Introduction
The Cellesse is the result of years of research by
the Philips Personal Care Institute. Having
investigated the causes of cellulite and tested all
the various treatments available, we've now
developed the effective way to fight cellulite
you're looking for.
This booklet explains what causes cellulite and
describes how the Cellesse can help you solve
this typically feminine problem.
Important: Before you start using the appliance,
please take the time to read this booklet
thoroughly (especially the section headed 'Read
carefully before using Cellesse).
Cellulite - a typically feminine problem.
C◗Cellulite is the name given to bumpy, pitted
skin that arises when lumpy fat deposits
situated just under the skin become visible.
Because of its appearance, it's often called
"orange peel skin".
Cellulite only affects certain parts of the body,
particularly the hips, thighs and buttocks.
Cellulite is the result of two things: the mattress-
like structure of women's skin and the tendency
to retain fluid in the body.

Men and women have different skin structures.
Women's skin naturally has a mattress-like
structure. Fat is deposited in 'pockets' that stand
at right angles to the surface, giving a structure
that resembles a mattress with springs.This
mattress-like structure becomes clearly visible
when the skin is squeezed. As a result of their skin
structure, all women run the risk of developing
cellulite.
C◗Fluid retention
In most cases, the mattress-like structure
becomes visible as a result of excess fluid in the
fat layer.Women tend to retain more fluid than
men, especially in their legs. Excess fluid may
accumulate around the fat cells and cause the
cellulite layer to swell. If this fluid retention is
allowed to continue for months or even years, the
fat deposits may thicken and harden. Eventually
they'll become hard lumps which can be seen on
the surface of the skin even when it's not
squeezed.
When it reaches an advanced stage, cellulite may
be painful when the skin is squeezed or touched.
At that point, cellulite is more difficult to reverse.
At earlier stages, however, its effects can be
considerably reduced.
Cellulite - what can you do about it?
Once developed, cellulite won't disappear or
diminish on its own. On the contrary, it's likely to

increase.The only solution is to make the fight
against cellulite part of your regular personal care
routine and to begin treatment right away, before
the problem gets worse.
The good news is that cellulite can be reduced. It
will never disappear completely, however, and will
return if you stop doing something about it.

Philips has therefore specially developed the
compact and convenient Cellesse to fight cellulite
in a effective and comfortable way.The Cellesse
gets right down to the cellulite layer within the
skin and can easily be used in the privacy of your
own home.
Cellesse massages the cellulite layer in your skin in
an intensive, pleasant way.This massage mobilises
the excess fluid, which is then removed naturally
by the body through the normal circulation and
lymphatic drainage systems.The result is a
reduction in the bumpiness of the cellulite layer
and therefore a smoother skin.
The Cellesse in action
The Cellesse has been specially developed for
those parts of the body that are prone to cellulite
(thighs, hips and buttocks).The appliance works

through a massage system that's been shown in
tests to be highly effective -Vacumotion`.
Vacumotion`works by providing a continuous
lifting and rolling movement, which massages the
cellulite layer in an intensive and pleasurable way.
It consists of two rollers with a suction opening in
between.
C◗The front roller gently picks up the skin and
guides it into the suction bell.
C◗The vacuum lifts the skin even more to form a
fold, enabling the massage to reach the
cellulite layer effectively.
C◗The two rollers, working together, give the
cellulite layer a pleasant and deep massage,
removing the main cause of cellulite - the
excess fluid surrounding the fat cells.The rear
roller then gently guides the skin away.
Following an effective treatment
programme for the best results
We recommend you to use the Cellesse three
times a week, spending 10 - 15 minutes on each
leg each time. Clinical tests have shown that this
type of regular treatment can significantly
smoothen the cellulite layer in the skin within one
month. Naturally, results will vary from individual
to individual, depending on how bad the cellulite
is to start with and on the individual's lifestyle.

Don't stop the treatment! If you do, the cellulite
layer will start to swell again after a while, as a
result of the natural tendency of women's bodies
to retain fluid.We recommend you to use the
appliance three times a week during the first two
or three months. After this time you can reduce
the frequency and follow a maintenance
programme of 15 minutes once a week or 5
minutes three times a week.This should be
enough to keep your fluid retention under
control.
Proven effective in clinical tests
Although the undesirable consequences of
cellulite are visible on the surface, its causes lie
deep inside the skin. Independent experts at the
University of Brussels carried out two types of
clinical tests to establish the effectiveness of the
Cellesse.
C◗One type of test showed that using the
Vacumotion`system only three times a week
smoothens the cellulite layer inside the skin
by up to 33% in just one month.
These tests used ultrasound scanning to measure
the bumpiness of the cellulite layer - the cause of
cellulite.
The results achieved by women using the Cellesse
were compared with those of a control group of
non-users.

