1 Product Overview
The RG-S6580-48CQ8QC switch is a next generation, data-center-oriented, high-densityprogrammable 100G access
switch independentlydevelopedby Ruijie Networks,providing100G/400Gaccess,low latency,and completedatacenter
features.With up to 48 100GE ports and eight400GE ports, the switchcan be usedwith the RG-S6980-64QC switch to
form a high-performanceandhigh-reliabilitydata centernetwork.

The RG-S6580-48CQ8QC switch is a Class A product. In a domestic environment, this product may cause radio

The model of built-in lithium batteries of the RG-S6580-48CQ8QC switch is CR2032. The switch mayexplode if a

1.1.2 Product Appearance
The hardware of the S6580-48CQ8QC includes thechassis,the powersupplysystem and the heat dissipation system.
The power supplysystem: Provides two power supply module slots,which support 1+1 power supplyredundancy.
You are advised to configurepowersupplyredundancy.
The heat dissipationsystem:Provides sixfan module slots,whichsupport5+1 fan redundancy. You are advised to
configureallfans to realize redundancy.

Asset Tag
The asset tag is on the left bottom corner of the switch front panel. It is a movable tag that can be withdrawn from the
device. You can mark the information such as the asset name, category, code and registration date on the tag to help
improveassetmanagementaccuracyandefficiency.

1.1.3 External Ports
The RG-S6580-48CQ8QC provides the followingexternalports:
Universalserialbus (USB)port:This port canconnect to a USB flashdrive to save logs,hostversions,alarms,and
other diagnosticmessagesforyou to convenientlyupgradethe software versionof the switch online andsavethe
loginformation.
To protect the data and avoid device damage,use qualified USB flash drives from well-known vendors. The local
USB port is compatiblewith mostofthe USB controllers exceptsomeUSBflash drives.
The RG-S6580-48CQ8QC switch supports system debugging, configuration, maintenance, management and host
software uploading throughthe Console port.
Console port: A RS-232-compliantserial communicationportwith standard RJ45connector. This port is connected
to the serial port of terminal PC to perform system debugging, configuration, maintenance, management, and host
softwareuploading.
MGMT port:This is an out-bandEthernet port, whichuses standard RJ45connector.This interface is connected
with Ethernetport of a PC to perform program downloading.
DSFP port: Thereare 48 100GE DSFP ports,whichsupportSFP modules.
QSFP-DD port: There are eight400GE QSFP-DD ports,whichsupportSFP modules and 4x100G mode.

1.1.5 PowerSupply
The RG-S6510-48CQ8QC switchis powered bythe RG-PA1200I-F powersupplymodule.This smartpowersupply
moduleis hot-swappableand supports powermanagement,and thehostcan readinput power,inputcurrent, and
temperatureinrealtime.
The RG-S6580-48CQ8QC switch supports 1+1 power supplyredundancy. To improve the stabilityand reliabilityof
the entiresystem,itis recommended toconfigure1+1 powersupplyredundancy.Whenthe twopowersupplymodules
work normally,the switchis inthe status of current sharing.
The switch requires at leastone power supplymodule to work normally. Filler panels need to be installed in the
unoccupiedpowersupplymoduleslots toensure ventilation,heatdissipationand dustprevention.
1.1.6 Heat Dissipation
The workingtemperatureofthe RG-S6580-48CQ8QCswitchis 0°Cto 40°C,or 32°F to 104°F. Heat dissipationdesign
needs toensure thestability, safety, and maintainabilityinsuch environment.The RG-S6580-48CQ8QC switch adopts
fan ventilationand forcedconvection to ensurethe device canwork normallyinspecified environment. Dustthe device
every threemonths toavoid blockingthe ventilationopenings.
The RG-S6580-48CQ8QCsupports M1HFANII-F andprovides fan speedregulation,fanfailurewarning,and fan hot
swapping.

