Dear Customer,
We wish to thank you for placing your trust in us and choosing a Polti product.
In choosing your Vaporetto, you were thinking of the hygiene of your home and of the
health of your family, because Vaporetto allows you to clean most surfaces with the pure
power that steam provides. It dissolves and collects dirt and traps dust-mites and aller-
gens in the water.
Thanks to the unique EcoActive-Filter, after vacuuming you can pour away the dirty wa-
ter without the risk of spreading dust everywhere.
The air-filtering system is completed by the air outlet filter, which retains the fine parti-
cles, so that the output air is thoroughly cleaned.
With Vaporetto you will be able to use steam and suction together for a complete clean,
suction alone so as to collect all the dust efficiently, or steam alone for specific cleaning
tasks.
We strongly recommend reading this instruction book carefully before using Vaporetto.
What is EcoActive-Filter?
EcoActive-Filter is a revolutionary water filter patented by Polti. EcoActive-Filter uses the
natural purifying property of water to capture the dirt, thus avoiding unpleasant contact
with the dust and its harmful dispersion into the environment. It is precisely the flow of
water contained in the special filter and its bubbling that make cleaning done with Va-
poretto so efficient.
This unit conforms with EC-directives 89/336 as amended by 93/68
(EMC) and 73/23 as amended by 93/68 (low voltage).
Polti S.p.A. reserves the right to change equipment or accessory specification wi-
thout prior notice.
Read these instructions carefully before using the appliance.

crushed, stretched, or come into contact with
sharp or hot surfaces.
• Do not use the appliance if the power cable
or other important parts are damaged.
• Do not use electric extension leads that are
not authorized by the manufacturer, as they
may cause damage or fire.

has completely cooled down.
• This appliances is equipped with safety de-
vices which are to be replaced only by a suit-
ably qualified technician.
• Do not direct the steam jet at people, ani-
mals or debris.
• Never place your hands inside the jet of
steam.
• Do not put any detergent or chemical sub-
stance in the boiler. Water by its nature con-
tains magnesium, mineral salts and other de-
posits which in hard water areas can
contribute to limescale build up in the tank.
To avoid these problems, it is necessary to
swill out with tapwater and empty the gener-
ator tank after every 3 or 4 uses.In very hard
water areas we recommend the use of our
KALSTOP FP 2003, a special natural-base
decalcifier which inhibits and breaks down
limescale, making it easy to remove just by
swilling out the tank with a little tapwater.
This is a preventive against scale build-up
and protects the metal walls of the steam
generator tank. KALSTOP is available from
Polti dealers or by mail-order from your Polti
Service Centre.
• We recommend you use original Polti
products only, as products of other
brands may not be suitable for use in
Polti products and could cause damage.
• Never use distilled water or scented wa-
ter.
• If you iron sitting down, do not place your
legs under the ironing board, the steam can
cause burns.
• Iron only on heat resistant surfaces and on
surfaces that allow the steam to escape e.g.
mesh ironing boards.
• For iron stand replacement use only original
spare parts.
• Check that the continuous steam request
button is switched off before connecting the
appliance to the mains.
• The iron must be used and rested on a sta-
ble surface.
• When placing the iron on its stand, make
sure that the surface on which the stand is
placed is stable.
• This appliance is not intended for use by per-
sons (including children) with reduced physi-
cal, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of
experience and knowledge, unless they have
been given supervision or instruction concer-
ning use of the appliance by a person re-
sponsible for their safety.
• Children should be supervised to ensure that
they do not play with the appliance.

• Open the lid on the water container (5)
and remove the tank cap (7) (fig.1).
• Fill the tank with about 1.3 l of water using
the bottle provided (U).
Normal tapwater can be used. Hard water
by its nature contains limestone, which
may cause build-up of limescale in the
tank. In hard water areas we recommend
with every 3 or 4 uses you add in the tank
our natural decalcifier KALSTOP, available
from Polti dealers and by mail order from
the Authorised Service Centre.
• Put the tank cap (7) back in place.
• Remove the water container (20) from the
appliance, using the handle (19) (fig.2).
• Turn the water filter unit handle (22) as
shown in figure 3 so that you can remove
the “Eco ActiveFilter” water filter unit (23).
• Fill the water container (20) with about 400
cc of ordinary tap water so that the MAX
level mark (21) is covered as shown in
fig.4.
• Put the filter unit (23) back in the water
container (20) in its original position.
• Put the water container back, performing
the above operations in reverse order.
• Close the lid on the water container (5).

You can optimise the steam flow by means
of the control knob (8) (Fig. 7).
To obtain a higher flow rate turn the knob in
a clockwise direction. Turn the knob in an
anti-clockwise direction, to decrease the flow
rate.
High flow rate of steam: to remove caked
dirt, stains, grease and to sanitise;
Normal flow rate of steam: for wall-to-wall
and loose carpeting, windows, floors;
Low flow rate of steam: for spraying plants,
cleaning delicate fabrics, wallpaper.

