About this document
Purpose of this document
This manual is a technical guide to the MT8001 Management Terminal, and de-
scribes the installation, configuration, and commissioning procedures.
Scope
This document applies to the MT8001 Management Terminal MP4.20.
EN54 Configuration settings required by the EN54 Approvals appear in boxes labelled
like this one.
ULC
Configuration settings required by the ULC Approvals appear in boxes labelled
like this one.

and understood the related documents. In particular, section 1 in this manual,
Safety Regulations, p.7.

1 Safety regulations
This section describes the potential sources of danger, and the relevant safety
regulations applicable for the use of the Siemens Building Technologies products.
Please read the following work instructions as well as the previous section "About
this document" thoroughly before beginning any work.
Danger Potential to Individuals
MT8001 units are powered with low voltage DC. While there are no specific safety
regulations that apply to this device, modifications made to safety/security systems
in general may present a risk to the safety of the individual performing those modi-
fications, as well as to the equipment itself. As always, caution should be used
when dealing with any power supply unit. Qualified technical personnel that have
undergone specific training for this device are the only individuals that should per-
form installation of and modification to the MT8001.
1.1 Country-specific standards
Siemens Building Technologies products are developed and produced in compli-
ance with the relevant international and European safety standards. This document
provides warnings and recommendations specific to the MT8001. Any additional
country-specific or local safety standards and/or regulations that apply concerning
project planning, and installation and operation of the MT8001 must also be taken
into account.
1.2 Assembly, installation, commissioning and testing work
•Activate security-, fire- and third party systems or devices only in the presence
of the person responsible.
•Abide by the safety regulations of the connected sub-systems when working on
management stations. This especially applies when switching-off system com-
ponents.
•Inform people before the testing of alarm devices - consider the possibility of
panic reactions.
•Inform the alarm and fault receiving stations connected to the system before car-
rying out tests.
1.3 Modifications to the system design and the products
Modifications to a system or to individual products may cause faults or malfunc-
tioning.
Please request written approval from Siemens Building Products, FS-DMS, and
any relevant authorities concerning intended system modifications and system ex-
tensions.

2 Introduction
This section outlines the physical design of the system, and provides an overview
of its functions.
Overview
The MT8001 Management terminal was designed to provide a single, easy-to-use
point of access to the entire security network used in your facility. Whether this se-
curity network is limited to a single floor, or spans an entire building, the MT8001
allows the end-user to monitor and control any area or device within the system
from one place.
In the case of a security event, the MT8001 alerts the end-user to that event, fur-
nishes important information about that event, and provides guidance during the
handing or treatment process.
Terminal users can monitor or modify the state of a large area, a control unit, a
single device or even a single device property. During routine activities such as
maintenance or inspections, users can easily isolate and deactivate/reactivate
specific areas and devices.
The MT8001 records every action and event that occurs and allows users to re-
trieve the data they need.
The MT8001 can work as a single solution for smaller facilities, or part of a larger
network of management stations at larger facilities.

4 Installing the MT8001
This section comprises two parts:
•First, it lists the requirements for unit installation, followed by illustrations of how
to connect the MT8001 management terminal at the client’s site (4.1, 4.2, and
4.3).
•Second, it lists the requirements for the configuration software, followed by soft-
ware installation procedure (4.4 and 4.5).
4.1 Unit installation requirements
4.1.1 Installation location
The following points should be adhered to:
•The terminal should be situated in an area that provides direct access to fire bri-
gade personnel.
•When selecting the installation point for the MT8001, care should be taken to
avoid possible damaging environmental influences such as direct sunlight, vibra-
tion or dust.
•The MT8001 should never be installed close to radiators or washbasins, and
proximity to sources of electrical or mechanical interference should be avoided.
Care should also be taken to ensure adequate heat dissipation from the device.

4.1.2 Work place requirements
Before handling the MT8001, you should ensure that the work place is equipped
with a conductive mat suitable for handling equipment containing MOS-devices.
Before beginning to work with the terminal (or any of its components) you should
ensure that there is no potential difference between the housing of the MT8001
and the work place. Use the prescribed armband connected to the conductive mat
to ensure potential equality between yourself and the device.

4.2 Unit installation
4.2.1 Cabinet mounting
The MT8001 Management Terminal may be mounted directly in a 19“ cabinet, or in
a control desk provided by the customer. The drawings in Fig. 2, Fig. 3, and Fig. 4
show the details of the required cut-out plus the necessary mounting details.
Note: The panel should be fixed with 4 bolts M4 x 4 mm.

4.2.2 Wall and desk mounting (MH8051)
The desk mounting housing (S24230-C119-A2) fulfils the following customer re-
quirements:
•Control desk applications
•Wall-mounted applications (angled view)
To access the device:
1. Release the screws on the left and right of the frame-facing.
2. Raise the frame vertically and tilt forward.
3. Press the angle-supports lightly inwards and unhook the frame to remove the
frame from the base of the housing.
4. Release the 4 mounting bolts.
Installation procedure for wall or desk mounting:
1. Mount the tamper contact if required (S24230-A135-A1).
2. Screw the base of the housing to the wall or onto the control desk.
3. Install the MT8001 in the frame, taking note of the required text orientation.
4. Re-mount the frame in the housing.
5. Make all necessary external connections.
6. Return frame back to the vertical and lower onto the housing base, and tighten
the screws on the left and right of the frame (fix with lacquer if required).

4.2.3 Standard H28 housing (ME8050/KS)
When replacing an existing system, such as an MA7003, the standard H28 hous-
ing may be used. To rationalise installation work, this housing is equipped with a
central terminal block, from which you can make all the standard external connec-
tions. The internal wiring of the MT8001 connectors to this terminal block is shown
in Appendix B.

4.2.4 Rack mounting option (MH8053)
The MT8001 can be mounted inside a 19” cabinet using the rack mounting option
(MH8053).

4.3.2 Interface Descriptions
4.3.2.1 RS232 and TTY interfaces
The MT8001 is equipped with six serial interfaces via 9-pin Sub-D connectors.
The upper 4 of these connectors are RS232 interfaces:
COM 1 = Connector X30 Used for configuration download, using the special
ActiveSync cable (available as part of Service Kit).
COM 2 = Connector X31 Reserved for internal purposes.
COM 3 = Connector X32 Used for connection to a serial logging printer or
optionally for communication to control units (maxi-
mum distance = 30 m).
COM 4 = Connector X33 Used for communication to control units via
CK1142/43, MK7022 or NK8223 (maximum distance
= 30 m).
No HW-adjustments are required for COM 1 to COM 4. Baud-rates, parity bit set-
tings, and so on are defined via the Composer configuration tool, and are
downloaded to the MT8001 along with the configuration data.
The lower 2 connectors are not used (TTY interfaces).
In cases where interconnections are made between separate buildings, protective
measures should be taken to prevent lightening damage.
4.3.2.2 System Diagnostic LED
The Diagnostic LED is located on the rear side of the terminal unit (see also Fig. 11
and Fig. 13). This LED:
•Blinks during the booting process.
•Is OFF during normal operation.
•Is ON when the system fault is detected during program run (watchdog).
4.3.2.3 LON connector
Unlike earlier MT8001 releases, direct LON connectivity is not available in MP4.15
and later. The communication with CS6 Guarto is only possible via NK822x.
