Overview
The BrillianX8Vgreen motherboardutilizesthe VIABX chipsetand providesahighly
integratedsolution forfullycompatible,highperformancePC/ATXplatform.It provides66MHz
and 100MHzsystembussupportforall IntelPentium®II and CeleronTMprocessors.Both
66MHz/100MHzSDRAMwithSPDand 66MHzEDODIMMsaresupported.Italsoprovides

fertothe motherboardlayoutchartforlocationsofall the jumpers,externalconnectors,
slotsandI/Oports.Furthermore,thissection listsallnecessaryconnectorpinassignments
foryourreference.The particularstateofthe jumpers,connectorsandportsareillustrated
inthe following figures.Beforesetting the jumpersorinserting theseconnectors,please
payattention tothe directions.
Besuretounplug theAC powersupplybeforeaddingorremoving expansion
cardsorothersystemperipherals,otherwise yourmotherboardand expan-
sioncardsmightbeseriouslydamaged.

ATXPowerSupplyConnector&PowerSwitch(POWER)
Besuretoconnectthe powersupplyplug tothisconnectorinitsproperorientation.The
powerswitch(POWER)shouldbe connected toamomentaryswitch.When powering up
yoursystem,firstturnon the mechanicalswitchofthe powersupply(ifone isprovided),
then pushoncethe powerbutton.Whenpowering off the system,you needn’tturnoff the
mechanicalswitch,justPushonce*the powerbutton.
Note:*Ifyou change“soft-off byPWR-BTTN”fromdefault“Instant-off”to“Delay
4Secs”inthe“POWERMANAGEMENTSETUP”section oftheBIOS,thepower
button shouldbepressedformorethan4secondsbeforethesystempowers
down.
HardDisk LEDConnector(HD_LED)
The connectorconnectstothecase’s IDEindicatorLEDindicating the activitystatusof
IDEharddisk.
ResetSwitch(RESET)
The connectorconnectstothe case’s resetswitch.Press theswitchonce,the system
resets.
SpeakerConnector(SPEAKER)
The connectorcanbe connected tothe speakeron the case.
PowerLEDConnector(PWR_LED)
The powerLEDhasthree status.When no ACpowersupplyispresent, the LEDisoff.

Key-Lock Connector(KEY_L)
The connectorcan be connected tothe keyboardlock switchon the caseforlocking the

Pushoncethe switchconnected tothisheaderand the systemwill entersuspend mode.
InfraredHeader(IrDA)
Thisconnectorsupportswireless transmitting and receiving.If using thisfunction,
configurethesettingsof‘SerialPort2Mode’fromthe‘INTEGRATEDPERIPHERALS’
section ofthe BIOS.

FanConnector(CPUFAN,CHSFAN)
Thesetwofansarecontrollable.Theywill be automaticallyturned off afterthe system
enterssuspendmode.YoualsocanchoosenottoturntheCPUFANoff bysetting “CPUFAN
InSuspend”ason inthe “POWERMANAGEMENTSETUP”sectionoftheBIOS.
Wake-UpOnLAN (WOL)
Through the Wake-UpOnLANfunction,awakeeventoccurring fromthe networkcan
wakeup the system.If thisfunction istobe used,pleasebe surean ATX2.01 power
supplyofwhich5VSB line iscapableofdelivering 720mA,and aLANadapterwhich
supportsthisfunctionareused.Then connectthisheadertothe relevantconnectoron the
LANadapter,set“WakeUpOnLAN”asEnabled inthe“POWERMANAGEMENTSETUP”
section ofthe BIOS.Save&exit, then bootthe operating systemoncetomakesurethis
function takeseffect.
Wake-UpOnInternalModem(WOM)
Through the Wake-UpOnInternalModemfunction,the systemwhichisinthe power-off
statuscanbe powered on byaring signalreceivedfromthe internalmodem.If thisfunction
istobe used,be surean internalmodemcardwhichsupportsthe function isused.Then
connectthisheadertothe relevantconnectoron the modemcard,set“ModemRing Re-
sume”toEnabledinthe“POWERMANAGEMENTSETUP”sectionoftheBIOS.Save&exit,
then bootthe operating systemoncetomakesurethisfunction takeseffect.

The connectorconnectstothe chassissecurityswitchon the case.The systemcan
detectthe chasisintrusion through the statusofthisconnector.If the connectorhas
been closed once,the systemwill recordthe statusand indicatetothe customerthatthe
chassishasbeen opened.You can eithergetthisinformation fromSystemMonitorof
BIOSsoftware(optional)orQDIManageEasy software.

Pin1ofthe jumperislocated on the side withathick whiteline (Pin1
),referring tothe motherboardsilkscreen.Jumperswiththree pinswill
be shownastorepresentpin1&pin2 connected and to
representpin2 &pin3 connected.
ClearCMOS(JCC)
If you wanttoclearCMOS,unplug the ACpowersupplyfirst, closeJCC(pin1&pin2)once,
setJCC back tothe normalstatuswithpin2&pin3 connected,thenpoweron the system.
MemoryConfiguration
Thismotherboardprovidesthree 168 pin3.3Vun-buffered DIMM socketstosupporta
flexiblememorysizeranging from8MB/384MBforSDRAMorfrom8MB/768MBforEDO
memory.Both66MHz/100MHzSDRAMwithSPDand 66MHzEDODIMMsaresupported.
The following setofrulesallowsforoptimumconfigurations.
Rulesforpopulating a440BXmemoryarray:
l Processorswith100MHzfront-side busshouldbe paired onlywith100MHzSDRAM.
Processorswith66MHzfront-side buscan be paired witheither66MHzor100MHz
SDRAM.
l Using theserialpresencedetect(SPD)datastructure,programmed intoan E2PROMon
theDIMM,theBIOScandetermine theSDRAM’s sizeand speed.
l The DRAMTimingregister,whichprovidestheDRAMspeed grade controlforthe entire
memoryarray,mustbeprogrammed tousethe timing oftheslowestDRAMsinstalled.
l PossibleSDRAMDIMMmemorysizesare8MB,16MB,32MB,64MB,128MBineachDIMM
