2 Introduction
This original instruction manual is intended for the rider and operator of
the ROTWILD bikes described here.
The original instruction manual is written in German. Other language ver-
sions are simply translations and are not valid without the German ver-
sion.
This original instruction manual applies to the following ROTWILD bikes:
- R.X275FS4
- R.R275X4
ⓘ I N F O R M A T I O N
With the exception of the R.R275X4, all ROTWILD models are full-suspen-
sion electric mountain bikes. The content of Section 7.4 Suspension on
page 39 relates only to full-suspension mountain bikes.

4 Good to Know
This instruction manual contains information about the safe use and the
maintenance of your ROTWILD bike. Please take the time to read the in-
struction manual carefully before you go for your first ride, so that you can
find out about the risks associated with the incorrect use of your ROTWILD
bike.
The manual does not give you the specialist knowledge you need to be a
bike mechanic. In addition, special tools are essential for certain jobs.
This is why all maintenance work and repairs must be carried out by a
ROTWILD dealer.
It is important for you to be familiar with the information in the manual so
that you can ride your ROTWILD bike safely and correctly and make sure
that it has as long a life span as possible. If you have questions or need
more information, please contact your ROTWILD dealer.

Your ROTWILD bike is an electrically power assisted mountain bike. The
models described in this manual are designed for private use on paved
roads and paths and for off-road riding, depending on their specified area
of use. They are intended to transport one person.
4.1 Current regulations
The ROTWILD bikes described in this instruction manual are electrically
assisted. The manual complies with the requirements of:
- EN ISO 4210 series
- EN 15194:2018-11 Cycles – Electrically power assisted cycles –
EPAC bicycles
- EN 17404:2022-07 Cycles – Electrically power assisted cycles –
EPAC mountain bikes
- Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC

4.3 Warnings
4.3.1 General information
N O T E
Please follow the instruction manuals and assembly instructions provided
by the component manufacturers, which are included with your ROTWILD
bike. You will also find all the latest information on the manufacturers’
websites.
N O T E
ROTWILD accepts no liability if you disregard the instructions and recom-
mendations in this instruction manual when using your bike and damage
it as a result.
You are responsible for checking your bike as described here and having
any necessary work carried out by your ROTWILD dealer.
N O T E
The instruction manual is aimed primarily at adults. If children or young
people under the age of 18 do not understand the content of the manual,
their parent or guardian must explain it to them.
N O T E
Always follow the tightening torques given at the end of the manual and
use a torque wrench. Your ROTWILD dealer will be happy to help you.
N O T E
You can fit an approved side stand to many ROTWILD models. Your ROT-
WILD dealer will advise you about fitting a side stand. You can find more
information about this on the ROTWILD website.
N O T E
It is important to know which category your ROTWILD bike belongs to. You
can find this information on the frame label. An explanation of the cate-
gories is given in Section 4.8 Correct area of use on page 18.
⚠C A U T I O N
We recommend that you do not paint or powder coat your frame or front
wheel fork. These processes can involve high temperatures which could
damage the components.
⚠C A U T I O N
While riding the bike, you can easily get caught up in rotating components.
For this reason, always wear tight-fitting clothes and make sure that your
shoelaces cannot get trapped.

⚠C A U T I O N
If you do not have the necessary technical knowledge to clean the bike or
if you do not clean it correctly, you could be injured. Always wear safety
gloves and make sure that your fingers do not get trapped and crushed in
rotating components.
All maintenance work and repairs must be carried out by an official ROT-
WILD dealer.
⚠C A U T I O N
Your ROTWILD bike is not approved for use with an indoor bike trainer.
⚠W A R N I N G
The frames of ROTWILD bikes are made by hand from high-quality carbon
fibre composite and are designed to be robust enough for the intended
area of use. If you stress your frame or use it incorrectly, it can break and
cause an accident or a crash.
⚠W A R N I N G
Never clamp your ROTWILD frame in a bike rack. Only use the seat post for
this purpose, providing it is not made from carbon fibre. An unsecured or
incorrectly secured bike can become detached from the carrier while being
transported and cause a serious accident. Check the bike before every
journey and at regular intervals during longer journeys to make sure that
it is correctly secured.
⚠W A R N I N G
If a carbon fibre component breaks, the fine carbon fibres can cause inju-
ries. Be very careful when handling damaged carbon fibre components
and replace them immediately. After a crash, always speak to your ROT-
WILD dealer.
If you notice any signs of material fatigue while you are riding the bike, you
must stop using it immediately and contact your ROTWILD dealer.
⚠W A R N I N G
ROTWILD bikes are not approved for use with child seats or for towing child
trailers.

