RULES FOR SAFE OPERATION
The purpose of safety rules is to attract your
attention to possible dangers. The safety symbols
and the explanations for them, require your careful
attention and understanding.
The safety warnings do not by themselves
eliminate any danger. The instruction or warnings they
give are not substitutes for proper accident prevention
measures.
SAFETY ALERT SYMBOL.
Indicates caution or warning. May be
used in conjunction with other symbols
or pictures.
WARNING: Failure to obey a safety warning can
result in serious injury to yourself or to others. Always
follow the safety precautions to reduce the risk of
fire, electric shock and personal injury.
DOUBLE INSULATION
Double insulation is a concept in safety in electric
power tools, which eliminates the need for earth
grounding. Whenever there is electric current in the
tool there are two complete sets of insulation to
protect the user. All exposed metal parts are isolated
from the internal metal motor components with
protecting insulation.
WARNING: The double insulated system is intended to
protect the user from shock resulting from a break in
the tools internal wiring. Observe all normal safety
precautions related to avoiding electrical shock.
IMPORTANT: Servicing of a tool with double insulation
requires extreme care and knowledge of the system and
should be performed only by a qualified service
technician. For service we suggest you return the tool to
your nearest Ryobi Authorised Service Centre for repair.
When servicing, use only genuine Ryobi replacement
parts.
WARNING: Do not attempt to operate this tool until
you have read thoroughly and understood completely,
safety rules, etc. contained in this manual. Failure to
comply can result in accidents involving fire,
electric shock or serious personal injury. Save owners
manual and review frequently for continuing safe
operation and instructing others who may use this
tool.
The operation of any tool can result in
foreign objects being thrown into your
eyes, which can result in severe eye
damage. Before beginning power tool
operation, always wear safety goggles or safety
glasses with side shields and a full face shield
when needed. We recommend Wide Vision Safety
Mask for use over eyeglasses or standard safety
glasses with side shields.
1. KNOW YOUR POWER TOOL. Read owners
manual carefully. Learn its applications and
limitations as well as the specific potential hazards
related to this tool.
2. GUARD AGAINST ELECTRICAL SHOCK BY
PREVENTING BODY CONTACT WITH
GROUNDED SURFACES. For example, pipes,
radiators, ranges, refrigerator enclosures.
3. KEEP WORK AREA CLEAN. Cluttered areas and
benches invite accidents.
4. AVOID DANGEROUS ENVIRONMENT. Don't use
power tools in damp or wet locations or expose to
rain. Keep work area well lit.
5. KEEP CHILDREN AND VISITORS AWAY. Visitors
should wear safety glasses and be kept a safe
distance from work area. Do not let visitors contact
tool or extension cord.
6. STORE IDLE TOOLS. When not in use, tools
should be stored in a dry and high or locked-up
place, out of reach of children.
7. DON'T FORCE TOOL. It will do the job better and
safer at the rate at which it was designed.
8. USE RIGHT TOOL. Don't force small tool or
attachment to do the job of a heavy duty tool. Don't
use tool for purpose not intended.
9. DRESS PROPERLY. Do not wear loose clothing or
jewellery. They can be caught in moving parts.
Rubber gloves and non-skid footwear are
recommended when working outdoors. Also wear
protective hair covering to contain long hair.
10. ALWAYS WEAR SAFETY GLASSES. Everyday
eyeglasses have only impact resistant lenses,
they are not safety glasses.
11. PROTECT YOUR LUNGS. Wear a dust mask if
operation is dusty.
12. PROTECT YOUR HEARING. Wear hearing
protection during extended periods of operation.
13. DON'T OVERREACH. Keep proper footing and
balance at all times. Do not use tool on a ladder or
unstable support. Secure tools when working at
elevated levels.
14. MAINTAIN TOOLS WITH CARE. Keep tools
sharp and clean for better and safer performance.
Follow instructions for lubricating and changing
accessories.
15. DISCONNECT TOOLS. When not in use, before
servicing, or when changing attachments, blades,
bits, cutters, etc. all tools should be
disconnected.
16. REMOVE ADJUSTING KEYS AND WRENCHES.
Form a habit of checking to see that keys and
adjusting wrenches are removed from tool before
turning it on.

■ APPLICATIONS
(USE ONLY FOR THE PURPOSES LISTED
BELOW.)
CUTTING WOOD AND RESIN BOARDS AND
THIN METAL SHEETS.
•Allen Key
To make adjustments to your jig saw use the
Allen Key supplied with your jigsaw.
• Blade Installation
INSERTION & REMOVAL OF BLADE
(1) Loosen the blade securing hex head screws
with allen key. Insert the jig saw blade fully
and retighten. (Fig 1).
(2) Ensure that the blade support roller is lightly
touching the rear of the blade (Fig 2).
(3) Lower the blade
safety guard to
the base of the
machine before
commencing
operation. (Fig 3).
•Switch
Your jig saw starts and
stops by depressing
and releasing the
On/Off switch. For
continuous operation,
press the Lock On
button while On/Off
switch is depressed.
Depress again to
release the lock.(Fig 4)
•Variable Speed
Your Ryobi jig saw is
equiped with variable
speed control to allow
selection of the correct
speed for the material
being cut. (Fig 5)
■ OPERATIONS
Never cover air vents since they must always
be open for proper motor cooling.
•Starting
For accurate starting, reduce the cutting speed
until all the blade has entered the material.
Hold the base of the tool in firm contact with
the work.
•Arc Cutting
In cases of small circle or arc cutting, reduce
the cutting speed compared to normal straight
cutting. (Fig 6)
(NOTE): Too much pressure may break the
blade when cutting arcs or circles.
•Metal Cutting
A cutting oil or emulsion for steel, a turbine oil for
metallic materials like aluminium should be used.

when cutting metal.

•Centre Cutting
Cutting in the centre
of a board can be done
without first drilling a
starting hole.
Rest the base of the
jig saw on the work as
shown without the
blade touching the
work. Then slowly lower the moving blade
against the board. For materials other than
wood a starting hole must be drilled.(Fig 8)
•Bevel Cutting
Loosen the hex socket head screws at the base
plate by using the allen key and adjust the bevel
adjustment scale to
the angle desired,
then tighten the hex
socket head screws
firmly.
It is often difficult to
cut at 450. In such
cases clamp the work.
(Fig 9,10,11)
■ TWO POSITION ORBITAL ACTION
When engaged, the
orbital cutting action
allows the jig saw to
cut faster on long
length material. It
should never be used
to cut steel. See chart
below for recommended
settings. To regulate
the cutting speed for various materials, turn the
orbital action knob and the variable speed
control to the required positions. (Fig 12)
■ MAINTENANCE
Replace carbon brushes with new ones when
they are worn to 4mm length. The use of worn
out brushes will cause damage to the motor.

reliability, all repairs with the
exception of externally accessible
brushes should be performed by an
authorised service centre or other
qualified service organisation.
