The butane gas torch is portable and lightweight, suitable for
heating, soldering, shrinking and many other applications.
Powered by butane gas (lighter fuel), the torch has a push
button start and anti-flare device to enable quick and clean
operation.
AK2941 is supplied with Soldering Head and Tip, Sponge and Stand. AK2953 is supplied in a Carry Case together with, Hot Air Nozzle, Deflector
Nozzle, Soldering Head and Tips, Probe, Hot Knife, Sponge and Stand.

3Familiarise yourself with the application and limitations, as well as the potential hazards, of the torch.
3Replace or repair damaged parts. Use genuine parts only. Unauthorised parts may be dangerous and will invalidate the warranty.
8DO NOT repair the torch yourself, use an authorised service agent.

WARNING! Use and handle the butane gas (lighter fuel) in accordance with any instructions supplied with the fuel.
3Butane gas is highly flammable so keep an appropriate fire extinguisher at hand.
3Ensure there are no flammable or combustible materials near the work area.
3Keep the work area clean, uncluttered and ensure there is adequate ventilation and lighting.
3Keep children and unauthorised persons away from the working area.
3Remove ill fitting clothing. Remove ties, watches, rings, and other loose jewellery, and contain and/or tie back long hair.
3Point the torch away from yourself and others when igniting flame.
3Keep hands and body clear of the torch head when operating as it becomes very hot.
3When using the burner holder (fig 3.A), follow operating instructions to produce correct gas flow. DO NOT use with the blue flame.
3Secure unstable workpiece with a clamp, vice or other adequate holding device.
8DO NOT get the torch wet.
8DO NOT use torch where there are flammable liquids, solids or gases such as paint solvents and including waste wiping or cleaning rags etc.
8DO NOT use the torch for any purpose other than for which it is designed.
8DO NOT use accessories other than those supplied with, or manufactured specifically for use with, the torch.

WARNING! DO NOT touch the torch head during, or immediately after, use. Allow the torch to cool naturally before handling.
8DO NOT cool the torch in water.
8DO NOT point the torch at yourself, others, or animals.
8DO NOT use the torch for more than 15 minutes at a time as it may overheat. After 15 minutes allow the torch to cool before re-use.
8DO NOT lay the torch on a surface. Use stand supplied.
8DO NOT operate the torch when you are tired, under the influence of alcohol, drugs or intoxicating medication.
8DO NOT allow untrained persons to operate the torch.
8DO NOT operate the torch if any parts are damaged or missing as this may cause failure and/or personal injury.
8DO NOT touch the workpiece close to the heated area as it will be very hot. Allow to cool.
8DO NOT leave the torch operating unattended.
3When work is complete, allow the torch to cool. Clean the torch and accessories and store in a safe, dry, childproof location.
8DO NOT store in direct sun light or where the temperature could exceed 1040C

WARNING! Ensure you have read and understood the safety instructions before using the torch.
NOTE: The torch is dispatched without any fuel. The user must fuel the torch as follows.
3.1. TO FUEL THE TORCH.
3.1.1. Use only high quality butane gas (lighter fuel) to fill the torch.
3.1.2. Ensure the gas flow is turned off. See figure 1, on/off indicator.
3.1.3. Follow the instructions on the butane fuel container.
3.1.4. Apply the container filler tip to the torch base inlet valve (fig 2.1). Use a pumping action for best filling results.
3.1.5. The torch will take about 20 seconds to fill. Once full, allow gas in the torch to stand and stabilise for a few minutes before use.