This appliance can be used to suck up dust
or liquids equally easily.
If the water in the filter is very dirty replace it
as described in the section “Emptying and
cleaning the water container”.
When the dirt sucked in reaches the maxi-
mum permitted level in the water container
(20), suction is stopped automatically by the
safety float provided for this purpose (you
will notice that the engine speed has in-
creased).
ATTENTION: switch off the appliance, and
only switch on again after restoring the water
level in the container as described in the
“emptying and cleaning the water container”
paragraph.
IMMEDIATE RESTART WITHOUT
RESTORING THE WATER LEVEL CAN
DAMAGE THE AIR OUTLET FILTER.
Before resuming your cleaning operations,
proceed as illustrated in the section “Empty-

NB DO NOT USE BIOECOLOGICO OR
ANY OTHER PRODUCT IN THE STEAM
BOILER, USE IT ONLY IN THE WATER
CONTAINER (20)
Bioecologico is available for sanitising while
using the suction function. It is a scented an-
tibacterial product with natural-based anti-al-
lergenic substances. If it is added regularly
to the water in the water container (20), NOT
THE STEAM BOILER, it will prevent the pro-
liferation of bacteria and micro-organisms
and inhibit the action of allergens. In addition
to assuring a sanitising action, Biecologico
eliminates smells due to the presence of
dust in the water, leaving a pleasant smell of
cleanness in the room.
Use: add 8 ml each time you fill the water
container.
Bioecologico is sold by Polti dealers or by
our authorised Service Centres.
Bioecologico is available in two fragrances:
mountain pine or citrus.

DO NOT USE STEAM FUNCTION ON
DRAYLON, VELVET, LEATHER OR
OTHER SENSITIVE SURFACES.
If in doubt about the effect of steam on other
surfaces, consult the manufacturer’s instruc-
tions and always proceed only after carrying
out a test on a hidden part or a sample. Al-
low the area treated with steam to dry and
then check whether any changes in colour or
deformations have occurred before proceed-
ing further, ensuring exactly the same steam
power and distance as in the test.
When cleaning wooden surfaces (furniture,
doors, etc.) and brick floors always proceed
with caution since excessive use of steam
could damage the wax, the polish or the
colour of the surface to be cleaned. It is
therefore advisable to apply the steam to
these surfaces only for short periods at a
time or, instead to clean them with a cloth
that has been treated with steam.
On particularly delicate surfaces (e.g. syn-
thetic materials, enamelled surfaces, etc.)
we strongly recommend using the steam at
its lowest output power.
When cleaning glazed surfaces, if the
weather is particularly cold pre-heat the
glass working at distance of about 50 cm
away from the surface. To take care of your
plants, we recommend spraying them from a
distance of at least 50 cm.

We suggest to use this accessory on large
windows, large mirrors and smooth sur-
faces, or to clean upholstery surfaces such
as sofas, mattresses, etc., using the follow-
ing attachments supplied with it:
•130 mm squeegee attachment (O)*, for
small windows;
•200 mm squeegee attachment (O1) for
large windows and surfaces;
•bristle attachment (P) is recommended
for carpeting, stairs, car interiors, and up-
holstered surfaces (AFTER TESTING
FIRST ON A HIDDEN PART, WAITING
AND SEEING HOW IT REACTS TO
STEAM TREATMENT). It is also useful for
removing animal hair from the same sur-
faces; a sponge cover (E5) may also be
attached to the nozzle.
Fit the attachments and slide them onto the
nozzle as shown in fig.D. To correctly use
the steam-suction squeegee proceed as fol-
lows:
• apply steam uniformly to the surface to be
cleaned to dissolve the soiling.
• Press the rubber squeegee against the
surface to be cleaned, moving it vertically
from top to bottom with the suction func-
tion switched on.
Warning: in particularly cold weather, pre-
heat windows by applying steam from a
distance of about 50 cm from the surface
to be cleaned.

Before carrying out any type of maintenance
make sure that the power cable has been
disconnected from the mains.
After using the brushes it is advisable to al-
low the bristles to cool in their natural posi-
tion so as to avoid them getting deformed in
any way.
Check the conditions of the gaskets located
inside the monobloc plug (B2) periodically. If
necessary, replace them with the the autho-
rised spares. Also carry out the same check
on the gaskets for connecting the extension
tubes (D) and the handle (A2). To clean the
outside of the appliance, just use a damp
cloth. Do not use solvents or detergents as
these might damage the plastic surface. To
clean the “ECOACTIVE-FILTER” holder and
clean or change the sponge filter, follow the
instructions in the paragraph headed “EMP-
TYING AND CLEANING THE WATER CON-
TAINER”.
