the Epi ill um inator on to th e illum ina to r
mount on the base and tigh ten th e fi xing screw.
Insert t he plugs of
the illum inat or int o th e ja cks .

6. Ins ert the line cord into th e input terminal on t he
base, and screw it securely.
Conne ct the other plug of line cord to the AC
outlet .

2. Set the Bright /Dark Field Selector Sw it ch to the
Bposition.

c. If the specimen is out of focus, do not
move the fo cusing knob , but turn the right
dio pter ring to fo cus a gain . (Fig. 7)
d. Now, turn the vari able magn ificat ion indictor
ring to
~ 4" .
If the specimen is st ill out of foc us, re peat

Now both eyepiece tubas have been adjusted to meet your eye acu it y.
Remember
the index n umbers on the diopter rings, so that you can always
adjust the eyepiece tubes quickly and corr ect ly. In making dioptr ic adjustments
easier, it is ad visable to use as thin a speci men as p ossible or else to c hoo se
a specific
spot on the specimen to be used as the focusing po int .

5. Rotate the pr ism-boxes (r i ght and l eft ) to adjus t
the interpupi llary dist ance. (Fig.B)

Set the variab le magnif icat ion indicator ring
at
the required magnificatio n for observa t ion.
(Fig.9 ) Although the specimen may be once set
on the s tage, illuminat ion e ff ect may be s ligh tly
d
iffere nt depending upo n the posi ti on of the
specimen. In s
uch a case, move t he specimen
s
lightly while keeping it in foc us by th e focus ing '
knob.

7. Set the bright /dark field selector swich to D for the dark-fie ld i llumination . The iris
diaph ragm is used to adjust the angle of dark-fie ld il lumi nation. The more the i ris
diaphragm is stopped down, the more the illumination is limited, increasing the effect
of the dar k -fielb illumination .
8. For use
of the Epi i lluminator , set the se lector switc h of the power sourse unit to the
EPI posi
tion . If it is used in combination with the brightfield or darkfield i llumination ,
turn the
switch to the EPI·DIA position.
The focus ing handle of the Epi i llum inator is able to broaden or narrow down the
ill uminated area.
g. Bulb
Change:
When the bulb is broke n replace it w ith a new one in the fo llowing menner :

a. Remove the eyepieces
from the eyepiece tubes
and take off the whole microscope body fr om
the arm.
b. Remove
the specimen holder from the stage.
c. Lay down the stage, remove the socket holder
ring, and
pull out the socket. (Fig.l O)
d. Remove the
bulb by turning it countercloc k-
wise, and replace it.

@Use of Heat Absorbing Glass
This tube covers the bulb of the bright
/da rk
field illumination, and absorbs heat emitted
from the illuminator bulb.

Turn the focusing handle of the illuminator
counter-clockwise, and it will be easily released from
the illuminator. Then replace the bulb. (Fig.11)
10 . Use of Iris Diaphragm (slip-in type)
Turn up the Epi illuminator and put the iris
diaphragm on it. If you place a gem on the
diaphragm and match the aderture of the diaphragm
to the size of the gem, switching on the illuminator,
it instantly provides a simple method to examine
the gem.
