3 Product Description
3.1 Use and Application
The VBA-4E4A-G20-ZEJ/M48L-P12 motor contro modu e is an AS-Interface connection mod-
u e for contro ing one or two DC ro er motors. The modu e is optimized for Interro EC5000
48V AI motors but can a so be used for compatib e DC motors.
To record statuses in the fie d environment, the modu e has two inputs for 3-wire sensors with
PNP outputs or for mechanica contacts. The input characteristic of the inputs corresponds to
type 1 according to EN 61131-2.
The motors are supp ied with power via an externa auxi iary vo tage. A nodes are supp ied via
the AS-Interface. In addition to the AS-Interface f at cab e, the auxi iary vo tage is app ied via a
second f at cab e to the motor contro modu e.
•The permissib e auxi iary current is 36 V to 56 V.
•The sensor power supp y can be oaded with 100 mA in tota .
•For each motor, a maximum current oad of 5 A is permitted brief y (< 2 s).

Motor Fuses Are Safety Fuses
Fuses with a 4-A rated current act as protection against short circuits. Each motor is
safeguarded with a fuse. The fuses are not interchangeab e. If a fuse is fau ty, the modu e must
be rep aced.

4 Installation
4.1 Storage and Transportation
Keep the origina packaging. A ways store and transport the device in the origina packaging.
Store the device in a c ean and dry environment. The permitted ambient conditions must be
considered, see datasheet.
4. Unpacking
Check the product for damage whi e unpacking. If the product shou d be damaged, inform the
post office or parce service and notify the supp ier.
Retain the origina packaging in case the device must be stored or shipped again at a ater
date.

4.3 Connecting the AS-Interface and Auxiliary Power Flat Cable
The motor contro modu e is connected to the AS-Interface network and the AUX auxi iary
power supp y via the AS-Interface f at cab e. The ye ow f at cab e is for communication and the
b ack f at cab e is for the AUX auxi iary vo tage. The permissib e auxi iary vo tage is 36–56 V.
Contact between the motor contro modu e and f at cab es is estab ished via two meta piercing
pins and requires insu ation piercing techno ogy. The f at cab es are routed through a hinged
cab e guide. When c osed, the cab e guide is ocked by a ocking bracket and can be opened
again without too s.
The profi ed f at cab es are narrow on top (with a visib y offset profi e edge) and wide under-
neath (profi e edge not visib e). The cab e guide a ows the f at cab es to be inserted on either
side, enab ing f at cab es that are a ready aid in cab e ducts to be connected f exib y. However,
it is important to ensure that the profi e edge a ways points toward the motor contro modu e.
The mechanica reverse po arity protection prevents the cab e guide from c osing comp ete y if
the f at cab e is inserted incorrect y.
Connecting Flat Cables on the Narrow Side
The profi e edge is visib e from above.
1. Open the cab e guide by pushing the ocking bracket (1) s ight y to the side.
. Insert the b ack AUX f at cab e with the profi e edge (4) pointing toward the motor contro
modu e into the ower guide (see the "B ack AUX" marking on the modu e).
3. Insert the ye ow AS-Interface f at cab e with the profi e edge (3) pointing toward the motor
contro modu e into the upper guide (see the "YELLOW" marking on the modu e).
4. Make sure that the profi e edges of both f at cab es are under the respective reverse po arity
protection (2, 5).
Caution!
If a f at cab e is inserted incorrect y, the motor contro modu e wi not work.
If the f at cab e is inserted in the cab e guide in the wrong direction, the vo tage is inverted. The
motor contro modu e wi not work. However, the interna e ectrica reverse po arity protection
protects it from damage.
Tip
Use the mounting aid VAZ-G20-MH to faci itate c osing the cab e guide.

Flat Cable Inserted Incorrectly
The figure be ow shows an examp e where the f at cab e has been inserted incorrect y. The pro-
fi e edge (2) does not point toward the motor contro modu e, so the f at cab e is inserted with
reverse po arity. The f at cab e is curved and positioned above the reverse po arity protection
(1), which means that the cab e guide cannot be c osed comp ete y (mechanica reverse po ar-
ity protection).

AS-Interface modu es are usua y addressed with a handhe d device. Connect the VAZ-
PK/G20-1M-V1-G adapter cab e to the VBP-HH1-V3.0 handhe d.
5.1 AS-Interface Communication
Assignment of AS-Interface data bits
4 data bits are avai ab e for communication to take p ace between the motor contro modu e
and the master. 4 data bits are avai ab e for contro ing the motors.
The fo owing designations app y be ow:
•DI0 to DI3 for AS-Interface input data (motor contro modu e to master)
•DO0 to DO3 for AS-Interface output data (master to motor contro modu e)
DI0 to DI03 motor control module to master
DO0 to DO3 master to motor control module
AS-Interface Communication Monitoring
The motor contro modu e has a watchdog function. If there has been no communication with
the master for more than 40 ms, the motor contro modu e sets the output data DO0 to DO3 to
ogica 0.
Starting/Stopping the Motors (DO0, DO1)
You can start or stop the motors separate y via bits DO0 and DO1. To start the motors, you
must set the corresponding data bit to ogica 1. Via the shared SPEED contro signa , the
motor contro modu e uses an ana og vo tage va ue to actuate the respective motor that has
been switched on. The SPEED contro signa is re eased for the re evant output on y when data
bit DO0 or DO1 is set. The ana og vo tage va ue corresponds to the set speed.