Proven to visibly reduce cellulite
Additional tests showed that the Cellesse is also
highly effective on the outside of the skin,
producing visibly smoother skin.
Read carefully before using the Cellesse
Do not use the Cellesse on hypersensitive skin,
problem skin or areas with skin ailments, irritated
skin, varicose veins, scars, spots or wounds. Please
consult your doctor before using the Cellesse if
you're pregnant or have a heart condition,
diabetes or circulation problems.
Only use the appliance to massage the outside of
your thighs, hips and buttocks. Don't use it on any
other parts of the body!
Side-effects during and after use
After using the Cellesse, your skin may become
slightly red and feel rather dry. Don't worry: these
are the normal side effects of a massage as the
blood circulation improves.They should soon
disappear. If necessary, you can apply a body
lotion or cream after using the Cellesse to
moisturise the skin. If these effects do not
disappear within 24 hours or if any other
undesirable skin reaction occurs, stop using the
appliance and consult your doctor.
If you are prone to bruising or have small red
veins clearly visible, you should only use higher
settings with care, especially during the first few
weeks of use.Whenever necessary, you can

always release the On/Off button to immediately
lift the appliance off your skin.
For the best results, the appliance should only be
used as described on the following pages.

◗Check if the voltage indicated on the mains
plug corresponds to the mains voltage in your
home before you connect the appliance.
◗Use the appliance only with the cord supplied.
◗Do not use the appliance on a wet skin.
◗The appliance has been specially designed for
treatment of thighs, hips and buttocks. Do not
use the appliance on the upper arms, the
inside of the thighs, the belly or the breasts.
◗Keep the appliance away from water!
◗Keep the appliance away from children.
◗Regular cleaning ensures optimum results and
a longer life for the appliance.
◗If the mains cord is damaged, it must be
replaced by Philips, a service centre
authorised by Philips or similarly qualified
persons in order to avoid a hazard.

Using the Cellesse
1Make sure your skin is clean, dry and free
of grease or other skincare products.
Do not apply any creams or lotions to the skin
prior to the massage.
2Make sure that clothes or long hair do not
get caught between the rollers when using
the Cellesse.Always tie back long hair
before you start using the appliance.
C3Put the transformer plug in the wall
socket.
C4Before starting, set the intensity
adjustment knob to the preferred setting.
Higher settings will provide more suction power
and therefore intensify the massage.
We advise you to start the first treatment on
setting 1. Later, either during the first treatment or
when your skin has become used to the
appliance, you can gradually increase the intensity.
If treatment becomes painful, decrease the
intensity.You will achieve the best results when
you experience the massage as pleasant. Since
everyone's skin is different, you will need to
discover which intensity setting suits you best.
Treatment with the Cellesse must, above all, be
comfortable.
C5Slide your hand under the hand-strap.

Your fingers should touch the On/Off button.
The hand-strap is flexible and adapts itself to your
hand.
6Use the Cellesse while you are sitting
down, standing up or lying down.
C7Gently position the appliance on your skin,
a little above the knee.
C8Press the On/Off button to start the
treatment and keep it pressed in.
C9Move the appliance slowly and gradually
from a little above the knee to the upper
part of your thigh.
The Vacumotion massage system will lift the skin,
massaging the cellulite layer in an intensive,
effective and pleasant way.
10 Always move the appliance in one
direction only: upwards towards the heart.
A complete stroke from just above the knee to
the upper part of the thigh will take
approximately five to seven seconds.
Do not hold the appliance in one place too long
Keep making stroking movements.
C11 When you have finished a stroke, release
the On/Off button to stop the appliance.

12 Lift the appliance off your skin.
C13 Place the Cellesse back onto your skin,
right next to where you began the first
stroke, and start a new stroke.
14 Repeat this procedure until you have
treated your entire thigh, except the
inside, with a series of slow, upward,
adjacent strokes.
◗If you wish, you may apply a cream, lotion,
talcum powder or other type of skincare
product to your skin after using the Cellesse.
◗Try to find out which treatment routine suits
you best and carry out every treatment with
the Cellesse according to this standard
routine.
◗The recommended treatment frequency
during the first two to three months is three
times a week, 10 - 15 minutes on each leg.
Read the section headed 'Following an
effective treatment programme'.
Cleaning and maintenance
Never immerse the appliance in water or rinse it!
C◗For the best results, clean the appliance after
every treatment with a moist cloth and, if
necessary, a drop of washing-up liquid. Make
sure the filter of the suction pump does not
get damp.

Do not use alcohol, acetone, petrol, abrasives,
scourers, etc., to clean the appliance.
◗The hand-strap can be washed in a washing
machine at max. 40cC.
Washing may cause the colour of the strap to
change slightly.
C◗To remove the hand-strap pull the lip on the
inside of the hand-strap and pull the hand-
strap upwards at the same time.
◗To fasten the hand-strap again, push the
buckles into the recesses and slide them
downwards until they snap into position.
Storage
C◗After use, remove the transformer plug from
the wall socket and store the Cellesse in the
bag supplied.
Environment
C◗Do not throw the appliance away with the
normal household waste at the end of its life,
but hand it in at an official collection point for
recycling. By doing this you will help to
preserve the environment.