Maintain a minimum clearanceof20cm (7.87in.) around the switch for ventilation.
The switch requires at least five fan modules to work normally. Filler panels need to be installed in the unoccupied
fan moduleslots toensure ventilation,heatdissipationand dustprevention.
Do not use powersupplymodulesandfanmodules withdifferentairflow directions together.
1.2 Modules
1.2.1 M1HFAN II-F
As the fan module ofthe RG-S6580-48CQ8QC switch, the M1HFAN II-F module provides a cooling mechanism for the
wholesystem.The M1HFAN II-F module supports fanspeedcontrol,failurewarning,andhotswapping.

1.2.2 RG-PA1200I-F
The RG-PA1200I-F module is the power supplymodule of the RG-S6580-48CQ8QC switch. The smart RG-PA1200I-F
can obtain the power status,output power,output current and operating temperature in real time. The RG-PA1200I-F
modulesupports both AC andHVDC input.

2 Preparing for Installation
2.1 SafetyPrecautions
To avoid body injury and device damage, please carefullyread the safety precautions before you install a S6580
series switch.
The followingsafetyprecautions donot cover all possibledangers.
Do notusethe switchin a placewherechildrenmayappear.
Install and use the switch in the equipment room. Only maintenance personnel, professionals, or technicians can
perform operations on the switch. Do not open the enclosure when the switch is running. If it is necessaryto open
the enclosure, power off the switch first before opening the enclosure to prevent electric shocks or other possible
dangers.
2.1.1 Installation Safety
Keepthe chassis cleananddust-free.
Do notplacethe device inwalkingareas.
Do not wearlooseclothes,ornaments oranyotherthings that maybe hooked bythe chassis duringtheinstallation
andmaintenance.
Turn off allpowersuppliesandunplugall powercords andcables beforetheinstallationorthedismantling.
2.1.2 Removal Safety
Avoid frequent removals afterthe device is installed.
Turn off allpowersuppliesandunplugall powercords and cables before the installationorthe dismantling.
When removingthe device, pay attentionto the balanceandavoid hurting legs andfeet or strainingthe back.
When the device is being removed, do not hold the power supplyhandle or the fan handle for these parts are not
designed for bearing the entire weight of the device. It will cause damage to the device or to your body if you hold
theseparts whenremovingthe device.
To reduce the weightof the chassisduringtheremoval,dismantletheextensionmodule,fan moduleandthe power
supplymodulefirst.
Installandoperatethe device in places where removingis restricted.
2.1.3 Electric Safety
Observe localregulations andspecifications whenelectricoperations are performed.Onlypersonnel withrelevant
qualifications canperform suchoperations.
Carefullycheckany potential dangerinthe workingarea, suchas ungroundedpowersupply,unreliablegrounding
of the powersupply, and damp/wetground.

Find out the locationof the emergencypowersupplyswitchinthe room beforeinstallation.Firstcut off the power
supplyin the caseofanaccident.
Be sureto makea carefulcheck beforeyou shutdown the powersupply.
Do notplacethe device ina damp environment.Donotlet any liquidenterthe chassis.
Any nonstandard and inaccurate electrical operation can cause accidents such as fires or electrical attacks, thus
causingsevere,oreven fatal damages tohumanbodies andthedevices.
Direct or indirecttouch through a wet objecton high-voltageandmains supplycanbring a fatal danger.
2.1.4 Electrostatic Discharge Damage Precautions
The RG-S6580-48CQ8QC designinggives agreatconsideration to preventelectrostaticdischargedamageandadopts
multiplemeasures.Butif the electrostaticexceeds certain limit,itcan stillcausegreatdamagestothe circuitryand the
device. In networks connectedbythe RG-S6580-48CQ8QC,the majorsources ofelectrostaticinduction are outdoorhigh
voltage transmissioncables,lightening,indoorfloormaterials and the machinestructure.
Pay attentionto the followingtips:
The device andthe floor are well grounded.
Take dustpreventionmeasures intheroom.
Maintain anappropriatehumidity.
When the pluggablemodulesofthe switchare being installed,wearantistaticwriststrapand makesurethe
antistaticwriststrapis wellgrounded.
Holda powersupplymoduleora fan module byits edges.Do not touch anycomponentorthe PCB.
Usea staticshielding bagtoproperlystore a powersupplymoduleora fan module.
Avoid clothing andother items incontact with the circuitboard. The anti-staticwriststrapcanonlyprevent damage
to the circuitboardcausedbystatic electricityon the body. Static electricityon clothing cannotbe prevented.
2.1.5 Laser Safety
Amongthe modules supportedbythe RG-S6580-48CQ8QC,thereare a greatnumberofopticalmodules thatare Class
Ilaserproduct.
Precautions:
When a fibertransceiverworks,ensurethat the port has beenconnectedwitha fiber or has beencovered by a dust
cap so as to keepout dustand prevent it from burning your eyes.
Do not stare atany fiberport.
Do not stare atany fiberport under anycircumstances.It maycausepermanentdamage to your eyes.
2.1.6 Storage Safety
To ensure the safetyof the switch, see the storage temperature and humidityrequirements in the Specifications section
for the switchstorageenvironmentrequirements.

