1Introduction
1.1Purpose of the document
The purpose of this ocument is to escribe an specify in etail the GUI for the pro uct AyAlarm,
an AyTerminal application.
It is base on the version 1.0 of the AyAlarm application.
1.2Validity of the document
This ocument is vali for the AyTerminal project, a subproject of AySystem.
The ocument escribes how to use the AyAlarm application.

2.1Device description
The etaile evice escription you fin in chapter 3.1.
The major parts are:
•Display (OLED isplay):
Use for information screens an for input screens.
There are 2 isplay mo es: stan ar mo e an jumbo mo e (big-size characters)
See chapter 3.1.9.
•Navigation buttons:
4 touch sensor buttons aroun the isplay:
- arrow up: up button
- arrow own: own button
- right button: Enter button
- left button: Cancel button
The isplay also represents a button (center button)

2.2Getting started
•Insert SIM car an battery

2.4Activating a mode
•To start the configure mo e, select the Start option in the mo e menu.

2.6Turning off the AyTerminal
•If a mo e is activate , eactivate this mo e (enter the eactivation co e).
•In the AyAlarm menu, select the Turn off option an press the Enter button. See chapter

3 AyTerminal device
3.1Device description
AyTerminal is a evice that enables phone calls, temperature, noise an acceleration measuring,
soun ing alarms or notifying user via web pages, voice call an /or SMS. All this numbere features
are AyApplication specific.

3.1.1Hold-switch
This switch prevents uninten e button presses, see Figure 3-4. A button press is accepte only in
case the switch is in position “unlock”. If the hol -switch is in position “lock“ the only accepte
action is the long-press onto the central button, if this is enable by AyApplication e.g. to enable
emergency calls.
If the AyTerminal is off, the hol -switch on “lock” an long press is performe the AyTerminal will
NOT turn on.
3.1.2Status LED
This status LED is use to provi e fee back to the en -user about the current AyTerminal status.
The ual-color LED is able to show the following colors:
•black (off),
•green,
•re ,
•orange (mixture between re an green).
The LED is able to blink within the range from once per 25 secon s (0,04Hz) to 10 times per
secon (10Hz).

In case of two or more simultaneous events that can trigger the change of Status LED color there
have been establishe priority rules.
These rules are:
1. If the Status LED color is blinking ORANGE or RED then the Status LED color can not be
change to GREEN (permanent/ blinking slow/ blinking fast). In this case the status LED
ORANGE/ RED must be first stoppe an after that the status can be change to GREEN
(permanent/ blinking slow/ blinking fast) or the change request for GREEN can be
performe but the status will be change only when ORANGE/ RED will be turne off.
2. Permanent/ Fast/ Slow RED LED status can be set no matter the current LED status
3. If the status LED color is blinking RED then the Status LED color can not be change to
ORANGE (permanent/ slow/ fast). In this case the status LED RED must be first stoppe
an after that the status can be change to ORANGE (permanent/ blinking slow/ blinking
fast) or the change request for ORANGE can be performe but the status will be change
only when RED will be turne off.
4. In case of turning off one status LED the previous status LED is set back (e.g. Previous
status is slow GREEN an current status permanent RED. When the status RED is
remove then the slow GREEN is again establishe as status of the LED)
Example of applying the rules:
In case of triggering an alarm it is efine that the status LED becomes fast blinking ORANGE. In
case of SMS it is efine that the status LED is blinking GREEN. If SMS is sent meanwhile the
alarm is triggere then the change request for status LED GREEN is store but the status is
change only when ORANGE is turne off (rule number 1).
3.1.3Lumberg Connector
Using this 12 pin slim Lumberg connector is possible to:
•Connect a Siemens stan ar hea set an to use it for GSM voice calls.
•Connect the AyTerminal charger for charging the AyTerminal battery.
This slim Lumberg connector use for the eveloper AyTerminal version makes possible the
uploa an ebug of the evelope AyApplications via ata cable (see Figure 3-2).
3.1.4AySnapOn Connector
This connector is use to connect up to four AySnapOns.
3.1.5Navigation buttons
The navigation buttons provi e the input possibility for the AyTerminal user.
There are four touch sensor buttons aroun the isplay for the following navigation purposes:
•Arrow up – up button
•Arrow own – own button
•Back – left button, Cancel button
•OK (right or accept button)
A itionally, the isplay itself is a mechanical button (confirm/enter/application specific purpose).
For the central button the AyTerminal can istinguish between single click, ouble click, an long
button press.