Cellulite - ein typisch weibliches Problem.
C◗Von Cellulite ist die Rede, wenn unter der
Oberhaut gelegene Fettablagerungen als
Knoten und Grübchen sichtbar werden.Diese
Erscheinung wird häufig auch oft als
"Orangenhaut" bezeichnet.
Am häufigsten sind die Hüften, die Oberschenkel
und das Gesäß betroffen.
Die Cellulite beruht auf zwei Faktoren: auf der
matratzenartigen Struktur der weiblicnen Haut

und auf der Ansammlung von Flüssigkeit im
Körper.
C◗Die matratzenartige Struktur der weiblichen
Haut
Männer und Frauen haben eine unterschiedliche
Hautstruktur. Die Haut der Frau ist von Natur aus
matratzenartig. In "Täschchen", die vertikal zur
Hautoberfläche angeordnet sind, wird Fett
gespeichert. So entsteht eine Struktur, die der
Oberfläche einer Matratze mit Sprungfedern
ähnelt. Diese matratzenartige Struktur wird
besonders deutlich, wenn die Haut zwischen zwei
Fingern zusammengekniffen wird. Aufgrund ihrer
Hautstruktur können alle Frauen eine Cellulite
entwickeln.
C◗Flüssigkeitsansammlung
In den meisten Fällen wird die matratzenartige
Struktur dadurch sichtbar, dass in der Fettschicht
Flüssigkeit zurückgehalten wird. Frauen halten
mehr Flüssigkeit zurück als Männer, besonders in
den Beinen. Überschüssige Flüssigkeit kann sich
rund um die Fettzellen ansammeln und dazu
führen, dass die Celluliteschicht anschwillt. Kann
sich die Flüssigkeit über Monate und sogar Jahre
ansammeln, so können die Fetteinlagerungen
anschwellen und hart werden. Schließlich werden
die harten Knoten sich an der Hautoberfläche
abzeichnen, ohne dass die Haut
zusammengekniffen werden muss.

In einem fortgeschritten Stadium kann die
Cellulite beim Zusammenkneifen der Haut
Schmerzen verursachen. Dann ist eine
Rückentwicklung nur noch schwer zu erreichen. In
einem frühen Stadium können die Auswirkungen
jedoch spürbar reduziert werden.
Cellulite - was lässt sich dagegen machen?
Wenn sich die Cellulite einmal entwickelt hat,
wird sie sich nicht von selbst verringern oder
verschwinden. Im Gegenteil: Sie wird sich
verstärken. Es gibt keinen anderen Weg, als sie
sofort bei der Routine der Körperpflege gezielt zu
bekämpfen, bevor das Problem verstärkt zuTage
tritt.
Zum Glück lässt sich die Cellulite reduzieren. Sie
wird zwar niemals ganz verschwinden, sondern
zurückkehren, wenn Sie aufhören, etwas dagegen
zu tun.

Wir empfehlen Ihnen, Cellesse drei Mal

Wirksamkeit in klinischenTests
erwiesen
Obwohl die unerwünschten Folgen der Cellulite
an der Oberfläche sichtbar sind, liegen ihre
Ursachen tief in der Haut. Unabhängige Experten
der Universität Brüssel haben zwei Arten
klinischer Tests durchgeführt, um die Wirksamkeit
von Cellesse unter Beweis zu stellen.
C◗Die eine Art von Test zeigte, dass die
Anwendung des Vacumotion`Systems nur
drei Mal wöchentlich die Cellulite-Schicht in
der Haut im Laufe eines Monats um 33 %
glättet.
Dieser Test benutzte Ultraschall zur Messung der

gründlich lesen
Wenden Sie Cellesse nicht auf überempfindlicher
Haut an, bei problematischer Haut oder
Hautkankheiten, gereizter Haut, Krampfadern,
Narben, Pusteln oder Wunden. Konsultieren Sie
bei Schwangerschaft, Herzbeschwerden, Diabetes
oder Kreislaufproblemen vor der Anwendung von
Cellesse bitte Ihren Arzt.
Verwenden Sie das Gerät ausschließlich zur
Massage an Oberschenkeln, Hüften und Gesäß.
Verwenden Sie es nicht an anderen
Körperpartien!
Nebenwirkungen bei und nach der
Anwendung
Nach der Anwendung von Cellesse kann Ihre
Haut etwas rot werden und sich ziemlich trocken
anfühlen. Das ist kein Grund zur Beunruhigung; es
sind normale Folgen der stärkeren Durchblutung
der Haut. Sie sollten bald abklingen. Sie können
nach der Anwendung von Cellesse bei Bedarf
eine Körper-Lotion oder Creme auftragen, um die
Haut anzufeuchten. Sollten diese Erscheinungen
nach 24 Stunden nicht angeklungen sein oder
andere unliebsame Hautreaktionen auftreten, so
stellen Sie die Anwendung von Cellesse ein und
konsultieren Sie Ihren Arzt.
Sollten Sie dazu neigen, blaue Flecken zu
entwickeln oder kleine rote Äderchen haben, so
sollten Sie besonders vorsichtig mit der
