This product does not contain any user serviceable parts. Please refer all
repair requirements to an authorized Raymarine dealer. Unauthorized

EMC conformance
All Raymarine equipment and accessories are designed to the best industry
standards for use inthe recreational marine environment.
The design and manufacture of Raymarine equipment and accessories conform to
theappropriate Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) standards, but correct
installation is required to ensure that performance is notcompromised.
Pressure washing
Do NOT pressure wash any Raymarine product.
SubjectinganyRaymarineproducttohigh pressurewashingmaycausesubsequent
water intrusion and failure of the product. Raymarine will not warranty product
subjected to high pressure washing.

This equipment must be installed, commissioned and operated in

Chapter 1: General information
1.1 Introduction
ThismanualprovidescommissioningandothersetupinformationforST70+displays
andassociatedkeypadcontrollers.Itisalsointendedforuserswhowanttomorefully
understand the concepts of ST70+ and want to get the most out of their product.
For day-to-day use of ST70+, refer to the ST70+ Operating Guide.
1.2 Product basics
AnST70+ system comprises one or more displays controlled by oneormore
keypads. During initial setup, an ST70+ display is set up to function as either an
Instrument or a Pilot Controller. The initial setup is part ofthe commissioning
procedure (see Chapter 2:, CommissioningProcedures).
Concept
ST70+ displays are controlled by remote keypads, as follows:
• Instrument keypads control displayssetupasInstruments.
• OnetypeofPilotControllerkeypadisusedonsail boatstocontroldisplayssetup
as Pilot Controllers.
• Anothertype ofPilotControllerkeypadisusedonpowerboatstocontroldisplays
setup asPilot Controllers.
InanyST70+system,displaysandkeypadscanbeconfiguredinconvenientgroups.
For example, asystem could comprise three Instrument groups (chart table, helm
and mast), plus two Pilot Controller groups (porthelm and starboardhelm).
Adisplayor displaygroup can be controlledonlybya keypadof theappropriate type.
Keypad controls & control functions
All ST70+ setup and operating functions are controlled by the keypad buttons.All
keypadshave:
• Power button . Switches power on and off.
• SelectDisplay button . Usedin systemswithmorethanonedisplay,to select
the display you want to control or set up. Onepress highlights the currently
selecteddisplay.IfyoupressSelectDisplayagainwhilethecurrentlyselecteddis-
play is highlighted (i.e. within 6 seconds), this selects the next display in thesys-
tem or group. Repeating this action enables you to select each display in turn.
•
CANCEL button. Used during setup procedures to leave a setup function without
makingany changes.

DODGE button. Interrupts autopilot control to enable you to steer around obsta-
cles on your plotted course.

Maximum,minimum & average value indicators aredisplayed on speed, wind speed
and wind angle screens, as in the following illustration:
Commonly used control functions
Many ST70+ setup functions and values, plus many display options are selected by
scrolling to the required function or value, then confirming the value.
The manner in which you scroll to a function or value you want and confirm your
selection, depends on keypad type.

1.3 Setup principles
A newly-installed ST70+ systemmust be commissioned asdescribed in Chapter 2:,
Commissioning Procedures, before being used for operational purposes.
First use after installation
The first part of the commissioning procedure is initial setup (summarized in
Figure 1-1). This startsautomatically on when a display is first switched on after
installation.

Controller, then define groups of Instruments and Pilot Controllers (see Figure 1-2: ,
Displaytype&groupsetupsummary).Eachgroupiscontrolledbyacommonkeypad
or keypads. For example, you could group together all Instruments fitted atthe helm
and control them with a single keypad.
When grouping displays together, the following rules apply:
• All displays in a group must be set to be the sametype, i.e. all Instruments or all
PilotControllers.
• A‘group’canbejustone display,oranumberofdisplaysuptoamaximumoffour.
• Thekeypad(s)allocatedtoagroupmustbeappropriatetothedisplayfunction,i.e.
InstrumentkeypadforInstrumentgroups,PilotControllerkeypadforPilotControl-
lergroups.

