1143 in the presence of an attendant. Below are some safety tips that are designed to help you become accus-
tomedtoyournew Jazzy.
WARNING! The Jazzy 1143 is a motorised vehicle. When you are seated in your Jazzy
1143 and you anticipate that you are going to be in a stationary position for an extended
period of time, turn off the power. This eliminates the possibility of unexpected move-
ment and conserves battery power.
TRANSFERS
Transferring onto and offofyour Jazzy1143 requiresa good sense of balance. Be sure to havean attendant or
healthcareprofessional present whilelearningtoproperlytransferyourself.Toeliminatethepossibilityof injury,
weask thatyouverifythefollowingbeforeattemptinga transfer:
1. Be sure thepower is turnedoff.
2. Be sure theJazzy 1143 isnotin the freewheelmode.
3. Make sure thearmrests areflipped up orremoved from thepower chair.
4. Tipthefootrestup; this helps tokeepyourfeetfromhanging up on the footrestduringthetransfer.
WARNING! Avoid putting all of your weight on the footrest. This may cause the Jazzy 1143
to tip and cause injury!
MOTOR VEHICLE TRANSPORT
ThoughyourJazzymaybeequippedwithapositioningbelt,thisbeltwasnotdesignedwiththeintentofproviding
properrestraintduringmotorvehicle transport.
nInanefforttoimprovethe safety of its unitsduringmotorvehicletransport, Pride has crash testednumerous
Jazzymodels. However, since there are unlimited variations of the Jazzy product, all variations could not
possiblybe tested. Therefore, Pride recommendsthat Jazzypower chair users should notbe transportedin
vehicles of any kind while in power chairs. As of this date, there are no standards approved for tie-down
systemsinamovingvehicleof any type to transportauserwhileina power chair.

STAIRS AND ESCALATORS
WARNING! Power chairs are not designed to travel up or down stairs or escalators. Always
