Note When the motor is installed to equipment using the mounting surface
of the gearhead, proper alignment between the hollow shaft inside
dimension and the load shaft is necessary. Keep the alignment tolerance
within 0.02 mm (0.0008 in.). Insucient alignment may result in damage
to the gearhead internal bearings.
Removing and assembling the gearhead
This is the procedure for when the gearhead is removed and replaced.
Removing the gearhead from the motor
Remove the hexagonal socket head screws
(4 pieces) assembling the motor and
gearhead, and detach the gearhead from
the motor.
The gures show the Hollow shaft.
Hexagonal socket head screw
Assembling the gearhead to the motor
Combine the gearhead with the motor and tighten the hexagonal socket head
screws. Check the key is tted to the motor output shaft before assembling them.
When assembling, apply anti-seizing agent such as molybdenum disulde grease on
the surface of the motor shaft and on the bore of the motor shaft input part in the
gearhead. Also, conrm that no gaps remain on the mating face of the motor and
gearhead.

5IK40, 5IK60, 5IK90 M6 5.0 N·m (44 lb-in)
Note
Do not forcibly assemble the motor and gearhead. The motor output
shaft or the gearhead input part may be damaged, resulting in noise
or shorter service life.
Do not allow dust to attach to the pilot sections of the motor and
gearhead.
The hexagonal socket head screws assembling the motor and
gearhead are used to attach the motor and gearhead temporarily. Be
sure to use the supplied mounting screw set to install the motor.
zMotor with cooling fan
When installing a motor with cooling fan onto a device, leave 10 mm (0.39 in.) or
more behind the fan cover or open a ventilation hole so that the cooling inlet on the
back of the motor cover is not blocked.
zMounting the capacitor
Mount the capacitor securely by using M4 screws
(not provided).
Ø4.3 mm
(0.169 in.)
Note
Do not let the screw fastening torque exceed 1 N·m (8.8 lb-in) to
prevent damage to the mounting foot.
Mount capacitor at least 10 cm (3.94 in.) away from the motor. If it is
located closer, the life of the capacitor will be shortened.
 Installing a load to the hollow shaft type
Mounting method of the load varies depending on the load shaft conditions.
See the
following gures.
The hollow output shaft inside dimension is processed to a tolerance of H8, and
incorporates a key slot for load shaft attachment. A load shaft tolerance of h7 is
recommended. Also, apply anti-seizing agent such as molybdenum disulde grease,
on the surface of the load shaft and the bore of the hollow output shaft in order to
prevent seizure.
A load can be installed to the hollow output shaft from either right face or left face in

 Installing a load to the solid shaft type
The gearhead output shaft has been machined
to an outer diameter tolerance of h7 and
provided with a key slot for connecting the
transmission parts.
When connecting the transmission parts, ensure
that the shaft and parts have a clearance t, and
always x the parallel key to the output shaft
with a screw to prevent the parts from rattling
or spinning.

Note Do not apply excessive force onto the output shaft of the gearhead
using a hammer or other tools. Doing so may cause damage to the
output shaft or bearings.
 Permissible radial load and permissible axial load
The radial load and axial load have a great inuence on the life of the bearings and
strength of the shaft. Do not exceed the permissible radial load and permissible axial
load. Refer to Website for details.
Connection
Insulate all the wire connections such as the connecting part between the motor
lead wires and the power supply.
zConnecting Protective Earth Terminal

Be sure to ground the product using the Protective Earth
Terminal on the motor.
Applicable crimp terminal:

 Wiring diagram
The rotation direction of the combination type varies depending on the gear ratio of
the gearhead. Check the motor model name and the gear ratio before connecting.
Models for the gear ratio and the round shaft type rotate as shown in
the connection diagram.

zContact protection
In order to protect contacts, connecting a CR circuit for surge suppression is
recommended. It is provided as an accessory (sold separately).
Model: EPCR1201-2
 Capacitor connection
When crimp terminals are used, use the FASTON
terminals 187 Series (TE Connectivity).
Use the supplied capacitor cap to insulate the capacitor
terminal connection.
Capacitor
187 series
Capacitor cap
Note For lead wire connection, use one lead wire
for each individual terminal.
Operation
The motor rotates when the power supply is turned on. For protection against
electric shock, do not turn on the power supply until the wiring is complete.
Note
Make sure that the motor case temperature does not exceed 90 °C (194 °F)
when operating the motor. Operation exceeding case temperature
90 °C (194 °F) may signicantly deteriorate the coils and ball bearings of
the motor and shorten the motor's life span. Motor case temperature can
be measured by xing a thermometer on the motor surface. It can also be
measured using thermo tape or a thermocouple.
When an ambient temperature is low, since the load torque may
increase by the viscosity increment of the oil seal or grease, the motor
starting may take a long time or the motor rotation speed may fall.
Use a supplied capacitor, and always keep it connected even after the
motor is started.
Do not forcibly stop the shaft rotation of gearhead by an external
force. Stopping in such a way may cause impact, leading to damage to
the gearhead.
