TheOptomaBC100BEmitterandOptomaZF2100LCDShutterGlassesarepreprogrammedtowork
withawidevarietyofTVsand3Dcontent.Themanualperformancetuningmodeenablesthe3D
systemperformancetobefinetuned.Warning,useofthisfeaturecanresultinimproperorundesirable
operation.
3DEmitter&GlassesPairingMode
InenvironmentswheremorethanoneOptomaBC100BEmitterispresent,OptomaZF2100Glasses
shouldbepairedwiththeemittertoensureproperoperation.ThismodealsoinvolvestheOptoma
ZF2100Glassesandisdescribedingreaterdetailinasubsequentsection.
SetPolarityMode
Thismodeallowsmanualsettingoflenspolarity.Duringnormaloperationleftlenswillopenwhen
risingsyncedgeisdetected.Polaritycanbereversedsothatrightlenswillopenwhenrisingsyncedge
isdetected.
FactoryDefaultsMode
IntheeventthattheOptomaBC100BEmitterisnotworkingproperlyandothertroubleshooting
methodshavefailed,usetheResettoFactoryDefaultsmodetoattemptrecoveryofproperoperation.

Itispossiblethatthe3Dimage,althoughperfectlyclearandfreeofghosting,looksincorrectorshows
nodepth.Thepolaritycouldbereversed,whichmeanstheleftlensisopenwhentherighteyeimageis
beingdisplayed–thelefteyeisgettingtherightimageandviceversa.Simplyplacetheglassesupside
downoveryoureyestocheckiftheimageisnowcorrected.Ifthe3Dimageisbetter,thepolarityis
reversed.Reversalofpolaritycanbecausedbythesource,thecontentortheprojector.Thesource
equipmentorthe3Dreadyprojectormayhaveanoptiontocorrectthis.Ifnot,theOptomaBC100B
Emittercanbeusedtoreversepolarity.

Theemittermayoperateanunlimitednumberofglassesatanygiventime.However,theemittermay
choosetouniquelypairwithamaximumofeightglasses.
AfterplacingtheOptomaBC100BEmitterinpairingmode,youwillseethered“in‐search‐of‐a‐pairlight
sequence”heartbeat.
TheOptomaBC100BEmitterwillremaininpairingmodeforoneminute.Duringthattime,multiple
glassesmaybepairedwiththeOptomaBC100BEmitter.Theonlyindicationthatpairingissuccessful
willoccurattheglasses.WhentheOptomaBC100BEmittercannotpairtoanymoredevices,itwill
displaythe“allavailablepairsalreadymemorized”signalindicatedbyfiveredLED’sblinkingall‐onand
all‐offfortenseconds.Theemitterwillthenreturntonormaloperation.Thedevicemustberesetto
factorydefaultstoclearthememorizedpairlist.

Pairingtoanemitter
Withthedeviceoff,pressandholdthepowerbutton.After1‐2secondstheblueLEDwillcomeon.
(Normally,youwouldreleasethebuttonatthispointtopowerontheglasses.)Donotreleasethe
buttonaftertheblueLEDcomeson,keepholdingdownthebutton.Afterabout10secondsoftheblue
LEDonsolidtheblueLEDwillstarttopulsewiththesame“heartbeat”patternusedbytheemitterin
pairingmode.(Whenyouseetheheartbeatpattern,youmustreleasethebuttonwithin20secondsor
thedevicewillgointoRestoreFactoryDefaultsmode.)
Theglasseswillstayinpairingmodeuntiltheysuccessfullypairwithanemitter,oruntiloneminute
expires.Whileinpairingmode,theblueLEDwilldisplaythe“heartbeat”pattern.Iftheglassesfindan
emitterinpairingmode,thentheglasseswillpairwiththeemitterandresumenormaloperationas
describedin.Ifanemitterisnotfoundinpairingmode,theglasseswillnotoperatebutwillcontinueto
displaythe“heartbeat”patternuntiltheemitterisplacedintopairingmode,atwhichpointtheglasses
willpairandbeginnormaloperatingmodeimmediately.Iftheemitterisnotplacedinpairingmode,the
glasseswillstayinpairingmodeforoneminuteandthenwillpowerdown.
Pairedandunpairedglasses
Outofthebox,theglassesareunpaired.Theglasseswillbeginoperatingwiththefirstactiveemitter
theyrecognize.(Anemitterisactivewhenitisonandreceivesa3Dsignalfrom3Dprojectoror3D‐XL
converterboxwith3Dreadyprojectordisplaying3Dcontent.)Unpairedglasseswillcontinuetooperate
onlywiththesameemittertheystartedoperatingwithuntiltheyarepowereddown.Ifunpaired
glassesarebeingusedwithanemitterthatgetsturnedoff,theglasseswillautopowerdown,evenifa
differentemitterisonoristurnedon.
Unpairedglasseswilllookfortheemitterfoundduringthelastuse.Ifthepreviouslyfoundemitteris
notactive,theglasseswillstartoperatingwiththenextemitterfound.
Unpairedglassesareconvenientifyouplanontakingyourglassestoyourfriend’shouse.Simplypower
downyourglassesandbringthemtoyourfriend’shouse.Whenyoupoweryourglassesbackup,itwill
waitonesecondforyouremitterandthenstartusingyourfriend’semitter.Theprocessisreversed
whenyoubringyourglasseshome.
Pairedglasseswillnotusethesignalfromyourfriend’semitter.Oncepaired,OptomaZF2100Glasses
willonlyrecognizeandsynchronizewiththeemittertheglassesarepairedto.Thisisusefulifthereare
multipleemitterswithinrangeandyouwanttobecertainthatapairofglassesisalwaysassociatedwith
thesameemitter.
Topairglasseswithanewemitter,simplyputtheglassesbackinpairingmodealongwiththenew
emitter.Toputpairedglassesbackinunpairedmode,theglassesmustberestoredtofactorydefaults.
RestoringFactoryDefaults
Restoringapairofglassestofactorydefaultsrestoresthefactorydefaultsettingsandfirmware.This
includesputtingtheglassesintheunpairedmode.