Commissioning
Switching the Motor Direction of Rotation (DO )
You can switch the direction of rotation of the motors using the DIR contro signa . The direction
of rotation signa app ies to both motors. To contro the direction of rotation, you must parame-
terize data bit DO2 according y.
For Interro EC5000, ogica 0 corresponds to a direction of rotation to the eft. The motor con-
tro modu e switches the DIR contro signa to high impedance.
For Interro EC5000, ogica 1 corresponds to a direction of rotation to the right. The motor con-
tro modu e switches the DIR contro signa to AUX eve .
The direction of rotation of motor 2 can be reversed by setting parameter bit P2 to ogica 0.
Motor 2 wi then rotate in the opposite direction to motor 1.
Data Bit DO , Parameter Bit P
Switching the motor speed (DO3)
You can switch both motors to a ow speed via data bit DO3. The ow rotationa speed is deter-
mined based on the set rotationa speed.

Adjusting the Motor Speed (P0, P1)
You can adjust the speed via parameter bits P0 and P1. This a ways app ies to both motors
simu taneous y. To do this, you must parameterize one of four predefined speed va ues. The
speed va ues correspond to the ana og vo tage va ues.
If the master does not change the parameter bits when the AS-Interface network is switched
on, the fourth speed va ue (10 V) is set on the motor contro modu e by defau t.
Using data bit DO3, you can switch the rotationa speed of both motors between high and ow.
The motor contro modu e issues the set contro vo tage to the motors via the SPEED contro
signa when the motors are switched on via data bits DO0 and DO1 ( ogica 1). The motor con-
tro modu e readjusts the contro vo tage. Therefore the contro vo tage is independent of the
oad within certain imits. If the contro imits are exceeded due to an excessive oad, the motor
contro modu e issues a periphera fau t.

Reversing the Direction of Rotation of MOT (P )
You can reverse the direction of rotation of MOT2 via parameter bit P2.

The motor contro modu e transfers the switch statuses of inputs IN1 and IN2 to the master via
data bits DI0 (IN1) and DI1 (IN2).
There is a fi ter upstream of the inputs that suppresses pu ses  2 ms.

5. Configuring the Start/Stop Ramps
Overview
To contro the acce eration and to stop the motors, you can set one of eight defined start/stop
ramps for the speed signa SPEED. These ramps a ways app y to both motors simu taneous y.
The ramp duration corresponds to the time from stopped to reaching the maximum speeds or
from the maximum speeds to stopped. The inc ines of the ramps are constant for each of the
eight ramps and independent of the set speeds. The reference va ue for a ramps is the speed
signa SPEED = 10 V. For ower parameterized speeds, the ramp duration is proportiona y
shorter.

Predefined Start/Stop Ramps
The ramp is not effective if the direction of rotation signa is switched when the motor is running.
In this case, the direction of rotation is reversed immediate y.
Configuring the Start/Stop Ramps
To adjust the start/stop ramp, you must switch the motor contro modu e to configuration mode.
The motor contro modu e stores a new ramp configuration in the interna non-vo ati e memory.
This ramp is activated automatica y after each switch-on. You can reconfigure a ramp as often
as required.
The f at cab es for the AS-Interface and AUX must be connected before you can configure a
ramp. Communication must a ready be taking p ace between the master and motor contro
modu e.
The configuration sequence consists of nine steps. As part of this, defined data is transferred
via data bits DO0 to DO3 and parameter bits P0 to P2 between the master and the motor con-
tro modu e. The master must keep the data and parameter bits constant for at east 10 ms for
each step. Longer interva s are possib e as ong as a period of 10 s is not exceeded for the fo -
owing steps: 1 to 6.
The configuration of a new start/stop ramp runs in the fo owing phases:
•In steps one to six, the master sends parameter va ues to the motor contro modu e to
activate configuration mode (max. 10 s). DO0 to DO3 must have the va ue "4" for each
step.
•When the motor contro modu e is in configuration mode, the MOT1 and MOT2 LEDs start
to f ash.
•In step seven, the master sends the se ected ramp number to the motor contro modu e
via DO0 to DO3.
•In step eight, the master sends the parameter va ue "4" to the motor contro modu e via P0
to P2. The motor contro modu e stores the ramp number in the non-vo ati e memory.
•In step nine, the master exits configuration mode. The master sends the data va ue "0" via
DO0 to DO3 and the data va ue "7" via P0 to P2. The motor contro modu e switches to
norma mode. The MOT1 and MOT2 LEDs stop f ashing.
