Purpose of the documentation
This manual describes the communication model of CM 1xDALI. It helps you access CM
1xDALI from the CPU through PROFINET or PROFIBUS. This manual supplements the
manual ET 200SP Communication module CM 1xDALI
(https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs/ww/en/view/109769428) which describes the
functions and technical specification.
The information provided in this manual and in Communication module CM 1xDALI manual
supports you commissioning the DALI system.

●CPU: In this manual, "CPU" means the device which support PROFIBUS/PROFINET and

SIEMENS PRONETA (PROFINET network analysis) allows you to analyze the plant network
during commissioning. PRONETA features two core functions:
●The topology overview automatically scans the PROFINET and all connected
components.
●The IO check is a fast test of the wiring and the module configuration of a plant.

SINETPLAN
SINETPLAN, the Siemens Network Planner, supports you in planning automation systems
and networks based on PROFINET. The tool facilitates professional and predictive
dimensioning of your PROFINET installation as early as in the planning stage. In addition,
SINETPLAN supports you during network optimization and helps you to exploit network
resources optimally and to plan reserves. This helps to prevent problems in commissioning
or failures during productive operation even in advance of a planned operation. This
increases the availability of the production plant and helps improve operational safety.

2.1 Configuring the CM 1xDALI
Before using a CM 1xDALI, configure it with the power on. Use the GSD file in the
engineering system for configuring or do a reconfiguring via the parameter data record.

2.2 Structure of CM command/response
Through CM commands, the CPUs communicate with the CM 1xDALI module to configure
or query DALI devices. A DALI device can be a control gear or input device. When a CPU
sends a CM command to a CM 1xDALI module, the CM 1xDALI module replies with a CM
response.
Only CPUs can send a CM command to the CM 1xDALI module.
Structure of the CM command/response
The structure of the CM commands and CM responses are the same. The maximum length
of the CM command/response is 100 bytes.

2.3 Sending/receiving CM commands
To send the CM command, use Process Image or Data Record.
CM commands over Process Image
The CM 1xDALI module has 16 bytes for Process Image input and 16 bytes for Process
Image output. Due to this limitation, only the CM commands with a length of 15 bytes or less
can be performed over Process Image. If you perform a CM command with a length is longer
than 15 bytes with Process Image, CM 1xDALI replies to the command with an error
message in a CM response.

CM commands over Data Record
You can use the "Write data record" instruction to send an entire CM commands and use the
"Read data record" instruction to receive the CM command response.
Send CM command – data record 50
By writing the CM command data into the data record number 50, the CPU sends the CM
command to the CM 1xDALI module.
The CPU can only send another CM command to the CM 1xDALI module after the CPU
receives the response from the last CM command. If the CPU has not received the
response, the "Write data record" instruction returns an error.
Receive CM command – data record 51
By reading data record number 51, the CPU gets the response from the last CM command.
When the CPU reads the data record and gets a CM response, the CM 1xDALI module
clears the buffer. When the CPU reads the data record again, the "Read data record"
instruction returns an error.
If the CPU does not read the response and sends another CM command to the CM 1xDALI
module, the new CM response overwrites the last response.

3.1 System
System commands are the basic CM command of the CM 1xDALI.
3.1.1 Poll the status and event of CM 1xDALI
Description
Use this CM command to send a heartbeat message to CM 1xDALI module to query
its status and event message.
In order to receive all the event messages in time, Siemens recommends sending this
command every 100 milliseconds. If the CM 1xDALI does not receive this command
for 10 seconds, it stops the background detection1. When the CM 1xDALI receives
this command again, it starts an initialize process and the background detection.
The event message value of 16#FFFFFF indicates there is no event message re-
ceived.