3.1.5.1Navigation through the menu structure
In a menu layout the first menu item is selecte by efault. Another item can be selecte by
pressing up/ own button.
Depen ing on the selecte menu item pressing the right button will:
•Accept the selection
•Select/ Unselect/ Check/ Uncheck the item (if a ra io button or a check box is isplaye in
front of the item)
To go back to the previous menu level the left button has to be presse .
3.1.6Spea er
The speaker of the AyTerminal is use for GSM voice calls an for provi ing an acoustic fee back.
For the following use cases an acoustic fee back is provi e :
•On navigation button click
•On AyApplication specific triggering of a pre efine alarm tone
•On AyApplication specific triggering of pre efine acknowle gment tones
•On incoming voice calls with pre efine ring tones
3.1.6.1Acknowle gement tones
There are positive an negative acknowle gment tones: one beep in icates a positive
acknowle gment, two beeps a negative acknowle gment. The table below lists the
acknowle gment use cases:

3.1.6.2Ring tones
There are 7 available ring tones which can be use in AyApplications. With AyCare application
these ring tones can just be playe from Settings/ Au io/ Ring tones.
3.1.6.3Alarm tone
Alarm tone is an internal alarm which is use in AyCare for playing siren in case of alarm (if the
mo e is efine so).
3.1.7Microphone
The microphone is use for the GSM voice call an /or as noise sensor.
3.1.83D-Ego-motion sensor
The ego-motion sensor is use to etect the AyTerminal movement.
3.1.9Temperature sensor
The temperature sensor provi es the information about the AyTerminal environment temperature.
The temperature range is efine by the operating range of AyTerminal with a temperature-
accuracy of +/-1,5°C @ 30°C without charger connecte an OLED isplay off. In case of a
connecte charger (OLED isplay always on), the internal temperature of the AyTerminal will rise
ue to the charging process. The AyTerminal will counterbalance this internal heating but the
temperature sensor will have lower environment temperature accuracy ue to the battery charging.
3.1.10OLED display
The AyTerminal has a white OLED isplay with 128x96 pixel resolution which is also the active
isplay area use for the screen layouts. In stan ar mo e the use font is Tahoma 15x16
proportional an in jumbo mo e the font Tahoma 23x24, each font consisting of maximum 128
characters. These fonts allow English an German user interfaces. All characters that are not
supporte by the character set of the use font will be shown as ‘?’.
3.1.11Battery charging
The AyTerminal can be connecte to a charger when the evice is switche on or off. It takes 3
hours to charge the battery full.
3.1.11.1Connecting a charger & AyTerminal switche off
If the evice is switche off an a charger is connecte then the charging battery symbol will be
shown on the isplay. The AyTerminal can be turne on by pressing long the central button.

3.1.11.2Connecting a charger & AyTerminal switche on
If the evice is switche on an a charger is connecte , the charging battery symbol will be shown
while the status bar is shown. The AyTerminal will work normally like it oes without charger
connecte .

3.1.11.3Charger connecte , AyTerminal running, shutting own
If the changer is connecte while AyTerminal is switche on an user selects Turn Off in main
menu, shutting own proce ure is starte – see the chapter 5.9, an the AyTerminal pass in
charging state. A screen like in Figure 3-6 is shown. If after this screen is shown the charger is
remove then AyTerminal is turne off. The AyTerminal can be turne on again by pressing long
the central button.
3.1.11.4Connecting charger before shutting own AyTerminal
If after connecting the charger Turn Off item is selecte in main menu the AyTerminal is executing
a turning off proce ure (see the chapter 5.9). While AyTerminal is turning off an the charger is
connecte then AyTerminal will enter in charging state an a screen like in Figure 3-6 is shown.
NOTE: Do NOT connect charger while TURNING OFF the AyTerminal because the data that is being
saved might be corrupted!
4Installation and startup
4.1Installation
Remove the battery cover by pressing the Release button (see Figure 3-3). Sli e the SIM car into
its hol er. Make sure that the gol contacts of the SIM are facing own an the cut off corner is
correctly aligne . Insert the battery si e way into the AyTerminal an then press it ownwar s until
it clicks into position. Place the battery cover back.

4.2Startup
Press the central button of the evice for 2 secon s in or er to turn on AyTerminal. A correct
startup is in icate by the LED blinking green an a simple animation is shown on the isplay
Figure 4-8.

4.2.1Loading screen
In few secon s after LED is ON the AyTerminal loa ing screen will be isplaye , as presente in
Figure 4-9.

4.2.2Emergency call mode
During AyTerminal startup, if there is no SIM car inserte , or the inserte SIM car is not locke
to the AyTerminal, only the following menu will be available:

Choosing the emergency call item by pressing the accept button it is possible to initiate an
emergency call. The GSM mobile phone stan ar inclu es 112 as emergency number. In
countries where 112 is not the stan ar emergency phone number the emergency call is
re irecte to the local emergency phone number, if it exists.