If the switchis storedfor more than 18 months,power on the switch and run it for consecutive 24 hours to activate
the switch.
2.2 InstallationSite Requirements
Installthe S6580-48CQ8QCindoors.Toensurenormaloperationandaprolongedservicelifeof the device, the
installationsitemustmeetthefollowingrequirements.
2.2.1 Rack Mounting Requirements
Make surethecabinetcomplies with the followingconditionsifthe RG-S6580-48CQ8QCis installedinthe cabinet:
Installthe switchinan opencabinetas much as possible.Ifyou installthe switchinsidea closedcabinet,be sure
that the cabinethas a goodventilation andheat dissipationsystem.
Be surethatthe cabinetis firm enoughto bear the weightof the RG-S6580-48CQ8QCandits installation
accessories.
Be surethatthe dimensionsofthe cabinetis appropriateforinstallation oftheRG-S6580-48CQ8QCthat can
reservea certain spaceforthe front, back, left andright panels forheatdissipation.
The cabinetshouldbe properlygrounded.
2.2.2 Ventilation Requirements
For the RG-S6580-48CQ8QCswitch,leave sufficientspacein thefront and at the back of the chassis(atleast20cm)for
ventilation. After various cables are connected,bundle the cables orplacethem inthe cable managementbracketto
avoid blockingairinlets.Dustthe device every threemonths toavoid blocking the ventilationopenings.
2.2.3 Temperature and Humidity Requirements
To ensurethenormaloperationandaprolonged servicelifeof the RG-S6580-48CQ8QC,maintain an appropriate
temperatureandhumidityin the equipmentroom.The equipmentroom withtoohigh or too lowtemperatureandhumidity
for a long periodof timemaydamagetheequipment.
In an environmentwithhighrelative humidity, the insulatingmaterialmayhave badinsulationoreven leak
electricity. And sometimes the materialsmaysufferfrom mechanicalperformancechangeandmetallicparts may
get rusted.
On the other hand,in an environmentwithlowrelative humidity, the insulatingstripmaydry and shrink,andstatic
electricitymayoccur easilyandendangerthe circuiton the device.
In an environmentwith hightemperature,the equipmentis subjected toevengreater harm,as its performancemay
degradesignificantlyandits service life maybeshortened athightemperaturefor long that expedites the aging
process.

The ambienttemperatureandhumidityare measuredatthe pointthat is 1.5 m (59.06 in.) above the floor and 0.4 m
(15.75in.) before the device whenthere is noprotective platein front or atthe back of the device rack.
2.2.4 Cleanliness Requirements
Dustposes the topthreat to the runningofthe device. The indoordustfallingonthe device maybe adhered bythe static
electricity, causingpoorcontactof the metallicjoint.Such electrostaticadherencemayoccurmoreeasilywhenthe

2.2.5 System Grounding Requirements
A goodgroundingsystem is the basis forthe stableandreliable operationofthe RG-S6580-48CQ8QC.It is the key to
prevent lightning stroke andresistinterference.Please carefullycheckthe grounding conditionsonthe installation site
accordingto the groundingrequirements,andperform groundingproperlyas needed.
Safety Grounding
The device using AC or HVDC power supplymustbegrounded byusingtheyellow/green safetygroundingcable.
Otherwise,when grounding faulthappens in the high voltage circuitinsidethedevice, electricshockmayoccur.
The buildinginstallationshall provideameans for connectionto protective earth, and the device is to be connected
to that means.