•Afterabout20moresecondstheblueLEDwillstartblinkingrapidly.Releasethebuttonnow.
Theglasseswillrestorethefactorydefaultsettingsandfirmware.Thiscantakeseveralseconds.
Aftertheprocessiscomplete,theglasseswillresumenormaloperation.
Ifyoudonotreleasethebuttonwithin20secondsaftertheLEDbeginsrapidlyblinking,theglasseswill
poweroff.
FirmwareUpgrade
ThefirmwareversionontheOptomaZF2100Glassesisdesignedtoproperlyoperatewiththefirmware
ontheOptomaBC100BEmitter.Firmwareontheglassesisupgradedasrequiredbytheemitter.When
theemitterisupgraded,newglassesfirmwareisloadedontheemitter.Whenglassesarepoweredon
andfindtheupgradedemitter,theemittersendsthenewfirmwaretotheglassesandtheyrestart.This
processtakesseveralsecondstocomplete.TheglassesLEDwillblinkslowlywhilethenewfirmwareis
beingreceivedandwrittentomemory.Oncetheupgradeiscomplete,theglasseswillautomatically
restart.
Thefirmwareversioncanberestoredtothefactoryinstalledversionbyrestoringfactorydefaults.

AboutPerformanceTuning
BasicFunctionofShutterGlasses
Bothmovietheatersandhomeentertainmentsystemsworktogetherwithglassestoallowapersonto
lookataflatscreenandseedifferentimagesintheleftandrighteye,thusprovidingtheinformation
neededtoperceivedepth.Seeingslightlydifferentimagesineacheyeisthebasisof3Dperception.
All3Dshutterglassesstartwithanalternatingframedisplay.Analternatingframedisplayalternates
betweendisplayingframesforthelefteyeandframesfortherighteye.Shutterglassesblockthelightof
theleftframesfromreachingtherighteye,andviceversa.Inthismannereacheyereceiveseveryother
frame,andtheseriesofstillpicturesisreassembledbythemindtoproduceamovingpicture.Whenthe
sequenceofframesissentfastenough,themindwillassemblethesequenceofframestoforma
movingpicture,orinthecaseof3D,aseparatemovingpictureineacheye.ManyHDTVtelevisions
produce60framespersecondfora2DHDTVimage.Many3Dtelevisionsoperateat120Hzorfasterso
thateacheyereceivesaseparate60framespersecond.

TheOptomaZF2100shutterglassescontainlensesthatareliquidcrystaldisplays.Eachlensalternates
fromclear‐to‐darkeveryotherframe,thusmakingtheleftframelookdarktotherighteyeandvice
versa.Thenameshutterglassesisalegacyofthefirstshutterglasseswhichusedmechanicalshuttersas
onemightfindonacameraorprojector.
ManytelevisionswiththeVESA1997‐11Stereoscopicconnector(theround3DglassesEmitterport
showninthepicturebelow)behavealmostidenticallytothistiming.Forexample,manyMitsubishi3D
Televisionsincorporatethe3Dstereoscopicconnectorandbehavealmostidenticallytothistiming.
Whenattachingthedevicetothebackofthesetelevisions,thedefaultsettingsfordelayanddutycycle,
workperfectlyandperformanceisalreadyperfectlytuned.