⚠W A R N I N G
Overloading your bike can cause safety-related components to break. Nev-
er exceed the total permitted weight, which is given on the type plate.
You must not straighten bent or damaged components. A bike that is in
poor condition can cause further damage or lead to an accident. If this is
the case, stop using your ROTWILD bike and have it checked by your ROT-
WILD dealer.
⚠W A R N I N G
Always adapt your riding style to the weather conditions and your sur-
roundings. Avoid going out in extreme weather and ride only on suitable
surfaces with plenty of grip.
⚠W A R N I N G
If you do not have your bike serviced and maintained, worn components
could cause accidents. Follow the service intervals given in Section 12
Service records on page 50.
⚠D A N G E R
You should check the correct position of the stem after longer rides. If nec-
essary, tighten the screws on the lower stem plate with 5 Nm.
⚠D A N G E R
A bike that has been incorrectly or inadequately set up can cause a serious
accident. Do not use your ROTWILD bike if it does not meet the require-
ments in this section. If this is the case, please speak to your ROTWILD
dealer.
⚠D A N G E R
The system must be completely switched off during the initial set-up and
during cleaning and maintenance work to make sure that an accident
does not occur.
⚠D A N G E R
Because of their similarity to conventional bikes, people often underesti-
mate the speed of electric bikes. You should always adapt your speed to
your surroundings. Always look ahead when you are riding and do not rely
on other road users to react appropriately.
⚠D A N G E R
Tampering with your ROTWILD bike could result in unforeseeable liability
claims. This increases the risk of overloaded components suddenly failing.
Never tamper with your bike’s system.

4.3.2 Electric drive system
ⓘ I N F O R M A T I O N
Depending on which level of support or riding profile you choose, the re-
maining range can vary significantly.
N O T E
Drive batteries that are ready for use and also defective drive batteries are
classed as hazardous materials. They must be stored appropriately. If your
battery is damaged, your ROTWILD dealer can help you to have it profes-
sionally disposed of.
On many ROTWILD models, you can unscrew the battery from the down
tube by hand. Always hold the battery with your other hand to stop it from
falling out. When you fit the battery, make sure that it has clicked firmly
into place in the lock mechanism.
N O T E
When support mode is switched on, the drive system responds to the
smallest pressure on the pedals. If you have problems with the drive sys-
tem, apply the brakes carefully.
⚠C A U T I O N
Do not allow the information on the display to distract you while you are
riding. Concentrate fully on riding and on your surroundings.
⚠C A U T I O N
It is normal for you to hear noises from the electric motor. The noise your
bike makes may change over time and under different loads. However, if
the motor vibrates and makes unusual loud noises, contact your ROTWILD
dealer.
⚠C A U T I O N
Depending on the model range, your ROTWILD bike has a pushing aid.
Make sure that bags or other items you are carrying do not activate the
pushing aid or prevent the brakes from working. In addition, items you are
carrying can cause you to lose control of the bike. Always pack your bags
carefully and do not carry anything unnecessary with you.
You must steer the ROTWILD bike carefully using both hands in pushing
aid mode. Please note that because of the design of the bike, the pedals
may turn, so you should leave enough space for them to move.