2. INTRODUCTION

3.3. TO USE AS A HOT IRON (for shrink wrapping etc).
3.3.1. Screw the hot air burner head (fig 9.D) onto the burner holder (fig 9.A). This head
has a non-threaded output end and contains a ceramic heating element in the base.
3.3.2. Push the burner assembly onto the top of the torch as far as it will go (fig 10).
3.3.3. Fit the scoop (fig 9.E) if required.
3.3.4. For ignition follow steps 3.2.3. to 3.2.8. above.
The torch is now ready for use as a heat source for shrink wrapping etc.
3.2. TO USE AS A SOLDERING IRON or POLYFOAM CUTTER.
sCAUTION: ENSURE ALL PARTS ARE COOL FROM ANY PREVIOUS USE BEFORE PROCEEDING.
3.2.1. Screw the required soldering tip (or cutter) (fig 3) to the threaded burner head (fig 3.B). This head
contains a ceramic heating element. Screw the head onto the burner holder (fig 3.A).
3.2.2. Push the burner assembly onto the top of the torch as far as it will go (fig 4).
3.2.3. To turn on the gas flow prior to ignition, hold the main body of the torch so that the on/off symbol
is facing you. With the other hand hold the ribbed portion of the red plastic switch collar and lift it
(fig 5.1) before turning it in the direction of the ON arrow (fig 5.2) until you can hear the gas escaping.
(Remember, the red switch collar will not turn until you lift it.)
3.2.4. Press the red ignition button (fig 6.4.) to ignite the gas.
3.2.5. Allow the blue flame to burn for about 5-10 seconds in order to heat the element in the head. Observe
the element through the air hole (fig 7.C) - it should glow red.
3.2.6. Take the shuttle lever (fig 8) and pull it back on its spring as far as it will go and release it.
This will adjust the air supply to the flame and convert the hot blue flame to a gas jet which will burn
on and above the head element. DO NOT hold the shuttle lever down as this may extinguish the supply
to the element allowing it to cool to a point where it will not ignite the gas when the lever is released.

CAUTION! DO NOT TOUCH THE SHUTTLE LEVER AGAIN AS IT BECOMES VERY HOT.
3.2.7. Turn the ribbed collar (fig 5.3) to adjust the gas flow to a minimum in order to sustain the ceramic glow.
3.2.8. Allow the torch to stand for about 2 minutes in order to achieve maximum output. The torch may now be used as required.
Note: If you cease working and intend to restart, allow all parts to cool before following above procedure again.
3.4. TO USE AS A BURNER (with naked blue flame for burning or heating).
3.4.1. Remove the burner holder (fig 9.A). No cover is required for this mode.
3.4.2. Ignite the torch as in 3.2.3. to 3.2.5. above.
3.4.3. Adjust the flame length by turning the ribbed switch collar.
3.4.4. Apply flame to task. Only use the minimum flame required for the job.
Too large a flame is less stable and will waste fuel.
3.5. TURNING THE TORCH OFF.
When the job is complete turn the red switch collar away from the ON symbol arrow
towards the OFF symbol. (fig 5.3) When the switch collar reaches the OFF position the collar will drop down by 1mm and lock.
(When you next come to use the torch remember to lift the switch collar before attempting to turn it.)
WARNING! Torch head is very hot above the ribbed switch collar (fig 11), allow to cool before handling.
3.6. GENERAL INFORMATION.
When adjusting the flame or switching ON or OFF always hold the the ribbed portion of the
switch collar only. Do not attempt to adjust the torch by turning the torch head.
The torch should not be used continuously for more than 15 minutes at a time. After 15 minutes
allow the torch to cool then continue with the task for a maximum of another 15 minutes.
Keep the torch clean and store safely. For spare soldering tips and parts contact your local Sealey dealer.
Torch will not ignite. No fuel.
To high or low gas pressure.
Air holes blocked.
Damaged torch.
Refill with butane gas.
Adjust the gas open/close valve.
Check that all holes are clear.
Contact service agent.
Tip does not heat up.
Hot blue flame does not
convert when shuttle used.
The flame continues to burn.
The ceramic tip is worn or damaged.
Poor gas pressure.
Change the tip.
Re-fill with gas.
Push the shutter lever down once again and hold for 2-3 seconds.
