Color Extraction and Displaly Image
Specifying the particular color in the color image is called "Color Extraction." At this point, specified color is called "Extracted
color". The specified part in the image is called "Extracted part" and not specified part is called "Not Extracted part."
You can register 8 colors (Group A to H) in one product type. (Fig.1)
A color extracted image is called an extracted image and an inspection is executed based on this image.
To switch the display image, press the B key in the setting mode and select "Display Color..." and then specify the group to be
displayed. (Fig. 2)
Displaying the extracted image, only the extacted part is colored and others (Not Extracted part) are displayed in gray-
scale.(Fig.3)

The color information data captured by the CCD camera are converted into three color attributes, Hue,
Saturation and Luminosity which are closer to the human sense. The AX40 extracts the color and executes an
inspection based on this color system.
The AX40 ensures the high accuracy image processing not only using the color extraction processing but also
using the Gray scale processing and the Differential processing together.

AX40 uses the L*C*h color system converted from the RGB data of
the image. Fig.4 shows the image of the three attributes, Hue,
Luminosity and Saturation, in L*C*h color sytem.
Hue: The Color such as red, blue or yellow.
Luminosity: The lightness of color such as light or dark.
Saturation: The vividness of color such as dull or vivid.
Fig.5 shows the ring image of Hue which is called the color circle.
By registering two different parts, the fruit part of the below apple will be extracted.
The extracted color has its color range. The actual range of the extracted color is specified across three attributes, Hue, Luminosity
and Saturation. In this case of Fig.6 shows and explains the Hue only.
Fig.7 explains how the specified color is deleted in the extracted color range.
The specified color and colors in the smaller range (in the figure shows "a") are going to be deleted. This may give you unexpected
color to be deleted. By this, the display image is immediately reflected with this change. Note that you may not get the desired image.

The window size can be changed in 1x1 to 32x32 pixels.(Only available when New, Add or Delete.)
The bigger window ensures to widen the range of extraction color at a time. This is effective to extract the mottled color
objects like the apple below or to extract the part which is too small to be specified.

3. A start mark is displayed. Adjust the size and press the
ENTER key to determine, and then the mark moves
diagonally, if you wish to re-size, adjust it again and
press the ENTER key.

The inspection procedure is mainly devided into 5 steps. Setting items may vary depending on the
environmental condition, inspection types and checker types.
This manual mainly explains the step 4 Checker settings, basic and applied operation using the color extraction.
Regarding with the details of checkers, input/output from the external devices and the communication, refer to
the User's manual (Hardware and Operation).

Up to 16 product types can be set.
1Setting the image processing
Select the type of the image processing from "Color", "Gray" or "Differential" for the inspection
image to be set on "Memory1" and "Memory2".
Note that the default setting is "Color" for both Memory1 and Memory2.
Up to 99 (No.1 to No.99) can be set.
Press the A key to capture.
Specify the checker no.

Basic Operation
* The specified number of adjustment checkers should be set smaller than the ones of
inspection checkers in sequence. This enables adjustment checkers to follow the
inspection checkers.
** Note that checkers in gray color cannot be selected. Available checkers can be
determined by the initial settings of "Memory1" and "Memory2."

Before starting the color extraction, set "Color" from ENVIRONMENT menu > Initial Settings > Memory1.
Register the new extraction color in Group A with using a FEATURE EXTRACTION checker.
1. Register New Extraction Color
The Group Select window appears and select "Modify".
The Modify window appears and select "A". Then, press the ENTER key.
1. Select "Group Select" in the Inspection tab.
A sub window appears and select "New". Then, press the ENTER key.
When the color specify window appears, move it to the color part you want to extract
and press the ENTER key. The extracted part is displayed in light blue. Repeat this
operation until the part you want to extract is full filled in light blue. If you wish to return
to the previous extraction status, press the C key and select "Undo".
When you have finished extracting, press the C key twice and register the extraction
color as following to the message. It returns to The FEATURE EXTRACTION window.
(Registering the new extraction color in A is completed.)

* If there is "black" in the object, it seems to be extracted.
But this is because of the AX40's default setting, it will never affect
when you register the new extraction color. So, please continue the procedure.

Basic Operation
Select : Use when selecting the already registered
extraction color.
Modify: Use when registering the new extraction color
and modify the already registered extraction
color.
Add : Adds the extraction color.
Widen Lumi.: Enhances the luminosity range by 10.
Delete : Deletes the already specified extraction
color.
Adjust : Adjusts the already registered extraction
color, by entering a value of Hue, Luminosity
and Saturation.
Undo : Returns to the previous extraction status.
(Up to 9 times)
A to H : When the extraction color is already registered, the
extracted part in the image on the screen is displayed.
2. Select the group (A to H) to be registered.

Before starting the color extraction, set "Color" from the ENVIRONMENT menu> Initial Setttings> Memory1.
Specify the extraction color "A" into "B" by switching in the "Group Select"
Modify the existing extraction color "A" by adding or deleting.

The "Select" window is displayed, and select "B".
Confirm the item "Group Select" is displayed "B" at the inspection tab.
A sub window is displayed, select "Add" or "Delete" and press the the
ENTER key.
1. Choose "Select" from the "Group Select."
2. The window returns to the checker menu.