1.4 Normal operation
ST70+ Pilot Controllers and Instruments are controlled by dedicated Pilot Controller
keypads and Instrument keypads, respectively. There two types of Pilot Controller
keypad, one for sail boat installations, another for power boats.
Pilot Controllers
ST70+ Pilot Controllers are used to control Raymarine autopilots. A summary of
generic ST70+ Pilot Controller day-to-day functions is shown in Figure 1-3 .
Sail boat functions
In addition to the generic Pilot Controller functions in Figure 1-3, Pilot Controllers on
sailboatsalsohaveaccesstoWindVaneandAutoTackmodesofautopilotoperation.
These are accessed via the Pilot Controller
Main menu .
Wind Vane mode.
WindVanemodeautomaticallymaintainstheboat’sheadingwithrespecttothewind
angle. Thus if the wind angle changes, theboat’s heading changes accordingly to
maintain the same relative wind angle (see ST70+Operating Guide).
AutoTack operation
AutoTackenables you to select pre-defined tackoperations. Tack port and Tack
starboard
options are available.
WhenusingAutoTackoutsideofWindVanemode(standardAutoTack),theAutoTack
angleistheanglebetweenaporttackandastarboardtack.Thedefaultangleis100°.
This can be changed in User calibration (see page55).
When using AutoTack in Wind Vane mode, the tack angle relative to the wind on one
tack ismirrored on the other side of the wind onthe next tack.

Power boat functions
In addition to the generic Pilot Controller functions (Figure1-3 ),Pilot Controllers on
power boats also have access tofishing patterns, via the Pilot Controller Main menu .
Fishing patterns
Fishing patterns enable you to automatically navigate over a preset course in Auto
mode. The patterns available are:
• Circle
• Zigzag
• Cloverleaf
•Spiral
• Circle against heading
• Figure 8
• Patternsearch
•180°turn
• Boxsearch
Youcancustomizeeachpatterntogiveexactlythecoverageyouwant(seepage56).
Onfishingboats,

1.5 System information
ST70+ displays and keypads connect toRaymarine SeaTalkng systems. Further
informationon SeaTalkng is given in the SeaTalkng Reference Manual.
When connected to a SeaTalkng system, the ST70+ displays repeat the dataon the
bus.You can set the display response as required. You can set the system variation
only if it hasnot been set at another product.
Youcanalsocalibratethesystemtransducersandsetthedataunitsyouwanttoapply
to the system.
Power protocol
Power to ST70+ is switched on and off using the power button (as described in
the ST70+ Operating Guide). However, where instruments are part of a system,it
maybe more convenient to switch power for the entire system from acentral circuit
breaker.
In this case, whensystem power is switched ONagain:
• ST70+ instrumentsthat were switchedon when power was last switched offwill
return to the switchedON state.
• ST70+instrumentsthatwereOFFwhensystempowerwaslastswitchedOFFwill
remain OFF and will need to be switched ON individually using their power but-
tons.

1.6 Commissioning requirement
WARNING: Product installation & operation
ST70+ products must be prepared for use in accordance with the
Commissioning Procedures, before they are used for operational
purposes, unless they are part of a SeaTalk
ng
system in which at least one
other ST70+ display is already set up and working. Failure to comply with
this could result in death, personal injury, damage to your boat and/or poor
product performance.
Afterinstallation,eachST70+display that isNOTpartof aSeaTalkngsysteminwhich
atleastoneotherST70+displayisalreadysetupandworkingmustbecommissioned
in accordance with Chapter 2: Commissioning Procedures, before it is used for
operational purposes.
Refer to the ST70+ Operating Guide for instructions on how to use the ST70+
products on aday-to-day basis.
Autopilot calibration
The detailed requirement for autopilot calibration depends on the autopilot type. The
proceduresgiven in thismanualare thosefor a ‘typical’Raymarine autopilotsystem.
If necessary adapt the procedures in this manual to suit your system.If you need