The lightningprotectionsystem ofthe facility is anindependentsystem thatconsists ofthelightning rod, downlead
conductorandthe connector to the groundingsystem,whichusuallysharesthepowerreference groundand
yellow/greensafetycableground.The lightningdischargegroundis forthe facilityonly, not for the device.

EMC Grounding
Groundingrequiredforelectromagneticcompatibilityincludes shielded grounding,filtergrounding,noiseandinterference
suppression,and levelreference,whichcontributeto the overallgroundingrequirements.The grounding resistance
shouldbe smallerthan 1ohm.The RG-S6580-48CQ8QC switchhas two grounding lugs ontherightside of the chassis.
The grounding lugs areindicatedbyprominentwarninglabels.

2.2.6 EMI Consideration
Various interferencesources,from eitheroutsideorinsidethe deviceor applicationsystem,affectthe system inthe
conductive ways suchas capacitive coupling,inductivecoupling,and electromagneticradiation.Therearetwo types of
electromagneticinterferences:radiated interference and conductedinterference,depending on thetype of the
propagationpath.Whenthe energy,often RF energy, from a componentarrives ata sensitivecomponentvia the space,
the energyis knownas radiatedinterference.The interferencesourcecanbe either a partof the interferedsystem or a
completelyelectricallyisolatedunit.Conductedinterferenceresults from theelectromagneticwireorsignalcable
connectionbetweenthesourceandthe sensor.Interference alongthecablethe interference is transmitted from oneunit
to another. Conducted interferenceoftenaffects the powersupplyof the device, but can be controlledbya filter.
Radiatedinterference mayaffect any signal pathinthe device, and is difficult to shield.
Effective measuresshould be takenfor the powersystem to prevent electricgrid interference.
The workinggroundofthe switches should beproperlyseparatedand keptas far as possible from the grounding
device ofthe powerdevice or the anti-lightning groundingdevice.
Keepthe device away from high-powerradio transmitter,radartransmittingstation,and high-frequencylarge-
current device.
Measures mustbetakento isolatestaticelectricity.

Before connectingthe fibers,you shouldensurethatthetype of opticalconnectorand the type of fibers matchthe type of
the optical interfaceused.Moreover, you shouldpayattentionto the Tx andRx directions of the fiber. The Tx end of this
device shouldbe connectedto the Rx endof the peer device, andthe Rx end of this device to the Tx end ofthe peer
device.

2.5 Unpacking andChecking
Unpacking Procedure
(1) Use scissorstocut the packing straps off the shippingcontainer,placethecontaineron a flat surfacewith the top of
the containerfacing upwards,andcheckwhetherthe seal labelon the top of the shippingcontaineris intact.
(2) Usea paperknife to cut the tape alongthe junctionof the side of the shippingcontainerandthe top flap, and then
openthe flap.PS: The foam in the containermayvary with products.
(3) Take out the accessorykit, check that there are no missing accessories in the accessory kit, and then put the
accessorykit aside.PS: The accessories mayvary withproducts.
(4) Holdthe switchuprightwith the panelfoam facingup.
(5) Removethe panel foam and putit aside.
(6) Removethe switch from the shipping container with both hands,and layit flat on a work bench.
(7) Removethe tape from the anti-staticbag,unfoldthe bag, putyour hands intothe bagtoholdthe switchbythemiddle
of the two sides,removethe switchout of the bag,and placeit on ananti-staticwork bench.
(8) Press thepowersupplymoduleinwardto ensurethatthe powersupplymodule is ingoodcontact with the slot.
