Purpose of the operating instructions
These operating instructions contain information based on the requirements for mechanical
engineering documentation. This information relates to the location, transport, storage,
mounting, use and maintenance.
These operating instructions are intended for:

SIMATIC HMI Unified Comfort Panels offer you all the freedom and options you need to
implement your innovative operating concepts.
In addition to significantly increased performance, the user benefits from the new possibilities
of the panels in conjunction with the SIMATIC WinCC Unified visualization software as well
as the functional expandability with apps via the built-in Industrial Edge functionality.
The industrial-grade multi-touch glass front of all devices from 7 to 22" offers convenient
operation with an impressive high-quality display.
The most important advantages at a glance:
●Maximum user-friendliness through better legibility as well as more brilliant colors and
high contrast of the display, combined with significantly higher ruggedness of the multi-
touch technology.
●Integrated functionality for all device sizes from 7 to 22".
●Increased hardware performance as well as higher system limits for significantly larger
applications based on a panel-based system than before. High level of IT security to
protect the system against hacker attacks through a proprietary operating system.
●Project-specific requirements can be implemented quickly and easily thanks to the
integrated Industrial Edge functionality for simple expansion of standard functionality
through apps.
●Visualization based on SIMATIC WinCC Unified, the new web-based visualization system

if a SIMATIC SD memory card ≥32 GB is inserted.
Controller
The system diagnostics of SIMATIC controllers can be read from the HMI
device, which means that no additional programming device is required.

1.6 The HMI device in the operating process
The HMI device is part a technical process. The following two phases are key to the way the
HMI device is integrated in the process:

Configuration
During the configuration phase, you create the user interfaces for operating and monitoring
of the technical process on a configuration PC with WinCC. Project design comprises:
●Creating project data
●Saving project data
●Testing project data
●Simulating project data
Transfer
After compiling the configuration, you download the project to the HMI device.
Process management
Process management is marked by two-way communication between HMI device and
controller.
You then use the HMI device to operate and monitor the process.

Description
SIMATIC Edge Via "SIMATIC Edge" you start the local edge management web page on
the HMI device.
Add-ons
Under "Add-ons" you can find apps that were not developed by Siemens. The following apps
are pre-installed license-free on the HMI device:

Doc Viewer With the "Doc Viewer" you can view and edit documents such as text or
Word files.
E-Mail Client With the "E-Mail Client" you can connect to your e-mail accounts, receive
e-mails, send e-mails and import mail files from other applications.
File Browser With the "File Browser" you can display and manage files on the HMI
device.
Media Player
You can use the "Media Player" to play audio and video files.
PDF Viewer
You can use the "PDF Viewer" to view PDF documents.
Printer Configuration You can display and manage pre-installed printers with the "Printer
Configuration".
Web Browser
The "Web Browser" provides you with access to the Internet.

In addition to the apps, software options are available for the HMI devices. Options usually