⚠C A U T I O N
The drive battery in the down tube is only protected against splashes of
water. Never immerse your bike in water and do not clean it with a pres-
sure washer. This could cause a short circuit, malfunction or fire. If you
think that there may be water in the drive battery, do not use your bike.
Take it to your ROTWILD dealer.
⚠C A U T I O N
Do not put paper clips, coins, keys or other small objects in the battery
charging socket or in the end of the charger cable. These items could
cause a short circuit and damage the system.
⚠W A R N I N G
The drive battery must only be charged using the charger supplied with
the bike. If you use another charger, you could cause a fire or an explosion.
⚠W A R N I N G
If there is external damage to the down tube as result of a crash or an ac-
cident, do not use your bike. Take it to your ROTWILD dealer. There is a risk
that the battery is damaged and could catch fire. Be very careful.
⚠W A R N I N G
If the drive battery is handled incorrectly, fluid could leak out of it. The flu-
id can cause skin irritation and chemical burns. If you have problems of
this kind, see your doctor.
⚠W A R N I N G
Never try to open the drive battery, the charger cable or other electrical
components of your ROTWILD bike.
⚠W A R N I N G
You must not use your ROTWILD bike with the drive battery removed. In ad-
dition, depending on the ROTWILD model, if the drive battery has not been
properly fitted, it can come loose while you are riding. If you have a model
with a removable drive battery, always check that the drive battery is
clicked into the lock mechanism before riding your bike. Do not ride your
bike if the drive battery is not properly secured.
⚠W A R N I N G
The charger must be stored and used in a dry, clean area. Please read the
safety information on the charger.

⚠W A R N I N G
Error messages on the display can indicate serious problems with the sys-
tem. If this happens, stop riding your bike and contact your ROTWILD deal-
er.
⚠W A R N I N G
Do not use Bluetooth or ANT+ technology in areas where the use of wire-
less electronic devices is forbidden. People with medical devices such as
pacemakers or defibrillators should check with the manufacturer in ad-
vance whether the functioning of the devices will be affected by Bluetooth
and ANT+ technology.
4.3.3 Mechanical drive system
N O T E
You need technical knowledge to be able to adjust the rear dérailleur. In-
correct adjustments can cause mechanical damage. Always ask your ROT-
WILD dealer to adjust the rear dérailleur.
⚠C A U T I O N
If you select too small a sprocket and too high a level of support when pull-
ing away, the load can result in the chain not engaging properly with the
sprocket and jumping off. This can lead to excessive wear on the chain
and even cause the chain to break.
⚠W A R N I N G
A worn chain can suddenly break or jump off the sprockets. Check the con-
dition of the chain regularly and, if necessary, have it replaced by your
ROTWILD dealer.
⚠W A R N I N G
If you change gear under load, the chain can slip or jump off the chain
rings. For this reason, do not pedal too hard when changing gear.

If the quick release levers or bolts are not tightened correctly, components
can come loose and cause a crash. Check quick release levers and bolts
of this kind before every ride to make sure that they are secure.
⚠W A R N I N G
Loose wheels can cause a crash or an accident. Before every ride, check
that the wheels are not loose. Make sure that the front and rear axles are
correctly fitted.
⚠W A R N I N G
Worn tyres increase the risk of a crash. You should ask your ROTWILD deal-
er to check the tread depth on your tyres regularly. You should also make
sure that the tyre pressure is correct. It is marked on the tyre side wall.
⚠W A R N I N G
If the steering is heavy or stiff, this can lead to a crash. Make sure that
the steering is light and that the cables do not restrict the steering lock.
⚠W A R N I N G
A loose stem can cause a crash. Check that the stem is held securely in
position by the shaft clamp and the handlebar clamp.
⚠W A R N I N G
A loose seat post can cause a crash. When adjusting the seat height, make
sure that the seat post has clicked into place, the saddle clamp is tight-
ened to the specified tightening torque and the seat post is inserted to at
least the minimum insertion depth.
⚠W A R N I N G
Incorrectly adjusted suspension can lead to a crash. Please refer to Sec-
tion 7.4 Suspension on page 39 and if you have questions, ask your ROT-
WILD dealer.
⚠W A R N I N G
If the wheels have been removed, never operate the brake lever. Fit the
transport guard for the disc brake onto the calliper.
⚠W A R N I N G
If you can pull the brake levers right back to the handlebar grips, you will
not be able to brake in good time. Therefore, before every ride, check that
the brakes are functioning perfectly.

