1.4 Intended Use
The AS-Interface motor contro modu e is used to contro one or two DC ro er Interro EC5000
48V AI motors or compatib e types. The motor contro modu e has two inputs for connecting 3-
wire sensors.

mounting, or operating.

Insta ation and commissioning of a devices may be performed on y by trained and qua ified
personne .
It is dangerous for the user to make changes and/or repairs. Additiona y, doing so voids the
warranty and exc udes the manufacturer from any iabi ity. In the event of any serious errors,
stop using the device. Secure the device against unintended operation. To have the device
repaired, return it to your oca Pepper +Fuchs representative or your sa es center.

Technical Data and Environmental Conditions
This device is for indoor use on y.
This device may be operated in a titudes up to 5000 m.
The ambient temperature range is from -25 °C to +70 °C.
The device must be insta ed in accordance with app icab e nationa aws and regu ations.
The externa circuit breaker or fuse that sha be connected to the Interface AUX+ and AUX-
sha be rated min. 60Vdc, max. 20A.
Circuit Breaker: UL489, CSA C22.2 No. 5, DIVQ and DIVQ7.
Fuse: UL248, CSA C22.2 No. 248, JDDZ and JDDZ7.
If the device is used in a manner not specified by the manufacturer, the protection provided by
the equipment may be impaired.
The device is maintenance-free.

3 Product Description
3.1 Use and Application
The VBA-4E4A-G20-ZEJ/M48L-P12 motor contro modu e is an AS-Interface connection mod-
u e for contro ing one or two DC ro er motors. The modu e is optimized for Interro EC5000
48V AI motors but can a so be used for compatib e DC motors.
To record statuses in the fie d environment, the modu e has two inputs for 3-wire sensors with
PNP outputs or for mechanica contacts. The input characteristic of the inputs corresponds to
type 1 according to EN 61131-2.
The motors are supp ied with power via an externa auxi iary vo tage. A nodes are supp ied via
the AS-Interface. In addition to the AS-Interface f at cab e, the auxi iary vo tage is app ied via a
second f at cab e to the motor contro modu e.
•The permissib e auxi iary current is 36 V to 56 V.
•The sensor power supp y can be oaded with 100 mA in tota .
•For each motor, a maximum current oad of 5 A is permitted brief y (< 2 s).

The operating status of the motor contro modu e is disp ayed via 12 LEDs.
Status Indicators for AS-Interface and Power Supply
The PWR LED and the FAULT LED show the AS-Interface operating status. Various fau t sta-
tuses are disp ayed as a co ective error message "Periphera fau t."

Status Indicators for Motor Fuses
The FUSE1 LED for motor 1 and the FUSE2 LED for motor 2 show the status of the power sup-
p ied to the motors.

Note
Motor Fuses Are Safety Fuses
Fuses with a 4-A rated current act as protection against short circuits. Each motor is
safeguarded with a fuse. The fuses are not interchangeab e. If a fuse is fau ty, the modu e must
be rep aced.