4.2.3PIN/PUK input
If the SIM car was inserte correctly an the SIM PIN control is enable the following screen will
be shown. The selecte igit can be change by using the up/ own navigation buttons ( igit range

from 0 to 9). The PIN is requeste to have between 4 an 8 igits. Because of this constraint the
OK option is shown an can be selecte after the 4th igit was inserte .

If the entere PIN is incorrect then a message like in Figure 4-13 is isplaye for 3s.

If the PIN is entere false for three times then the PUK is require (see Figure 4-14). The PUK
number of igits is fixe to 8 igits. After entering the PUK the PIN will be set to “1234” an a
message is shown to the user. For changing the PIN please see chapter 5.8.7. If the PUK is
incorrect then a similar message like for wrong PIN is isplaye .

In case of canceling the PIN/PUK entry by pressing the OK button when the input line is empty, the
AyTerminal emergency call menu is isplaye .
4.2.4Boot screen
After entering correctly PIN/PUK the AyTerminal boot screen is isplaye , as presente in Figure
4-16.

If the AyTerminal is not registere to the AyServer then the efault nickname is isplaye . Default
nickname is “John Doe”.

5AyAlarm application
The AyAlarm AyApplication has six mo es (see chapter 5.2 for more etails). It can be efine
how to be notifie if an alarm is triggere :
•By sen ing an SMS to a efine phone number
•By establishing a voice call to a efine phone number
•By informing the AyServer via GPRS
•By playing an alarm soun using the AyTerminal lou speaker.
Not all the notification types are available for each mo e.
A mo e can be activate or eactivate . Each mo e has a list of configurable values regar ing
alarm notifiers an /or alarm triggers. These values/ settings are store in the non-volatile memory
when the AyTerminal is turne off normally. The AyTerminal is turne off normally if “Turn Off” item
is chosen in main menu.
These settings can be set locally via the AyTerminal menu or can be receive from AyServer,
synchronize via AyServer interface.
The mo es can have efine an activation time perio for which are activate (e.g.: For mo e
“Baggage Secure” the activation time is activate an set to start at 11:30 an en at 22:30). A
mo e is only activate if it’s starte before. Therefore can also be efine which one of the mo es
has to start-up automatically when the AyAlarm application starts up.
Overall the AyApplication, when an alarm is triggere the status LED is blinking orange/black with
frequency of 3 Hz until the mo e is eactivate or the alarm uration time has expire . An alarm
can be triggere only if a mo e is starte an active.

5.2Modes description
All mo es provi e a similar menu structure.
5.2.1Alarm cloc
This mo e provi es an alarm clock. A timer can be set on a aily basis. An alarm is triggere when
the efine time is reache .
For configurable values an notifiers refer to chapter 5.4.3.
5.2.2Baggage Secure
This mo e can be use for the protection of the baggage. The alarm is triggere on the AyTerminal
motion etection if the efault or the efine threshol value of the ego-motion sensor is reache /
excee e , which means that the alarm is triggere if the mo e is activate (starte an active) an
the baggage with the AyTerminal insi e is move . For configurable values an notifiers refer to the
chapter 5.4.3.
5.2.3Room Monitor
The Room Monitor mo e is use with a itional accessory esigne by Design Affairs. The
accessory is use to hang the AyTerminal on a oor han le.

The alarm is triggere on the movement of the oor or on noise etection. The noise an the
AyTerminal ego-motion threshol values can be efine . This mo e can be use to alarm when a
certain oor is opene . Also in this mo e the listen-In functionality is provi e . If the listen-in phone
number is efine it is allowe to call the AyTerminal from the efine number an to listen-in. If no
listen-in number is efine the listen-in feature can’t be use . For user configurable values an
notifiers refer to the chapter 5.4.3.
5.2.4Car Alarm
This mo e can be use in cars to trigger alarm when the efault or the efine ego-motion or
temperature threshol is reache . The Car Alarm mo e is use to protect a car against theft or for
alarming if the temperature in the car has reache a critical temperature (greater than or lower
than). E.g.: if was og is left in the car an alarm can be triggere when the temperature gets
greater than the og efine temperature. The trigger operator can also be change (possible
values: “greater than” or “lower than”). Only one temperature threshol can be efine an store
for this mo e. For configurable values an notifiers refer to the chapter 5.4.3.
5.2.5Temperature Watchdog
In this mo e an alarm is triggere when the efine or the efault temperature is reache or
excee e (“greater than or lower than). The trigger operator can also be change (possible values:
“greater than” or “lower than”). Only one temperature threshol can be efine an store for this
mo e. For configurable values an notifiers refer to the chapter 5.4.3.
5.2.6Voice Call
This mo e is use to establish a voice call to one efine phone number pressing the central
button for at least 2 secon s. By efault there is no phone number efine . A call can be
establishe only after the phone number to be ialle is efine . The voice call can be en e by
pressing long (more than 2s) on the central button.
