Replace a Quick-Release Recorder
Use this procedure to replace a quick-release recorder in a Producer 7100™ and Producer 8100™.
Rimage approved parts must be used for this process. The product warranty may become void if parts not approved by Rimage are
used; equipment or parts are tampered with, misused, neglected, or modified in any respect without the written consent of Rimage.
The term “Producer III” is used throughout this document to refer to the Producer 7100 and Producer 8100.
Before you begin
1. Stop or pause all jobs.
2. Power off the external control center.
3. Power off the Producer III.
4. Disconnect the power cord from the power outlet.

Remove the Recorder
1. Open the front door.
2. Access the cables on the recorder to be replaced.
a. Gently squeeze together the recorder’s quick-
release tabs while the pulling the recorder out.
The recorder detaches from the Producer III.
b. Using the tab on the left, pull the recorder out
until you can access the cables.
3. Disconnect the cables from the recorder.
•Power cable
•FireWire cable
Tip: Loosen the thumbscrews (Qty. 2) on
the FireWire connector before pulling out
the FireWire cable.

Install the Recorder
1. From the front of the Producer III, connect the cables to the replacement recorder.
•Power cable
•FireWire cable
-Important! Make sure that you tighten the thumbscrews (Qty. 2) on the FireWire connector.
2. Insert the recorder into the Producer III until it clicks into place.
nCaution! If you feel resistance, make sure that the cables are not being pinched. Pull the recorder out,
straighten the cables, and reinsert the recorder.
3. Close the front door.
4. Connect the power cord to the power outlet.
Tip: You should not need to align the new recorder unless you are experiencing disc picking problems. For
instructions, refer to the Align a Recorder document found at www.rimage.com/support.html. Navigate: >
Producer Family > Support – 8100 > Documents.
Update the Rimage Software
-Important! Install the appropriate service pack included with the recorder. This ensures that the new recorder
is supported by your Rimage system.
If no service pack software was included with the recorder, be sure you have the most recent service pack
already installed.
