Rimage DiscLab Family™ Operator
Replace a Recorder on a Rimage DiscLab System
Use this procedure to replace one or more recorders in a DiscLab™, DL5200™, or a DLN5200™.
Rimage approved parts must be used for this process. The product warranty may become void if parts not approved by Rimage are
used; equipment or parts are tampered with, misused, neglected, or modified in any respect without the written consent of Rimage.
Notes:
•Perform this procedure for each recorder you are replacing.
•Your system may not look exactly like the system pictured.
•The term “DiscLab” is used throughout this document to refer to the DiscLab, DL5200, and DLN5200
Before you begin
1. Stop or pause all jobs.
2. Power off the embedded control center (DLN5200
only).
3. Power off the DiscLab.
4. Disconnect the power cord from the power outlet.
#Required tools:
•Torx T10 screwdriver
•5/64” Allen wrench
Remove the Recorder
1. Remove the side covers.
a. Remove the Torx T10 screws (Qty. DL5200/DLN5200 = 8, DiscLab = 4) from the left side cover.
b. Remove the left side cover and set it aside.

c. Remove the Torx T10 screws (Qty. DL5200/DLN5200 = 8, DiscLab = 4) from the right side cover.
d. Remove the right side cover and set it aside.

2. Disconnect the following cables from the recorder.
nCaution! Some cables in this system are latched. Equipment damage may occur if cables are not
disconnected appropriately.

3. On the left and right sides of the system, remove the Allen screws (Qty. 2 per side, 4 total) that hold the
recorder to be replaced.

a. Remove the front panel from the system by
pulling outward.
b. Pull the recorder out of the front of the system.

Install the Recorder
1. Slide the new recorder into the system.
2. Position the recorder so that the face of the recorder is flush with the edge of the frame.
3. Insert and partially tighten the Allen screws (Qty. 2
per side, 4 total) on both sides of the recorder.
-Important! Do not tighten the screws
completely. You should still be able to move
the recorder slightly.

4. Connect the following cables to the recorder.

Check the Recorder Alignment
1. Install the side covers.
a. Position the left side cover on the DiscLab.
b. Insert and tighten the Torx T10 screws (Qty. DL5200/DLN5200 = 8, DL = 4) to secure the left side cover.

c. Position the right side cover on the DiscLab.
-Important! The right side cover on some DLN5200 autoloaders has an air vent. If you are working on
a DLN5200 and there is an air vent, position the air vent as shown in the center photo.
d. Insert and tighten the Torx T10 screws (Qty. DL5200/DLN5200 = 8, DL = 4) to secure the right side cover.

2. Power on the system.
nWarning: To avoid the danger of electrical shock, do not proceed unless you have installed the side
covers.
a. Connect the power cord to the power outlet.
b. Turn the power switch to the ‘on’ position at the back of the system.
c. If you have a DLN5200, press the power button at the front of the autoloader. The embedded control
center powers on and the system begins to initialize.
3. After the autoloader initializes, press and hold the operator button until the operator panel displays [BUTTON
DIAGNOSTICS] and the printer tray opens.
4. Release the operator button.
5. Check the alignment of the recorder.
a. Press the operator button four times and hold
on the fourth press until the operator panel
displays [04 – JOG LIFT DIAGNOSTIC].
b. Press the operator button one time. The
printer tray closes.
c. Press the recorder button to open the recorder
tray.
d. Place a disc on the recorder tray.
e. Press and release the operator button until the
lift arm is near the recorder tray.
f. Turn the leadscrew counterclockwise to lower
the lift arm until the disc snaps onto the gripper
fingers.

g. Observe the disc position.
-Important! The outer edge of the disc
should match the recessed edge of the
recorder tray on the front and back of
the recorder tray.
h. Do one of the following:
•If the recorder is out of alignment, continue
to the Align the Recorder section.
•If the alignment looks good, continue to the

Align the Recorder
Note: Perform these steps only if the recorder is out of alignment.
1. Turn the leadscrew clockwise to move the lift arm up enough to clear the recorder tray.
2. Move the recorder forward or backward until the disc is centered in the recorder tray.
-Important! Slide the recorder, not the recorder tray.
3. Turn the leadscrew counterclockwise to lower the disc toward the recorder tray.
4. Check the alignment again. Refer to steps 5g – 5h of the Check the Recorder Alignment section.
Prepare the DiscLab for Use
1. Turn the leadscrew clockwise to move the lift arm away from the recorder tray.
2. Press the recorder button. The recorder tray closes.
3. Press and hold the operator button. The lift arm moves up and drops the disc into the output bin.
4. Power off the system.
a. If you have a DLN5200, press the power button at the front of the autoloader. The embedded control
center powers off.
b. Turn the power switch to the ‘off’ position at the back of the system. The DiscLab powers off.
c. Disconnect the power cord from the power outlet.
5. Remove the side covers.
nWarning: To avoid the danger of electrical shock, do not proceed unless you have powered off the system.
a. Remove the Torx T10 screws (Qty. DL5200/DLN5200 = 8, DiscLab = 4) from the left side cover.
b. Remove the left side cover and set it aside.

c. Remove the Torx T10 screws (Qty. DL5200/DLN5200 = 8, DiscLab = 4) from the right side cover.
d. Remove the right side cover and set it aside.

5. Tighten the Allen screws (Qty. 2 per side, 4 total)
to secure the recorder in the aligned position.
6. Install the side covers.
a. Position the left side cover on the DiscLab.
b. Insert and tighten the Torx T10 screws (Qty. DL5200/DLN5200 = 8, DL = 4) to secure the left side cover.

7. Connect the power cord to the power outlet.
Update the Rimage Software
-Important! Install the appropriate service pack included with the recorder. This ensures that the new recorder
is supported by your Rimage system.
If no service pack software was included with the recorder, make sure that you have the most recent service
pack already installed.