2. Specify the part you want to add or delete with the color specify window.
The extraction is completed.

key. If you wish to return to the previous extraction status, press the C key and select
"Undo". When you have finished extracting, press the C key twice and register the
extraction color as following to the message. It returns to The FEATURE EXTRACTION

4. Modifying the existing extraction color
Edit the extraction color "A" by entering the value of Hue, Saturation and Luminosity.
The information of the extraction color can be confirmed and adjusted.
An Adjust window appears. To confirm the value of three attributes, see the central value (-C)
in each attribute.To adjust the value, select the item you want to change its value and press
the ENTER key.
When the value is changed, any changes are immediately reflected to the current extraction
color and extracted image so that you can confirm.
2. Confirm the values and adjust them.
Select "Adjust" from the subwindow.
1. Select "A" from the Modify window.
Lumi.-C : The value of Luminosity. (0 to 266)
Lumi.-R : The range of which the Lumi.-C is the median.
Satu.-C : The value of Saturation. (0 to 582)
Satu.-R : The range of which the Satu.-C is the median.
Hue-C : The value of Hue. (-180 to 180)
Hue-R : The range of which the Hue-C is the median.

Edit the extraction color "A" by adjusting the range of Luminosity.
5. Editing (Widen. Lumi.) the existing extraction color
A sub window is displayed and select "Widen Lumi."
1. Select "A" from the Modify window.
Pressing the ENTER key once enables to increase the value by 10.
To return to the previous extraction status, press the C-key and select "Undo".
When having finished extracting, press the C-key to register the color.
The display returns to the checker menu. (Editing the extraction color is completed.)
"Widen Lumi." is to widen the range of Luminosity to adjust the extraction color.
It's easier to adjust the range of Luminosity only comparing to adjust entering the value on
the Adjust window. Just pressing the ENTER key can change the value by 10.

For your convenience, it can be displayed the color/tone bars for each attributes when adjusting them.

3. The extracted image is dissapeared and the color/tone bars appear.
At this point, you can also change the value. As you change the value, the sliders are
immediately reflected and move. The current extraction color is also reflected and changed.
Each slider shows the median and its range.To return to the extracted image, press the C key.
2. When "Image/Tone" is displayed, press the ENTER
key.

Menu WIndows
You can choose "Solid" or "Translucent" for the background status for the menu and each windows.
"Translucent" is effective when you set the items as confirming the inspection image. "Solid" is effective when you enter the value
so that you can read the letters in the window easily.
Area Display Color
The "Area" has two kinds. One is for the "Inspection Area" and another is for the "Mask Area." The mask area can be set up to
16. The display color of the currently selected area is "Orange" and it can be moved or changed. (Fig.9)
When the area setting is completed, the inspection area is displayed in "Green" and the mask area is in "Blue" (Fig.10)

You are goint to inspect the eye shadow palette with 6 colors which are difficult to identify with the gray scale image
processing. The inspection is detects the area value of the color in the set region whether each color is placed at
right position or not. In order not to be affected by the deviation of the object in the field of view, Set the position
adjustment checker (GRAY EDGE) to follow its deviation. Use the BINARY WINDOW checker for each 6 colors to
measure the area value. Then, set the value of OK Judgement Max. and Min. to the area value, and then, set the
caluculation formula to be output, then start inspecting.
Select and set items as shown right for initial
settings .
Select the product type to be inspected from
TYPE menu.
Press A-key to capture the image into the memory.
Set checker No.1 for the POS. ADJ. (GRAY EDGE)
checker. And then, set the six BINARY WINDOW
checkers for each six color through No.2 to No.7.

The display image is switched into the gray scale.
Set the POS.ADJ.(GRAY EDGE) checker as shown
right.
Set each six BINARY WINDOW checkers (No.2 to No.7) on each six colors of the eyeshadow.

Use the Copy&Paste function of the checkers for your convenience.
Determine a value to be entered as referring the result of acceptable product.
Specify the already set position adjustment checker number.
2. Place the cursor over the Inspection tab.
1. Specify the BINARY WINDOW checker for the checker No.2.
3. Select "1" for "Memory."
5. Draw the area as shown right.
6. Select "01" for "Position Adj.".
7. Set the "OK Judge. Min." value.
4. Register the green color by the color extraction on "A" from "Group Select".
8. Repeat the step 1 to 7 above to register No.3 through No.7 checkers for extraction color B through F.

Set the program to judge the result of the inspection.
All of binary window checkers, No.2 to No.7, have resulted OK, the products are judged to be acceptable
and the green light "D1" is lightened up. If not, the products are judged to be not acceptable and the green
light "D2" is lightened up. Set the program as mentioned.
Enter the program as shown right.
When you have finished, press the C key and register the program as
following the message.

1. Select "Calcu.-Stat.-Output" from the TOOL menu.
2. Place the cursor over "Judgement" and press the ENTER key.
3. Place the cursor over "JD01" and press the B key.
4.When the cursor moves to the blank colum of Program, press the ENTER key.
5. A program window appears.
6. Place the cursor over the blank colum of Output and press the ENTER key.
7. An output window appears, and select "D1".
8. To set "JD02" as shown below, repeat step 3 to 7.

Display the total judgement of inspection result in the status
display on the scteen.
Place the cursor over "JD" and press the ENTER key.
Then, select "01".
The OK judged binary window checker is displayed in Green.
The NG judged binary window checker is displayed in Red.
All the settings of "Different Color mixture inspection" are done.
Press the A key to execute the inspection.
9. Place the cursor over "JD01" and press Bthe B key.
