System Foundation
Switch Configuration Modes
Signamax switches provide users with three typical configuration modes:
•Configuring by using the command shell via console interface
•Configuring via telnet remote logging into a switch
•Configuring a switch via the SNM network management system
The last configuration mode provides users with Chinese/English interface to monitor network
status and collect system statistical information.
The manual mainly describes how to configure a switch via the console interface. The method
for configuring a switch via Telnet remote login is similar with it. For the details of configuring
a switch via the SNM network management system, please refer to the specification of the
network system.
Command Operation Modes
One Signamax switch provides a specified command-dealing subsystem for managing and
executing the system commands, it is called shell. Main functions are as follows:
•Register the system commands
•User edits the system configuration commands
•Analyze the syntax of commands input by users (via Console interface or Telnet
connection)
•Execute the system commands

When a user configures a switch via the command shell, the system provides various
operation modes for executing commands. Each command mode supports the specialized
configuration commands. This protects system hierarchically and from unauthorized access.
The shell subsystem provides the following modes for running configuration commands.
Different modes correspond to different system prompts which inform users about the present
system mode they are in.
The possible modes are as follows:
•The common user mode (user EXEC)
•The privileged user mode (privileged EXEC)
•The global configuration mode (global configuration)
•The interface configuration mode (interface configuration)
•The route configuration mode (switch configuration)
•The file system mode (file system configuration)
•The access list configuration mode (access list configuration)
•The voice-port configuration mode (voice-port configuration)
•The dial-peer configuration mode (dial-peer configuration)
•The encryption transform configuration mode (crypto transform-set configuration)
•The encryption mapping configuration mode (crypto map configuration)
•The IKE policy configuration mode (isakmp configuration)
•The pub key chain configuration mode (pubkey-chain configuration)
•The ub key configuration mode (pubkey-key configuration)
•The DHC configuration mode (dhcp configuration)