If brake fluid is leaking out of the hydraulic brake system, the brakes may
fail. In addition, brake fluid is toxic. Contact your ROTWILD dealer imme-
diately and wash thoroughly any parts of your body that have come into
contact with brake fluid.
⚠W A R N I N G
If the brake pads or discs are worn or dirty, the brakes will not function
properly. It is important that there is no oil or grease on the components
of the brake system. Ask your ROTWILD dealer to check your brakes for
wear when your bike is serviced.
⚠W A R N I N G
The brake discs can get very hot on long downhill stretches. Do not touch
the brake discs immediately afterwards. Let them cool down completely.
⚠D A N G E R
Faulty or failed brake systems can lead to serious accidents. Check the
functioning of the brakes in a safe setting before every ride.
4.4 Riding on public roads
Before you ride the bike on public roads, you should check the regulations
that apply in your country and ensure that your bike meets the necessary
requirements. You should also follow the road traffic regulations and be-
have considerately to avoid putting yourself and other road users in dan-
ger.
When you use your ROTWILD bike off road, you must comply with the law
in your country. We would also ask you to respect nature and the environ-
ment.
In some countries, there are specific regulations concerning the use of re-
movable bike lights. It is important for you to find out about the local laws
and regulations and to make sure that your lights meet the requirements.
Before you fit removable bike lights, please investigate the local laws and
regulations and make sure that you fully comply with them in order to
avoid accidents and improve road safety. As the manufacturer, we pass
on the responsibility for fitting the lights to the operator or owner.

4.5 The requirements on you
If your country has no national regulations concerning the use of electri-
cally power assisted cycles (EPACs), we recommend that you should be at
least 15 years old before using one.
You should be physically and mentally fit enough to operate a muscle-
powered EPAC.
⚠W A R N I N G
On every ride, follow the legal requirements and regulations in your coun-
try that apply to you and your bike and always wear safety clothing when
riding.
All ROTWILD bikes come in different frame sizes. Your ROTWILD dealer will
advise you on the right frame size for you. This will depend on your height.
Your ROTWILD dealers have the necessary expertise to make sure that your
ROTWILD bike is ergonomically correct for you.
4.6 Original components
ROTWILD invests a lot of time and expertise in drawing up the correct
specifications for the different areas of use of its products. Each compo-
nent is designed for the bike and its intended area of use. For this reason,
use only original spare parts that have been approved by ROTWILD.

If you use other components, your warranty will be invalidated. You can
find all the information about this on our website or obtain it from your
ROTWILD dealer.
ROTWILD is constantly developing and improving its bikes. We reserve the
right to make changes to certain specifications. For this reason, your bike
may differ from the information, illustrations and descriptions in this in-
struction manual. You can always find the latest information on the ROT-
WILD website. You should also read the instruction manuals provided by
the component manufacturers.

4.7 Symbols on the product
You will find stickers on the frame and on the integrated power unit (IPU)
with the frame and article numbers of the bike.

The three symbols at the bottom edge of the type plate have the following
meaning:
- Treat the bike with care, as described in this instruction manual.
- Read the entire manual before using the bike for the first time.
- The bike must not be disposed of with household waste (refer to Sec-
tion 11 Cleaning, packaging and disposal on page 48).
There are also some warning symbols on the lithium-ion battery:
Never put the lithium-ion battery on an open fire. The
drive battery must also be protected from direct sun-
light and other heat sources. Always keep to the tem-
perature range given in Section 4.8 Correct area of use
on page 18.
Do not use a lithium-ion battery that has external
damage. Handle damaged batteries with extra care.
There is a risk that the damaged battery could catch
fire or explode.
ROTWILD lithium-ion batteries are only protected
against splashes of water. They must never be
immersed in water.

4.8 Correct area of use
In all areas of use, the operating temperature range is between 0oC and
35oC.
The various ROTWILD bikes are suitable/designed for different areas of
use. These are divided into the following categories:
Bikes in category 1 are ridden only on tarmacked or paved roads and
tracks. The tyres are permanently in contact with the ground.
R.R275X4
Bikes in category 2 can, in addition to the conditions described in category
1, be ridden on unpaved and gravel tracks with moderate inclines. The
tyres may briefly lose contact with the ground. Jumps and drops are re-
stricted to a maximum height of 15 cm.
R.X275FS4
Category 3 includes the definitions of the previous two categories. In ad-
dition, the bikes in this category can be ridden on demanding trails, rough
terrain and difficult routes. A good riding technique is needed. Jumps and
drops are restricted to a maximum height of 60 cm.
In addition to the conditions in category 3, bikes in category 4 can be rid-
den downhill on rough terrain. They can reach a maximum speed of 40 km/
h. Jumps and drops are restricted to a maximum height of 120 cm.
